THE ALAMEDA COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT (ACFD) provides all-risk emergency services to the unincorporated areas of Alameda County (excluding Fairview), the cities of San Leandro, Dublin, Newark, Union City and Emeryville, the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. With 27 fire stations and 33 companies serving a population of 394,000, the ACFD serves densely populated urban areas, waterways, industrialized centers, extensive urban interface, agricultural and wildland regions. Over 400 personnel and 100 Reserve Firefighters provide a wide variety of services to an ever expanding, dynamic and diverse community of roughly 508 square miles. These services include:</p>

</li></ul><div></div><p>The Alameda County Fire Department (ACFD) was formed on July 1, 1993, as a dependent special district with the Alameda County Board of Supervisors as its governing body. This consolidation brought together into a single jurisdiction the Castro Valley Fire Department, Eden Consolidated Fire Protection District and County Fire Patrol. Subsequently, the following communities have contracted with the ACFD:</p>

The dispatch center provides dispatch and regional communication center services for the ACFD, the Alameda County Emergency Medical Services Agency, Camp Parks Combat Support Training Center, and the cities of Alameda, Fremont, Livermore and Pleasanton. ACRECC is also the Dispatch/System Status Management Center for Falck ambulance service.</p>

The department has a First Responder program and contracts with the City of De Pere Fire Rescue and County Rescue for ambulance response and transport. The response area for the town covers roughly 17.22 square miles and includes residential, commercial, and rural areas. The Town of Ledgeview Fire Department participates in MABAS Division 112, which covers all of Brown County, Wisconsin, allowing fire departments to use pre-determined resource requests with efficient dispatching to respond to emergency and planned events within the county and beyond.</p><p><b>Role Responsibilities</b></p><p>The Fire Chief provides leadership and direction for the Town of Ledgeview&rsquo;s Fire Department, overseeing all fire service operations, personnel, budgeting, training, and compliance with municipal and state codes. Class Characteristics

This is a single incumbent, executive management classification. The Fire Chief&rsquo;s duties are administrative and managerial in nature, and the incumbent performs work that is very complex, with broad authority for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Fire Department as well as responsibility for Department&rsquo;s strategic planning and goal setting. The incumbent has extensive contact with public officials, State/Federal/local agencies, other public and private organizations and the public. The incumbent exercises a high level of independent authority, working from broad policies to achieve objectives critical to the Department&rsquo;s mission. The classification of Fire Chief is distinguished from the classification of Deputy Chief - Fire by its level and degree of responsibility for the broad oversight of all Department functions.

<b>About Chico Fire Department:</b>
<br>
The Department serves the community from 4 fire stations spread throughout the community, staffed by 3 shifts totaling 19 firefighters and 1 battalion chief per day. All response personnel are minimally trained as firefighters and emergency medical technicians (EMTs). Furthermore, the Department is supported by 1 Fire Marshal, 3 prevention personnel and 3 professional administrative staff civilian positions and a FY2025-26 operating budget of $16.5 million.

The Department maintains strong automatic- and mutual-aid partnerships to the surrounding unincorporated areas through the Chico Urban Area Fire and Rescue Agreement. In 2025, the Department responded to 16,430 calls for service, an increase of 2,273 calls since 2023.

In addition to four fire stations, the Fire Chief is responsible for overseeing a Fire Training Center and over 30 pieces of modern emergency apparatus with a 33-square mile service area. The Department also fields specialized teams for technical rescues, drowning accidents, hazardous materials response, SCBA repair and fire origin &amp; cause investigations.
