</b><p>The Nutrition Assistant (NA) displays and practice a work-style that reflects the mission, vision and values of the department and hospital. Projects an image of professionalism in communication, appearance and conduct. </p><p>The Nutrition Assistant (NA) is responsible for delivering nutrition service to patients. This involves obtaining meal selections utilizing a computerized tablet in the electronic diet office system; obtaining and documenting food preferences (likes, dislikes, allergies, and cultural or special dietary needs); utilizing safe food handling practices; prepares foods to meet the dietary needs of the patient; actively participates on trayline for accurate tray set-up; deliver and retrieve trays according to established patient safety guidelines.
</p><p>The NA works under the direction of the Nutrition Assistant Lead, the Patient Care Supervisors and the Patient Services Operations Manager. The NA also collaborates and takes direction from the clinical nutrition staff as well as working closely with nursing to ensure patient satisfaction. Contributes to positive customer relations especially with regard to customer service by assuring high quality service and that sanitation standards are met.

Nature &amp; Scope:</b></h2><p>
The Nutrition Services Assistant I works independently following standardized routines under the direction of the Nutrition Services Lead. The nature of the work requires strict adherence to policies, procedures, and regulations. The incumbent interfaces and problem-solves with students, school administrative staff, nutrition services colleagues, teachers, and non-licensed school staff. Because this job involves frequent interaction with students and parents, the position requires a high level of professional decorum, calm, and the ability to act as a role model to young people. The incumbent does not have supervisory responsibilities but may provide guidance and assistance to regular, temporary, or substitute employees, as required.</p><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Essential Job Functions:</b></h2><ul><li>

Prepares and serves appropriate quantities of food in a timely manner, assuring proper quality and quantity of food prepared.</li><li>

Assures that serving lines are properly stocked with adequate food, beverages, and supplies.</li><li>
Serves food from a steam table or cold counter.</li><li>
Follows Nutrition Services Department Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) standard operating procedures (SOPs) for food safety and sanitation in the receiving and storage of supplies; in food preparation; service of food; in storage, disposal, or donation of leftovers; in cleaning and maintaining equipment and work areas.</li><li>
Counts money for the till and prepares moneyboxes or cash registers with the appropriate amount and denominations of change.</li><li>
Performs cashier functions using NS software: enters computerized meal accounting and sales data, verifies checks collected, closes the till and delays count. Brings the cash drawer to Lead for reconciliation.</li><li>
Completes and maintains daily and weekly records of meals and beverages served and foods leftover. Maintains required records for meal production accounting.</li><li>
Washes and cleans cafeteria tables.</li><li>
Washes and stores equipment, pots, pans, trays, and other food service items; lifts moderately heavy objects.</li><li>
Provides inventory and product usage information to Lead for ordering and record-keeping purposes as required. Assists Lead in counting supplies for monthly physical inventory.</li><li>
Assists other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.</li><li>
Assists with training of new employees, parent volunteers, and student helpers.</li><li>
Monitors equipment operation and reports concerns and needs as required.</li><li>
Participates in required hours of annual continuing education, per federal law.</li><li>
Maintains effective working relationships with other members of the Department as well as other school personnel and community members, including those from diverse cultures or backgrounds or those who speak limited or no English.</li><li>

Working Conditions:</b></h2><p>
The Nutrition Services Assistant I works primarily in an industrial school kitchen and also works in the cafeteria/lunchroom. The work environment is often loud and includes exposure to hot surfaces, steam heat, cold temperatures in cooler/freezer areas, cleaning solvents, and vibration with some equipment. Other potential exposures and hazards include but are not limited to: chemicals, fumes, communicable diseases, sharp objects, power/hand-operated equipment and machinery, pinch points, odors, and slippery surfaces.</p><p>
The Nutrition Services Assistant I will constantly stand or walk (100% of the time) while performing kitchen food preparation duties on tile/concrete surfaces up to 2-3 miles per day. The job involves moderate to fast-paced walking to meet daily timelines.</p><p>
The Nutrition Services Assistant I must:</p><ul><li>
Lifting/Carrying. Constantly lift up to 10 lbs.; frequently lift up to 20 lbs.; and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.; and must carry loads up to 15 feet.</li><li>

