DEFINITIONThe Firefighter/Paramedic will suppress and control fires in structures and other locations using specialized knowledge and tools, and conduct rescue efforts for individuals involved in accidents. Performs first-aid and emergency diagnostic and treatment procedures such as stomach suction, airway management, and heart monitoring during ambulance ride.</li><li>Immobilizes patient for placement on stretcher and ambulance transport using a backboard or other spinal immobilization device.</li><li>Operates equipment such as electrocardiograms (EKGs), external defibrillators, or bag valve mask resuscitators in advanced life support environments. Initiates cardiac monitoring, demonstrates ability to detect dysrhythmias and notifies the assigned nurse, charge nurse, and/or provider of abnormalities. Initiates oxygen therapy as directed by RN or Physician. Access electronic medical records as necessary for job duties, and document interventions according to Emory Healthcare policies, procedures, and protocols.
 
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Successful completion/graduation from an accredited Paramedic program. 2 years of clinical experience as a licensed/certified paramedic.

Responsibilities
1. Takes histories and performs physical exams as indicated on patients in the field

9. Operates the vehicle in a safe manner at all times

10. Maintains ambulances and other emergency vehicles and equipment in efficient working order, makes minor repairs and replacements when necessary, and cleans and restocks the equipment and vehicles

11. Reports any obvious mechanical malfunctions or deficiencies to the supervisor immediately verbally and/or in writing

12. Communicates with patients family and friends at the scene

13. Communicates with other health team members in the community and at the hospital

14. Assists with triage and other prehospital duties

15. Performs EKGs in the ED as well as on the ambulance

16. Performs paramedic level skills in the ED with the exception of drug administration

17. Paramedics are responsible for IV drip maintenance for those medications noted in their protocols

19. Performs heavy and awkward lofting of patients in difficult areas and terrain

TDSHS/National Registry EMT-Intermediate* $150.00</li><li>
TDSHS/National Registry EMT-Paramedic* $334.00</li><li>
TCFP Hazardous Materials Technician $25.00</li><li>
TCFP Instructor I $25.00</li><li>
TCFP Structural Fire Fighter &ndash; Intermediate certification* $25.00</li><li>
TCFP Structural Fire Fighter &ndash; Advanced certification* $50.00</li><li>
TEEX Structural Collapse Technician $25.00</li><li>Only highest EMS and Fire Fighter certification levels are eligible</li></ul>
Hiring Process:<ul><li>
Applications, with attached copies of all required certifications, college transcripts and driver's license, due by 4:00pm on May 1, 2026. Failure to provide all required copies will be cause for disqualification from testing.</li><li>
Applicants meeting requirements will be scheduled for 2-day testing process:</li><li>
May 6, 2025: Physical agility testing (pass/fail)</li></ul>
