Job Summary
Serve as a Firefighter assigned to a crew engaged in airfield, structural firefighting, crash-rescue, Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT). Position Summary &amp; Responsibilities: 
The fire fighter may be required to perform all rescue, fire suppression, EMS, hazard containment and control duties at any time during a tour of duty. These duties will be performed by driving and/or operating crash/rescue and structural vehicles and operating firefighting, rescue, and specialized hand and power equipment for the purpose of conducting rescue operations, controlling and extinguishing fire on any aircraft, structure, or wheeled vehicle over which this department has jurisdiction, and dealing with any specialty calls such as but not limited to hazardous materials, and confined space. The fire fighter may be required to perform firefighting and rescue duties during hazardous materials incidents. These duties will be performed to the level of training the fire fighter has completed. The performance of theses duties will take precedent over all other duties performed by the fire fighter at any time, day/Night, 100% of the tour of duty. The goal of this department is to save lives and property. The duties listed below are essential duties and the proper execution of those duties are required to provide the expected level of customer services to meet our goal. Without the proper execution of duties listed below, failure to provide the expected customer services and meet the goal of it is highly probable. Failure to meet the department goal will degrade mission capability of the 190th ARW. The normal duty day will commence at 0700 and cease at 1600 and will have specific essential duties. Standby time (down time) will commence at 1600 and last until the tour of duty ends at 0700 the next morning. There are certain functions of this operation that will or may require a fire fighter to perform specific tasks during this time. Fire Fighters will perform EMS duties to their certified level of training as required 
Fights aerospace vehicle fires. Drives and operates ARFF and support vehicles. Operates hand and power tools and equipment, controls and extinguishes aerospace vehicle fires, and performs ventilation, overhaul and salvage operations. Performs hazardous standbys and airfield surveillance operations. These tasks will be reviewed annually by the station captain. 
Fights structural fires. Drives and operates structural firefighting and support vehicles. Performs hose evolutions and pump operations. Shuts off building utilities, works at heights from ladders, evacuates personnel from buildings, protects exposures, positions and operates hand and power tools and equipment. Controls and extinguishes structural fires, performs ventilation, salvage and overhaul operations, loads hose and makes hose load finish. These tasks will be reviewed annually by the station captain. 
Fights wildland and miscellaneous fires. Controls and extinguish fires in wildland and misc- laneous areas. These tasks will be reviewed annually by the station captain. 
Perform all types of rescue operations. Drives ARFF and support vehicles, operates hand and power tools, equipment, and works at heights from ladders. Effects entry by normal and emergency means. Shutting down aircraft engines/systems and safeties aircraft egress systems. Administers EMS care as trained. These tasks to be reviewed annually by the station captain. 
When first arrive at the scene of an emergency, establish command and control, and coordinates/directs firefighting, rescue, containment, and control activities until relieved by a senior fire officer. These tasks will be reviewed annually by the station captain. 
Participates in physical fitness activities on every shift basis 
Performs fire alarm communication center duties. Alerts firefighting personnel and support agencies, dispatches equipment, and informs personnel of the location and nature emergency. Provides pertinent information during emergencies and maintains a fire station log. Monitors, receives, and records information from normal or emergency communication systems. Maintains and reads maps, charts, and status boards. Operates automated communication center equipment. These tasks will be reviewed annually by the station captain. Performs inspections and operator maintenance on structural, ARFF, and support vehicles, tools equipment, and protective clothing. These tasks will be reviewed annually by the station captain. 
Maintains fire stations, grounds and facilities. Inspects, maintains, repairs, recharges, and tests fire extinguishers. Identifies, inspects, and resets fire suppression/detection systems These tasks will be reviewed annually by the station captain. 
Fire Prevention, Public Fire Education, and Fire Cause Determination. This includes protection and preservation of evidence at incident scenes. Performs these duties within the limits of NFPA Standard 1001 for the Fire Fighter II. These tasks will be reviewed annually by the station captain. 
Performs crew duties on a Hazardous Materials Response Team. Identifies hazardous materials, performs rescue, extinguishes fires, and takes action to contain hazardous materials within the limits of NFPA Standard 472. These tasks will be reviewed annually by the station captain. 
Comply with proper safety practices according to NFPA Standard 1500, Fire Department Occupational safety and Health Standard. These tasks will be reviewed annually by the station captain. 
Mounted equipment; hand and power tools; ladders; floor buffer; hi-pak; SCBA compressor; cascade system; foam trailer; various electrical generators; movie projectors; overhead slide projector; cassette tape player; video (VHS and 3/4&rdquo;); foam refractor; personal computer; printers; copy machines; physical conditioning equipment, ergometer and universal or other approved weights. Other specialized equipment. Above equipment may be used on every shift basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

 Performs responsible emergency response work including fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical, and hazardous materials response and maintains fire apparatus, facilities, grounds, and related equipment.An employee in this class is responsible for performing various emergency response and general fire suppression work at the scene of a fire. Work involves preparing equipment for responding to fire calls, fighting fires, fire salvage, and equipment and vehicle maintenance. Work may involve driving a fire engine to the fire scene and performing the duties of a Fire Engineer at the scene of a fire. Work is often performed under stressful emergency conditions and frequently involves personal hazards. Work standards and procedures are generally established and understood. The employees are subject to call-back requirements and hazards associated with firefighting and emergency care including working in both inside and outside environments, in extreme cold weather, and exposure to various hazards such as exposure to high heat, exposure to chemicals, and in the proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, and working in high places. Employees are also exposed to atmospheric conditions and subject to OSHA requirements on bloodborne pathogens, and may be required to work in close quarters. Work is reviewed through observation and discussions concerning the quality and effectiveness of fire and rescue efforts and through evaluation of the completion of training activities.
 
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
 The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.Provides responses to fires and emergency calls; participates in hazardous material response and prevention programs.Responds to alarms and assists in the suppression of fire including search and rescue, entry, ventilation and salvage work, connects hoses to hydrants, uses hoses to apply water or chemicals to fire, forces entry into burning structures, searches for and rescues occupants.Performs routine maintenance and servicing of equipment including washing and waxing trucks, checking batteries, checking fuel and oil levels, cleaning and drying hoses, inspecting hose and hose connections for damage and wear.Participates in fire inspections, pre-incident planning, incident reporting, continuing education training programs, serves in the absence of the Fire Engineer once trained.Maintains equipment, performs minor repairs, and cleans assigned fire station quarters, apparatus room and grounds.Reports facility maintenance, radio, vehicle and equipment problems to appropriate level of authority.Performs related duties as required.
