Part-Time Grounds Keeper

Grounds Keeper Position Overview: 
In this role, you'll be essential in keeping our community grounds and facilities well-maintained and visually appealing. Responsibilities include cleaning up trash and debris, raking leaves, sweeping walkways, mowing lawns, and trimming trees and hedges. In addition, your main focus will be adding curb appeal to the community.
 
Grounds Keeper Essential Functions: 
1. Maintain community assets including grounds, buildings, equipment, pools, etc.
 2. Mow lawns and trim edges around walks, flower beds, etc.
 3. Landscaping, including but not limited to, mowing, trimming, planting flowers, maintaining tree limbs and prune the grounds as needed
 4. Perform minor repairs on equipment utilized in groundskeeping
 5. Follow all OSHA standards and maintain PPE equipment
 6. Respond to emergency calls as directed by management if applicable.
 7. Communicate effectively with team members, vendors, and residents.
 8. Assist with maintenance tasks, including but not limited to delivering notices and conducting meter reads as directed by the community manager
 9. Maintain safe winter road conditions through snow removal and de-icing when applicable
 10. Additional duties as assigned by management and subject to change
 
Grounds Keeper Physical Requirements: 
<ul>
<li>Ability to stand and walk for up to eight (8) hours per day</li>
<li>Use of hands, including fingers, to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls in a repetitive motion.</li>
<li>Capacity to reach with arms and hands overhead and in front of your body safely.</li>
<li>Frequently required to be flexible by climbing, balancing, or occasionally crawling in confined spaces</li>
<li>Ability to see clearly at both far and close distances as well as the capacity to adjust focus effectively.</li>
<li>Required to regularly push, pull, lift, or carry 50 lbs. Occasionally up to 85 lbs.</li>
<li>Proper handling of potentially hazardous chemicals</li>
<li>Must be able to climb ladders, occasionally up to an 8-foot ladder safely</li>
</ul>
Grounds Keeper Education and Experience: 
<ul>
<li>A valid in-state driver’s license is required</li>
<li>A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred</li>
<li>Proficiency in Microsoft Office and industry specific software products including the use of electronic devices, such as a work tablet or computer</li>
<li>OSHA certifications or completed trainings are a plus</li>

<div>THE POSITION
Under direct supervision of the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor, Crew Leader, or Groundskeeper II, performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to the care and maintenance of park grounds and related building facilities, as assigned. The position involves some work related to park maintenance, improvement and development. Starting and ending times for maintenance crews vary. Position may be assigned to work from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., or 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Position will be required to work weekends for two years, and will be required to work holidays. 
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES 
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to:<ul><li>
Operation of various power mowing and edging equipment</li><li>
Pest and weed control spraying, the application of various fertilizers</li><li>
Weeding, and pruning</li><li>
Minor sprinkler system repair</li><li>
Landscape installation</li><li>
Ball field preparation</li><li>
Equestrian and trail maintenance</li><li>
Graffiti and trash removal</li><li>
Minor maintenance of the equipment used</li><li>
Cleaning and upkeep of park building facilities (restrooms) The position may perform other related work as assigned.</li></ul>
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Requires: adequate proficiency in reading, understanding, and speaking basic English; minimum one (1) year of experience in grounds maintenance, landscape installation or other related experience; level of knowledge, skill and ability in the area of grounds maintenance that allows this person to make a meaningful contribution towards the District's goal of providing well-maintained parks to the community; ability to be an excellent member of the team and also to work independently; ability to sustain an acceptable level of productivity.
License / Certification: Must possess a valid California driver's license and good driving record. A CA Certified Applicator's Certificate is desired. 
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS
It is expected this position will require walking or standing 70% of the time or more; occasional to frequent bending, kneeling, squatting, reaching overhead or stretching and working on uneven terrain.
There will be occasional crawling or climbing ladders and/or stairs; some lifting of 100 pounds or more and occasional to frequent lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling loads of 0-100 pounds; frequent handling and dexterity. This position will require the operation of some or all of the following equipment: power mowers, edgers, blowers, weed eater, tractor, rototiller, sprayer, chain saw, stump grinder and trencher, and District vehicle.</div>
