<div><p><b>BRIEF DESCRIPTION:</b><br>
The Uncertified Firefighter/EMT shall be a sworn firefighting position. Upon acceptance of this position the selected applicant shall pass an NFPA 1583 physical and will be required to pass this physical annually along with passing the required annual physical assessments. The uncertified firefighter will have to complete a rigorous fire academy within the permitted time given by the Fire Chief or designee. Once he/she has completed the fire academy and obtained their Hazardous Materials Operations, Firefighter 1 and 2, NWCG S-130/190/L-180 certifications, all required NIMS certifications, driver operator, basic EMS for firefighters and an approved CPR course they will be assigned to a shift. While on shift they will be expected to continue training, respond to emergencies, complete apparatus and facility checks, keep equipment stocked and maintained, and all other duties assigned by the Fire Chief or designee. They will then begin their Emergency Medical Technician Basic training and upon course completion he/she will be given a maximum of 3 opportunities to pass the National Registry test. Once they complete all above items they will be recognized as a certified firefighter. This position is 48 hours on duty/96 hours on duty scheduled position, however during training this position may work 40-hours a week until completion of the fire academy. This position may be subject to the 7K Fire Exemption under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Employee may be required to work irregular hours, attend job related meetings both in and out of town, and perform all other duties as assigned.</p>

No previous experience is required, HOWEVER the individual MUST reside within Grandville city limits.</p><p>If selected, the City would send the individual through a multi-departmental fire academy to take place in the Fall of 2026. This academy meets multiple times per week with occasional Saturdays. Individuals will be paid $15.00 per hour while in academy. Applicants who are already certified with Michigan Firefighter I &amp; II and/or EMT-B certified may not need to attend the academy, depending on their previous training. New hires would be paid $17.50 per hour if they have either firefighter OR EMT certifications. Those with both firefighter AND EMT certifications would be paid $20.00 per hour. Once fully certified and passed the probationary phase, all paid on call hires would be paid $21.21 per hour when responding to calls for service.</p><p>Under the supervision of a ranking officer the individual participates in departmental activities to protect lives and property within the City in an on-call status.
