This is a management position for 9 employees that staffs one private fire station and has the opportunity to build and direct a motivated staff of firefighters. The Fire Chief will oversee three duty Captains and their projects, providing guidance and leadership for the organization. The Fire Chief will oversee daily schedules with regard to standard prevention activities, training, and special events. Skywalker Holdings has several locations. The Fire Brigade operates at The Skywalker Ranch in Marin County, Nicasio, CA. Skywalker is a private organization that operates 5,000 acres of wildland urban interface land with various types of infrastructure within it. At the Presidio (San Francisco, CA) there are numerous buildings that are also included in the prevention responsibilities. The Ranch operates numerous buildings, smaller organization and other operations within the that support the greater vision of Skywalker Properties Ltd.</p><p></p><p><b><br>
Schedule:</b></p><p>
This position will work a semi-flexible 40hr work week as to oversee and manage 3 shifts who are on a 48/96 work schedule. Flexibility is determined by the President and subject to department need as well attending any critical meetings with leadership teams. Remote work hours may be included in the flexibility.</p><p>
Although rare, there are times when the Chief might have to back-fill staffing and/or provide staffing on apparatus due to non-fillable vacancies or training needs.</p><p><b>

This is a single incumbent, executive management classification. The Fire Chief&rsquo;s duties are administrative and managerial in nature, and the incumbent performs work that is very complex, with broad authority for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Fire Department as well as responsibility for Department&rsquo;s strategic planning and goal setting. The incumbent has extensive contact with public officials, State/Federal/local agencies, other public and private organizations and the public. The incumbent exercises a high level of independent authority, working from broad policies to achieve objectives critical to the Department&rsquo;s mission. The classification of Fire Chief is distinguished from the classification of Deputy Chief - Fire by its level and degree of responsibility for the broad oversight of all Department functions.

<b>About Chico Fire Department:</b>
<br>
The Department serves the community from 4 fire stations spread throughout the community, staffed by 3 shifts totaling 79 firefighters and 1 battalion chief per day. All response personnel are minimally trained as firefighters and emergency medical technicians (EMTs). Furthermore, the Department is supported by 1 Fire Marshal, 3 prevention personnel and 3 professional administrative staff civilian positions and a FY2025-26 operating budget of $16.5 million.<br>

The Department maintains strong automatic- and mutual-aid partnerships to the surrounding unincorporated areas through the Chico Urban Area Fire and Rescue Agreement. In 2025, the Department responded to 16,430 calls for service, an increase of 2,273 calls since 2023.<br>

In addition to four fire stations, the Fire Chief is responsible for overseeing a Fire Training Center and over 30 pieces of modern emergency apparatus with a 33-square mile service area. The Department also fields specialized teams for technical rescues, drowning accidents, hazardous materials response, SCBA repair and fire origin &amp; cause investigations.

The Fire Chief directs, manages, and oversees all activities of the Fire Department in order to ensure 24-hour emergency service to the citizens of Pocatello and Bannock County. As an Appointed Position under general direction from the Mayor and City Council, work is performed within policies and administrative regulations with wide latitude for the exercise of independent judgment. Must be EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) or Paramedic Certified if applicable;</li><li>
Must possess ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, and IS 700, 800;</li><li>
HazMat Operations Certification;</li><li>
Bachelor&rsquo;s Degree in Fire Service Administration, Public Administration, or related field required.</li><li>
Master&rsquo;s Degree preferred.
</li><li>Graduate of Executive Fire Office Program or FSEDI Program preferred.</li><li>
Must maintain a current and valid driver&rsquo;s license.</li><li><b>

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING ENVIRONMENT</b></p><ul><li><p>
The incumbent works primarily in an office environment where exposure to hazards is minimal, however, there is a possibility for exposure to unpredictable hazards and extremes of weather when serving as incident commander at a major emergency.</p></li><li>
Work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception, night vision, and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound</li><li><p>
While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, use hands to handle materials, manipulate tools, keyboard and type, operate a motor vehicle, reach with hands and arms, and operate job-related equipment.</p></li><li><p>
Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with the public is required. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.</p></li><li><p>
The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, in wet and humid conditions, areas of dust, odors, mist and gases or other airborne matter. Work includes protected exposure to infectious bacteria, bodily fluids and chemicals. May occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.</p></li><li>
Considerable exposure to stressful situations as a result of human behavior while responding to emergency and non-emergency situations.
</li><li>Unconventional working hours. During prolonged emergency operations, may be required to work without sleep for extended periods. May be required to respond to fire stations or scenes during evolving or prolonged incidents outside of scheduled shifts.</li></ul><p><b>
