Based on this review, the committee will establish a ranked order-of-promotion list and forward the rankings, along with comments and observations, to the Fire Chief.

</b></p><p></p><p>The Fire Chief will promote candidates in the recommended ranked order while the eligibility list remains active, unless unusual circumstances exist, such as documented disciplinary actions or prior performance evaluations indicating &ldquo;below standard&rdquo; or &ldquo;needs improvement.&rdquo;
</p><p></p><p>If deviations from the ranked order occur, the Fire Chief will consider the severity of the circumstances and make a determination at their discretion. Affected candidates will be notified of the specific reasons for non-promotion.

<p>
Performs complex professional and administrative work directing the activities of the Firefighters/EMTs and volunteer officers, including public safety, fire prevention, rescue, emergency medical response, and supervisory responsibilities in the fire station on an assigned shift. Much of the work is performed under emergency conditions and frequently involves considerable personal hazards. Supervision is exercised over company-level personnel. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Fire Battalion Chief.</p>

An employee in this class supervises and participates in operations at the fire station on an assigned shift and may supervise staff at both stations on an assigned shift. The employee leads the shift in protecting life and property and providing fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous materials response/mitigation, technical rescue, and related activities.
