 Health Educator, UNLV Student Wellness - Student Counseling and Psychology [R0150993]
 
 
 
 ROLE of the POSITION
 
 
 The Wellness Educator is a student-facing position that maintains a consistent on-site presence within the UNLV Wellness Zone. The Wellness Educator provides walk-in consultation, as needed, to promote holistic wellness education and assists with resource navigation including those available in the Wellness Zone and across campus. The Wellness Educator develops, implements, and evaluates a variety of health and mental health programs and initiatives with a focus on alcohol and other drugs, sexual health, mental health awareness, and general wellness. This specialist will utilize evidence-based programming and assess the measurable impact of such wellness programs and training with an overarching goal of providing students with informed-decision making skills that enhance their personal wellness and academic performance. The Wellness Educator collaborates with campus stakeholders to implement a comprehensive approach to promote the health and safety of students. This position also provides oversight and coordination of prevention programming as well as hiring, training, and supervising student workers, interns, and peer educators.
 
 
 Some evenings and weekends required.
 
 
 
 Minimum Qualifications
 
 
 
 This position requires a bachelor&rsquo;s degree in Health Education/Promotion, Health Communication, Public Health, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and 1 year of experience in health/wellness education or promotion. Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date. All candidates must pass a background screening.
 
 
 The successful candidate will demonstrate skills in the following: 1) utilizing behavior change theories and models in the development and implementation of evidence-based programs and initiatives; 2) implementing and evaluating population-based prevention initiatives; 3) working with a variety of educational methods including presentations, trainings, small group facilitation, and individual consultation sessions; 4) critically reviewing health-related literature and synthesizing such information to develop health promotion initiatives and educational materials for diverse groups of college students; 5) maintaining excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; 6) solving problems using critical thinking and good judgement; 7) managing multiple projects and duties simultaneously; 8) professionally managing confidential or sensitive information with professional discretion; 9) utilizing health communication and social marketing; 10) using computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation design; 11) using social media platforms to promote student wellness; 12) collaborating with other professionals in a dynamic team environment; and 13) using data-driven, program assessment and evaluation to inform future programing.
 
 
 
 Preferred Qualifications
 
 
 
 Master&rsquo;s degree in Health Education/Promotion, Health Communication, Public Health or closely related field, plus 1 year of professional experience. Experience as a Graduate Assistant may apply. Preference for experience working with college students, mental health knowledge, alcohol and other drugs prevention programming, and proficiency in the use of social media for wellness promotion. CHES preferred. CPR/First Aid Provider and Instructor preferred.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
 
Experience: 
<ul>
<li>Minimum of 4 years of RN or Paramedic experience in critical care or emergency department, or 4 years of previous transport experience.</li>
<li>Experience in public speaking and education/training (preferred).</li>
</ul>
Education: 
<ul>
<li>Bachelor of Science in a health-related field (preferred).</li>
<li>Master’s degree (preferred).</li>
</ul>
Required Certifications at Time of Hire with MercyOne
 
Must be obtained and maintained: 
<ul>
<li>Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Iowaor Iowa Licensed Critical Care Paramedic.</li>
<li>Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association.</li>
<li>Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).</li>
<li>Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).</li>
<li>Advanced Flight Certification (CFRN or FP-C).</li>
<li>Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).</li>
<li>Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC)or Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS).</li>
<li>Transport Professional Advanced Trauma Course (TPATC) –(Preferred).</li>
</ul>
Required Within 3 Months of Hire

<li>Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to the population served.</li>

Nurse Educator</div><div>
Patients are at the center of our business strategies. The Nurse Educator Program is an educational based program designed as a resource for patients living with chronic diseases that have been prescribed specific medications. Nurse Educators provide education about specific disease treatments, and resources to help patients better begin and manage their disease state and resources associated with their prescribed medication. Nurse Educators are responsible for participating in one-on-one communications with patients. The Nurse Educator interacts with enrolled patients in person, by telephone, video platforms, email and SMS strictly following the guidelines of the program. Since the program is strictly educational based, Nurse Educators do not provide medical advice or work clinically within this role.</div><div>
The Nurse Educator will:</div><ul><li>Coordinate and facilitate the connection between patients and program approved, patient-based resources.</li><li>Provide direct educational training to patients on specific disease states and assigned medication.</li><li>Ability to support multiple disease states and medications as needed</li><li>Provide patient-focused education to promote behavioral change for the empowerment of patients to improve specific treatment compliance</li><li>Foster appropriate dialogue between patient and health care provider</li></ul><div>

The potential base pay range for this role is $95,000-$105,000 annually. The actual base pay offered may vary based on a number of factors including job-related qualifications such as knowledge, skills, education, and experience; location; and/or schedule (full or part-time).
