ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS</b></h3><p>
Performs skilled work in responding to all types of emergency incidents. Utilizes firefighting equipment to perform fire suppression tasks, including fire extinguishment, salvage and overhaul, building ventilation, and search and rescue operations. Assists in the control and abatement of chemicals at hazardous material incidents. Administers basic or advanced life support to patients, including implementing victim extrication procedures, checking and recording vital signs, stabilizing injured patients and performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures. Performs facility cleaning and sanitation duties, maintains fire equipment and ensures apparatus readiness. Participates in training drills and educational classes. Participates in commercial and multifamily residential pre-fire planning; assists with public education, community relations programs and other community events and services. Performs hydrant maintenance, flow testing and mapping. Assists in preparing required reports to document specific details of fire and emergency response calls. <div><p>Skilled work involving the response to emergency situations in the City of New Orleans for the protection of life and property, reducing the incidence of fire and the loss of life to civilians and fire personnel.  Functions of the position are: preventing, responding to and mitigating emergencies i.e. extinguishing fires, rendering medical care, conducting inspections, installing smoke alarms, presenting fire safety and public education programs, working in shelters during emergencies, emergency management and public safety duties and related work as required.<br>

 Work involves the performance of tasks requiring considerable physical exertion, often under emergency and hazardous conditions. Employee must execute orders from commanding officers in a prompt, efficient manner according to appropriate methods and techniques. <br>Under the general direction and supervision of the Nikiski Fire Service Area (NFSA) Fire Chief or their designee, and physician sponsor when appropriate, the Firefighter I / EMT I - Paramedic performs emergency procedures in order to preserve and maintain life and property. Firefighters are also responsible for maintaining facilities, apparatus and equipment.Residency: The Firefighter must reside within the boundaries set forth by the Nikiski Fire Service Area Chief.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
<br><b>Education:</b> High School Diploma or GEDCertifications and Licensing: IFSAC or State of Alaska Firefighter I or obtain within 12-months of hire, shall obtain Firefighter II certification within 24 months of hire.Required level of EMS certification as noted on posting. This minimum level must be maintained as a condition of employment.A valid, unrestricted Alaska driver’s license EMT I or EMT IIState of Alaska – EMT I or IIShall obtain State of Alaska AEMT and be a NFSA Stand-Alone AEMT within 18 months of hire. Training will be provided by the department. EMT IIIState of Alaska – EMT III or AEMT Shall be a Stand-Alone AEMT within 12-month probationary period. PARAMEDICState of Alaska – Paramedic orNational Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians – Paramedic (NRP) and obtain State of Alaska -Paramedic and be a Stand-Alone Paramedic within 12-month probationary period. *Shall Begin NFD Paramedic 2 training and testing within 24 months.
