This position requires a considerable amount of physical strength and stamina. Firefighters must also have the ability to walk long distances and work long periods without rest. Employees must demonstrate their ability to perform these essential functions during their annual physical examinations.
The fire fighter must be able to read and understand policies, procedures, and technical publications of the FAA, Norfolk Airport Authority, Airport Fire Department, and other various training publications. Must have the ability to write reports in a clear and concise manner. Must have the ability to understand and carry out verbal orders under both normal and stressful conditions. Must have the ability to interpret the airport runway, taxiway, and lighting system. Must be able to think and speak clearly and make decisions under stress. Fire fighters must have the basic mathematical skills required for pump operations in determining friction losses, gallons per minute flows, and nozzle pressures. Must be able to disseminate information in a clear, concise manner under adverse conditions.
WORKING CONDITIONS/HAZARDS: The fire fighter must be able to work under adverse conditions associated with the intense heat and smoke encountered during firefighting. Must be able to function in a calm and professional manner during periods of intense stress. The fire fighter must be able to work from heights, in confined spaces, high noise areas, around jet exhaust fumes, and in darkness. Must have the ability to work in all adverse environmental conditions including heat, cold, rain, snow, etc. Under normal station conditions, the firefighter shall work in a two-story fire station requiring frequent climbing of stairs. The fire fighter shall also work in vehicle maintenance areas containing some vehicle exhaust fumes. Normal station conditions are comfortable, heated, and air-conditioned. Fire fighters work under conditions requiring the ability to clean station and apparatus, prepare meals, and make beds. Fire fighters work with various cleaning chemicals, motor oils, anti-freeze, AFFF, purple-K dry chemical, and are subject to exposure to other various chemicals and fuels under both normal and emergency conditions.

Essential and related duties may require maintaining good physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, walking, running, climbing ladders, bending, stooping, crouching and kneeling for prolonged periods of time; as well as the ability to lift, drag, hoist and carry different types of fire equipment and other objects. Requires stamina and physical endurance needed to sustain prolonged, rigorous physical activity during emergency situations.  Job Description
 
 
 
 The Firefighter performs firefighting and fire-prevention activities to protect life and property. Assists other personnel in controlling fire scenes or performing other specialized activities as assigned. Ensure the station, apparatus, and equipment are always ready. Trains daily while on duty to ensure skills are superior to the expectations of our citizens. Assist other Florence County Fire Rescue bureaus as needed to enhance collaboration and improve overall emergency response effectiveness. Promotes a professional and honorable appearance in our community.
 
 
 
 Essential Functions
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Responds to fire alarms, emergency medical calls, accidents, and hazardous situations.
 </li>
 <li>
 Suppress and extinguish fires using appropriate techniques and equipment.
 </li>
 <li>
 Perform search-and-rescue operations in dangerous, time-sensitive environments.
 </li>
 <li>
 Provide emergency medical care, including CPR, first aid, and basic life support.
 </li>
 <li>
 Operate around fire apparatus, including engines, ladder trucks, and other support vehicles.
 </li>
 <li>
 Inspect buildings and enforce fire safety codes and regulations.
 </li>
 <li>
 Clean and maintain firefighting equipment and ensure operational readiness.
 </li>
 <li>
 Complete thorough and accurate incident reports.
 </li>
 <li>
 Participate in ongoing training, drills, and community outreach programs.
 </li>
 <li>
 Maintains physical fitness that ensures success with job demands, annual stress test, and annual agility test.
 
 
 </li>

 Performs all other related duties as required by the Fire Chief.

 Other manual labor activities, such as hydrant maintenance, hose testing, yard maintenance, sweeping, and mopping, will be required.

 Qualifications: Education and Experience

 High School Diploma or GED
 </li>

 Must be at least 18 years of age.
 </li>

 Must have a valid SC Driver&rsquo;s License w/ good driving record.

JOB INFORMATION

Village of Rantoul is now accepting applications for Firefighters. Our Firefighters will respond to fire alarms fires and other emergency calls.
QUALIFICATIONS
<ul><li>Must be at least 21 years of age</li>
<li>Have at least a high school diploma or equivalent</li>
<li>Willing to get your Firefighter Operations Basic certification from the State Fire Marshall within three years of employment</li>
<li>Willing to get your National Incident Management System (NIMS) certification from the Federal Emergency Management Association in ICS 100 and ICS 200 within three years of employment</li>
<li>Must live within the corporate city limits of the Village of Rantoul</li>
<li>Written skills test; oral interview and pre-employment background check</li>
<li>Valid State of Illinois driver&rsquo;s license</li>
</ul>
REQUIREMENTS
<ul><li>Responds to fire; medical; or other emergencies as required</li>
<li>Inspects equipment and supplies in order to ensure that all emergencies can be handled</li>
<li>Restock supplies as needed</li>
<li>Helps maintain fire truck; ensuring that the fire trucks are clean and pristine condition at all times</li>
<li>Report any repair that is needed for vehicles and equipment to Fire Chief</li>
<li>Attend meetings</li>
<li>Assist with fire prevention and education at a variety of events</li>
<li>Ventilates burning buildings which might include breaking windows or doors as needed</li>
<li>Complete and pass all trainings that are required for this position in a timely manor</li>
<li>Extricates victims</li>
<li>Assist in keeping the fire house clean at all times</li>
<li>Be able to operate emergency vehicles and equipment</li>
<li>Conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times</li>
<li>Complete all necessary paperwork/reports/check list after each response</li>
<li>Performs all duties related to fire rescue; including connection and carrying fire hoses; carrying and setting up ladders; directing water and chemicals on burning items</li>