The Agricultural Institute of Marin (AIM) is an educational 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in San Rafael, California. AIM&rsquo;s mission is to educate, inspire, and connect communities, responsible farmers and producers as part of a healthy, Earth-friendly, equitable local and regional food system. We envision a responsible food and farming system that is environmentally beneficial, economically viable, and socially just. AIM serves 400+ farmers, food purveyors, and artisans from 40 California counties who participate in AIM&rsquo;s Certified Farmers Markets in the cities of Hayward, Newark, Oakland, Point Reyes, San Rafael, and San Francisco. AIM also provides hands-on and virtual education programs to thousands of children and adults, operates a farm audit program, runs a mobile market for older adults and underserved communities, and operates CalFresh/EBT and Market Match services to create a healthier, equitable food system across the San Francisco Bay Area.</p><p></p><p><b><br>

JOB SUMMARY</b></p>
<p>
The Agricultural Institute of Marin is seeking 2-3 bilingual (English + Spanish / English + Chinese) Technical Support Assistants to provide in-person support to farmers and shoppers participating in the WIC and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Programs (FMNP). WIC FMNP and Senior FMNP provide funds for income-eligible California families and seniors to purchase locally grown fruits and vegetables at California Certified Farmers&rsquo; Markets. These programs transitioned from paper vouchers to an electronic payment system in 2025.</p><br>

<p>
Tech Support Assistants will attend AIM&rsquo;s Saturday and Sunday farmers markets to provide information and transaction support to farmers and customers participating in WIC and Senior FMNP. Tech Support Assistants will track commonly asked questions and unresolved issues, relaying these back to the Nutrition Access Programs Specialist for follow-up. Tech Support Assistants will also support as needed with at-market operations of additional nutrition access programs, such as CalFresh and Market Match.</p><br>

This is an entry-level position with potential for a career pathway in farmers markets operations, agricultural education, or local food systems strategies.</p><p></p><p><b><br>
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</b></p><br>
<p></p>
<ul>
<li>Provides excellent customer service and accurate information to farmers and shoppers participating in the WIC and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Programs.</li>
<li>Ensures that program signage is posted at the Information Booth and the booths of participating farmers.</li>
<li>Provides tech support, troubleshooting, and training as needed to ensure transaction readiness.</li>
<li>Assists farmers in applying for authorization to accept WIC and Senior FMNP payments.</li>
<li>Assists farmers and employees with payment processor setup.</li>
<li>Collects data on customer/farmer interactions, common questions, and unresolved tech issues; relays information to the Nutrition Access Programs Specialist for follow-up.</li>
<li>Supports Nutrition Access Programs Specialist with outreach efforts to encourage eligible farmers to become authorized to accept WIC and Senior FMNP payments.</li>
<li>Maintains excellent relations with vendors, customers, and staff</li>
<li>Occasionally supports market staff with answering customer questions, operating other nutrition benefits programs, and other duties as assigned</li></ul><br>

QUALIFICATIONS</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Must be 18 years of age or older</li>
<li>Spanish and/or Chinese language proficiency highly preferred</li>
<li>Familiarity with smartphones and online payment processors</li>
<li>Familiarity with WIC program and/or Senior FMNP a plus</li>
<li>Excellent communication, problem solving, and organizational skills</li>
<li>Ability to maintain calm, handle details, and multi-task in a busy environment</li>
<li>Self-starter with outgoing, sunny personality and a sense of humor</li>
<li>Excellent punctuality and attendance</li>
<li>Availability to work on Saturdays AND Sundays from 8am-2pm, additional availability on Thursdays a plus</li>
<li>Must have reliable transportation to and from AIM&rsquo;s farmers markets</li>
<li>General understanding and/or sincere interest in food and farming</li></ul><p><br>

<li>Ability to stand and walk in an outdoor environment for extended periods of time</li>
