HGL is hiring for a Waste Sampling Specialist (Hazardous Waste Disposal Technician III) that supports nuclear decontamination and decommissioning (D&amp;D) operations by performing environmental and radiological waste sampling, characterization, and data evaluation activities to support a Deactivation, Decommissioning, and Removal project for five buildings at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) project site in Livermore, CA. The duration of project is anticipated to be 5 &frac12; years.</div><div></div><div><br>
This role ensures compliance with DOE, NRC, EPA, and state regulatory requirements and supports safe, compliant waste disposition activities. The position requires hands-on field sampling experience in radiological and hazardous waste environments and close coordination with health physics, waste management, and project operations teams.</div><div></div><div><b><br>

The Safety Technician (R&amp;H Waste) performs varied physical and technical tasks in support of the Environmental Health and Safety Department specifically related to the management of hazardous chemical, biological and radioactive waste. Minor clerical duties involving database input.</p><br>

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:</b></p>

<li>Removes chemical, biological, and radioactive waste from labs and transports it to the processing facility;</li>
<li>Processes and packages chemical (bulk and lab pack) and radioactive wastes for off-site disposal;</li>
<li>Performs radioactive contamination surveys: selects surfaces to test, performs wipe tests and places wipe in scintillation counter for analysis, decontaminates facilities and equipment utilizing absorbent material and decontamination solutions, verifies successful decontamination;</li>
<li>Operates and calibrates various monitoring instruments using a portable pulse generator and sealed radioactive check sources, and interprets measurements/findings;</li>
<li>Processes incoming packages of radioactive materials, biological and/or controlled substances;</li>
<li>May provide basic technical guidance to research employees in the areas of radiation protection, radiation instrumentation, radioactive waste management, chemical hygiene, personal protective equipment, and chemical waste management;</li>

The Hazardous Waste Specialist supports the waste services team in managing hazardous, regulated chemical, universal, radiological, and biological wastes safely and compliantly. This role emphasizes operational efficiency and effective group communication. Key tasks may include:</p><ul><li><p>
Proper handling of hazardous chemical and infectious wastes; transports unwanted chemicals from generation sites to the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) storage processing facilities;</p></li><li><p>
Segregates and packages unwanted and usable chemicals; collects and distributes surplus chemicals to requesting individuals, maintains hazardous chemical and infectious waste materials;</p></li><li><p>
