<b>Education and Experience:</b><br>

Wildland Firefighter - Engine Boss

<p>The position of Firefighter/Operator comprises entrance level position in the fire suppression division of our department operations. Employees of this class receive training in and perform firefighting and fire suppression tasks such as controlling and extinguishing fires, performing rescue work, and driving, operating, and maintaining fire department vehicles.</p><p><b>EXAMPLES OF WORK:</b></p><p>Trains for, performs, and maintains proficiency in firefighting and rescue tasks such as connecting, carrying, and operating hose lines; directing fire streams; forcible entry; ventilation; and using ladders, lines, and other equipment to aid in fighting fires or removing fire and accident victims to safety. Administers first aid and emergency care to victims of fires, accidents, drowning, poisoning, and drug overdose.</p><p>Drives fire apparatus to and from fire. Communicates with dispatcher and fire vehicles using two-way radio. Positions apparatus and connects to supply source. Operates pumper to supply adequate pressure to the nozzle. Calculates required water flow, friction loss, and discharge pressures necessary for fire suppression.</p><p>Performs tasks necessary for the proper maintenance of the station and grounds such as cleaning floors and windows, emptying trash cans, changing bed linens, and mowing grass. Assist in preparing meals for firefighters at the station and cleans kitchen area. Provides for the security of the station by locking station doors and securing valuable items. </div>Responsibilities:
<ul><li>Drives the fire engine and transports firefighting personnel to an emergency site; locates hydrants, operates pumps, and evaluates water system and supply.</li><li>
Responds to fire emergencies; takes incident command as needed; operates various firefighting, control, and rescue equipment; performs fire ground operations; responds to and participates in emergency situations involving toxic/hazardous materials.</li><li>

Supervises multiple resources while on assignment including Chumash Fire personnel and others.

</li><li>Develops and implements protocols to keep training and fire records up to date and organized for reporting to the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA).</li><li>
Administers and inspects the cleaning and services of firefighting equipment and apparatuses; administers and maintains clean and orderly conditions in and about the fire station; administers and implements tests and maintenance of the hydrant systems.</li><li>
Administers, coordinates, delegates, and participates in training activities, practice drills, and physical fitness programs.</li><li>
Administers and participates in inspections of public and commercial buildings for fire prevention, target hazard identification and review, and fire code enforcement.</li><li>
Administers and assists with programs such as weed abatement, arson investigation, public information programs, staff development, pre-fire planning, and maintaining pertinent maps; delegates, coordinates, and assists in department operations by assigning tasks to personnel.</li><li>
Participates in public education programs; makes presentations to school children, service departments, and public gatherings on fire and burn prevention; represents the department at public functions to promote fire and burn prevention by the general public.</li><li>
Administers department participation in community events; represents the department in a respectful and professional manner.</li><li>
Trains, develops, empowers, coaches, counsels, conducts performance reviews, resolves problems, provides open communication vehicles, and recommends disciplinary action to senior management as appropriate.</li><li>
