As the Hazardous Waste Technician you will: Serve the community, protect people and the environment by collecting hazardous materials from residents and small businesses. Work as a team to safely and properly identify, accept, receive, sort, inspect, process, package, manifest and dispose of hazardous waste by all state and federal regulations.Correctly use personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, and keep PPE clean and in good working condition (Metro provides employees with all necessary PPE.)Test unknown hazardous waste in the lab to classify it for safe disposal.Provide information and answer customers’ hazardous waste questions in person or by phone or email.Participate in neighborhood hazardous waste collection events and outreach activities.Keep routine records such as incident reports, daily operational forms, etc. Prepare inventory counts, reports, and labpack documents. This is a highly physical position and technicians often must work while wearing protective equipment or clothing such as safety shoes, safety glasses, Tyvek suits, nitrile gloves, and respirators that can limit normal movements. Metro provides Hazardous Waste Technicians with all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required for the job. The job may require frequent or continuous standing, stooping, bending, twisting, walking, talking, sitting, feeling, grasping, handling and good general hearing. About the Team

TechSource is seeking a Waste Management Technician to support mission-critical waste management and ESH&amp;Q operations within highly regulated nuclear facilities, ensuring safe, compliant handling, characterization, and disposition of hazardous and radioactive materials in alignment with national security objectives. 


About this Role

The Waste Management Technician performs technical work supporting the handling, inspection, packaging, and storage of hazardous and radioactive waste materials. Technicians ensure waste materials are managed safely and in compliance with established procedures. 


Key Responsibilities
<ul><li>
Handle, package, label, and store hazardous, radioactive, or mixed waste materials.</li><li>
Perform inspections and characterization reviews on waste containers to verify proper handling and storage requirements.</li><li>
Operate mechanical equipment such as forklifts or drum handlers to move and stage waste containers.</li><li>
Assist with waste segregation, repackaging, and container preparation activities.</li><li>
Maintain accurate records for waste profiles, inventory, inspections, and disposal documentation.</li><li>
Conduct visual inspections to identify prohibited materials or compliance issues.</li><li>
Support laboratory or facility operations by transporting waste containers and materials between designated areas.</li><li>
Follow detailed operating procedures and safety protocols for hazardous material handling.</li><li>
Assist with troubleshooting operational issues related to waste handling processes.</li></ul> 


Work Environment

100% onsite at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in Los Alamos, NM. The site location is a one-way, approximately 45-minute drive from Santa Fe and approximately 90-minute drive from Albuquerque.

Must be willing to work around radioactive materials in compliance with safety protocols.</li><li>
Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance, which includes successfully passing a federal drug test and federal background check.</li><li>

About the Team

TechSource is seeking a Waste Management Technician to support mission-critical waste management and ESH&amp;Q operations within highly regulated nuclear facilities, ensuring safe, compliant handling, characterization, and disposition of hazardous and radioactive materials in alignment with national security objectives. 


About this Role

The Waste Management Shipper prepares shipments in accordance with DOT regulations including industrial, hazardous, and radioactive material/waste. This role ensures accurate documentation, packaging, and regulatory compliance for all outgoing waste shipments. 


Key Responsibilities
<ul><li>
Prepare hazardous and radioactive waste shipments according to regulatory requirements and facility procedures.</li><li>
Generate and review shipping documentation including manifests, waste profiles, and disposal requests.</li><li>
Verify packaging, labeling, and container integrity prior to shipment.</li><li>
Coordinate shipment scheduling with transportation providers and receiving facilities.</li><li>
Maintain records of waste shipments and transportation documentation.</li><li>
Ensure shipments meet regulatory standards for hazardous and radioactive material transport.</li><li>
Conduct inspections and quality checks prior to shipment release.</li><li>
Assist with inventory tracking and waste storage management.</li><li>
Collaborate with waste management technicians and coordinators to ensure waste readiness for shipment.</li></ul> 


Work Environment

100% onsite at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in Los Alamos, NM. The site location is a one-way, approximately 45-minute drive from Santa Fe and approximately 90-minute drive from Albuquerque.<ul><li>
Must be willing to work around radioactive materials in compliance with safety protocols.</li><li>
Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance, which includes successfully passing a federal drug test and federal background check.
</li><li>A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.</li><li>

The individual selected for this position must be a self-directed, dependable employee. This person will maintain supply water to the degree of purity specified and keep outgoing waste water within environmental regulatory limits. This person will prepares hazardous waste for treatment or shipment to a designated facility. The technician provides technical support and regulatory information about environmental operations to management staff.
Duties and Responsibilities:
<ul><li>Performs routine and as needed analysis of solutions from the wastewater treatment system in such a way as to maintain the effluent from the system in compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.
</li><li>Performs chemical analysis for same.
</li><li>Insures that facility is in compliance with solid hazardous waste regulations or RCRA (Resource Conservation Recovery Act).
</li><li>Identifies chemical, mechanical, electrical conditions that affect or have the potential to affect the operations of the wastewater treatment system.
</li><li>Operates and monitors incoming water treatment systems (softeners, RO and deionizers).
</li><li>Prepares hazardous waste for shipment in compliance with U.S. Department of Transportation and U.S.E.P.A. regulations.
</li><li>Cleans hazardous material containers prior to recycling or disposal.
</li><li>Troubleshoots all water treatment systems and determines when to contact outside help.
