Under the supervision of an Associate Attorney, this position provides a full range of technical legal services in support of Department programs. This position serves as a legal advisor to program administrators, policy analysts, and division staff in the day-to-day operation of these programs. This position will be responsible for undertaking legal research, interpreting statutes and regulations, drafting regulations and related rule making documents, litigation papers, meorandum, opinions, and correspondence. Performance advance payments are added to an employee's annual salary. Over time, yearly performance advances may lead to the SG-25 job rate salary of $121,413/ year!</div>

Assists Attorney General and/or Senior Assistant Attorney General in preparation of briefs, contracts, policies, legislation and other legal documents for Cherokee Nation departments, divisions, boards, etc. Assists Attorney General and/or Senior Assistant Attorney General in providing advice to Cherokee Nation administrative official, departments, divisions, boards, etc. Assists Attorney General and/or Senior Assistant Attorney General concerning transactions of business involving internal affairs, Tribal Council, directors, officers and corporate relations with general public. Primary Responsibilities</div>

COUNTY COUNSEL</b></div><div>
The Office of County Counsel is charged with providing civil legal services to County government, e.g., defending and prosecuting litigation, advising the Board of Supervisors, and providing opinions to the County and district officers on matters pertaining to their duties. The Office, as provided by the Government Code, was created on September 16, 1941, by Ordinance No. 432. Most of County Counsel's functions are defined and mandated by California statutes, County ordinances, Board resolutions, Board policy and case law.</div><div></div><div><br>
County Counsel acts as in-house counsel. The primary client is the Board of Supervisors, but all County officers and employees receive County Counsel's services. Legal services are also provided to some independent local public entities such as the Grand Jury and the Orange County Flood Control District. The Office of County Counsel is seeking attorneys with an interest or experience in civil, criminal and/or government law who are prepared to conduct hearings, try cases, examine witnesses, lodge evidentiary objections, and deliver oral arguments. The immediate vacancy is for a trial deputy for Child Protection Team, which requires daily appearance in Juvenile Dependency Court to handle all aspects of the Social Services Agency (SSA) cases where abused and neglected children need immediate protection. Prior experience specifically in Child Dependency law, though helpful, is not a pre-requisite.</div><div><br>
Future opportunities may be available in the office&rsquo;s various civil advisory and litigation services. Advisory attorneys provide legal guidance about government operations. Advisory teams cover broad practice areas such as environmental, constitutional, contract, privacy, real estate, child abuse, tax, election, transparency, and probate laws. Job Description
<br><br>
As an Attorney Advisor, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing critical legal advice and technical services in support of the OIG's core oversight mission. OGC Attorney Advisors are experienced attorneys who have previously served as civil litigators (in government and private practice), prosecutors, defense counsel, and agency counsel. OGC Attorney Advisors handle a broad range of long-term and short-term assignments, develop expertise in a wide variety of legal and policy issues, and interact with management and staff across the OIG. Typical work assignments include, but are not limited to:
<br><br>
1. Providing legal opinions or memoranda on complex and difficult issues of law relevant to general OIG operations or to particular OIG audits, investigations, inspections, or reviews, which encompass criminal, national security, ethics, and other issues.
<br><br>
2. Engaging in meetings, personal contacts, and telephone conferences with top legal and administrative personnel in the Department of Justice and other federal agencies, on important legal and policy questions and issues.
<br><br>
3. Acting as the principal attorney in charge of the preparation and presentation of cases before administrative bodies, and serving as the OIG's liaison with the litigating DOJ component in litigation to which the OIG is a party.

4. Analyzing and preparing recommendations for OIG responses to requests under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), and reviewing OIG reports for Privacy Act protected and proprietary information to clear such reports for public release.

Qualifications
<br><br>
To meet the minimum qualifications for this position you must be a graduate from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association, possess a J.D. Degree, and be an active member in good standing of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction).

Possessing the minimum post law degree legal experience does not guarantee the applicant will be selected at that grade level.

In addition, to qualify for this position at the GS-15 level, applicants must have at least 4 years or more post-J.D. legal experience, one (1) of which was specialized experience at, or equivalent to, the GS-14 grade level.
