<p></p><div><p>Either an associate's degree, 24 semester hours or 36 quarter hours of post-secondary education, or certification from an accredited vocational technical school in: forestry, natural resources, emergency management, and/or a related field</p><p>

Two years of journey-level experience in the technical aspects of forest management and practices such as fire prevention, fire suppression, timber sales, reforestation, or inventory.</p><p><b>
Substitution:</b></p>
Certification within the preceding three (3) years by the candidate's employing agency as Qualified for Division/Group Supervisor (DIVS) or Incident Commander Type 3 (ICT3) in the National Incident Management System: Wildland Fire Qualification System Guide (link to PMS 310-1 (Download PDF reader)) will substitute for the required education.<p><b>

<div><p>Coos Forest Protective Association (CFPA) Bridge Unit is currently accepting applications for a Seasonal (10-month) Forest Officer position, at their Bridge (Myrtle Point) office.</p><p>
Forest Officer duties include, but are not limited to:</p><p>
Enforcement of Oregon Forest Laws and administering local fire prevention programs by utilizing strong communication and administrative skills in order to maintain contact with forest operators, landowners and the public involving education and interpretation of forest laws and fire programs. Maintaining positive working relationships with local fire departments and cooperators, as well as having the ability to effectively work as a member of or leader in a team environment is vital. Training and leading crews in wildland fire suppression, pre-suppression, fire prevention and safety activities will be required. Assignment to oversee and contribute to the performance of unit maintenance, repair and minor construction projects of fire equipment, buildings, grounds, and landscaping through the unit may be required. This position also requires the completion of various reports and documents including, but not limited to fire reports, preliminary fire investigations, and participation in Industrial Fire Inspection and Smoke Management Programs.</p><p>
This position requires long hours of arduous physical activity in all types of terrain and weather conditions with exposure to various hazards including, but not limited to poison oak, bees, smoke, snakes, steep terrain, noise, heat, dust, burning and/or falling materials and other hazards. Successfully passing and maintaining the physical fitness level necessary (Arduous) is required and will be tested on a yearly basis. Various shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and long hours with short notice is required. Assignments to emergency incidents may require being away from the assigned duty station for extended periods of time with occasional travel throughout the state of Oregon and other states. A current/valid Oregon Driver&rsquo;s License with a Class &ldquo;C&rdquo; or higher, and the ability to obtain a Class &ldquo;B&rdquo; Commercial Driver&rsquo;s License with tanker and air brake endorsements is preferred, as the operation of 4-wheel drive pickups and larger vehicles in various road conditions and during fire situations is required. Payment must be made by <b>cashier&rsquo;s check</b> or <b>money order</b> only. Candidates must also present a valid driver&rsquo;s license at the time of the examination.</p><p>Failure to attend the written examination at the scheduled date and time will result in removal from further consideration in the hiring process. Candidates who do not meet the minimum qualifications will not advance.</p><p><b>Examination Preference Points</b></p><p>Candidates who achieve a passing score on the written examination may be eligible for additional preference points, which will be applied to their final score. Documentation verifying eligibility must be submitted.</p><p>Preference points are awarded as follows:</p><ul><li>Veteran Status: 20%</li><li>Paramedic Certification: 5%</li><li>Firefighter II Certification: 2%</li><li>Resident of Erie County: 1%</li><li>Current part-time Millcreek firefighter in good standing: 0.5% for every six months of continuous service determined by payroll start date (up to a maximum of 5%)</li></ul><p>All preference points will be applied to a candidate&rsquo;s passing written examination score to determine final ranking on the eligibility list.</p><p><b>Physical Agility Test</b></p><p>A selection of qualified individuals that successfully complete the written examination will be invited to a Physical Agility test being held on <b>Saturday, June 27, 2026</b>. Further details, including location and specific testing time slot, will be included with your invitation.</p><p>A practice physical agility test will be offered on <b>Saturday, June 20, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. at West Ridge South Station,</b> for candidates interested in familiarizing themselves with the assessment.</p><p>A full description of the test requirements is included in this packet.</p><p><b>In-Person Interviews</b></p><p>A limited number of top candidates will be invited to an in-person interview.
