Purpose: 
The Patient Care Technician, CNA provides routine patient care and supports the department services in accordance with established policies and procedures and may be directed by the nurse or physician to assure that the highest degree of quality patient care can be maintained at all times. Must routinely perform the UPMC nursing core nursing assistant responsibilities including ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning and repositioning patients. PLUS point of care testing (inc. blood glucose), weights, vital signs, I&amp;O, telemetry monitor application/reapplication, HAC &amp; PSI prevention (TEDs/SCDs). In addition, simple dressings, placement and removal of restraints, bladder scan, all specimen collections, 12-lead EKGs and ticket to ride. All competencies must be achieved. Responsibilities:

 Patient Care Technician facilitates and assists in meeting the needs of the patient. These tasks are to be within the range of responsibilities that the Registered Nurse (RN) can rightfully delegate to an unlicensed patient care provider. The Patient Care Technician (PCT) follows the direction of the Registered Nurse, the Lead/Charge Nurse, the Nursing Director/ Assistant Nursing Director, as well as the House Supervisor.

In addition to the standard required competencies, the Patient Care Technician - Specialist will achieve and maintain competency and/or perform at least 1 or more of the following advanced skills based on department operational need: basic arrythmia, complex wound care, 12 lead EKG, and NG tubes clamping and removal.</li><li>
Provides instruction to patients and their families under the direction of the RN. May apply, monitor, and remove patient restraints as per physician or hospital protocol.</li><li>
Identifies and communicates learning needs to the unit director or direct leader. Request&rsquo;s assistance in planning and prioritizing activities as needed.</li><li>
Assumes responsibility for assignment and views problems as challenges. Demonstrates awareness of behavior on the efficient functioning of the department. Supports department-based projects and quality initiatives. Documents in the medical record according to established procedures. Transports cardiac monitored patients within the hospital setting. May insert foley catheters and perform straight catheterization as instructed by RN. May perform IV insertion, removal, and dressing change. Completes department clerical functions as needed.</li><li>
May, in the course of their duties, be in rooms where medications are stored or may transport medications when they transport patients. Transportation of medication is limited from one department to another.</li></ul></div><div><ul><li>
High school diploma or GED.</li><li>
Must also have either a) 2 years of general healthcare experience and meet requirements of Patient Care Technician - Senior title, OR b) 1 year of experience (defined above) and enrollment in PT/OT/PA program with completion of at least one clinical rotation, or c) 1 year of experience (defined above) and completion of a bachelor&rsquo;s degree in a health sciences field.</li><li>
Annual completion of a professional contribution to be determined after hire.</li><li>
Successful completion of patient care technician specialist class.</li><li>
Successful completion of eRecord training.</li><li>
Nursing Student that has completed one clinical rotation preferred Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred.</li><li>
May require successful completion of the appropriate UPMC cardiac rhythm course as determined by organizational guidelines and unit-based clinical operations. 
 
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: 
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire ACLS preferred

JOB SUMMARY: 
A Medical Technician (Med Tech) will play an essential role in delivering compassionate care to residents within a community-based care setting. This position involves providing direct care, administering medications, monitoring patient health, and supporting overall wellness. The ideal candidate will have a strong sense of responsibility, a compassionate approach, and a commitment to high-quality care.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES: 
<ul>
<li>Maintain patient confidentiality</li>
<li>Fosters a supportive, compassionate environment for our residents and their families</li>
<li>Medication Administration: Prepare and administer medications to residents as prescribed, following all state and federal regulations, facility policies and procedures and maintaining accurate medication records.</li>
<li>Report changes in residents' conditions to appropriate team members.</li>
<li>Assistance with Daily Living: Support residents with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and grooming, ensuring dignity and comfort.</li>
<li>Care Coordination: Collaborate with nursing and other healthcare professionals to create and maintain individual care plans for each resident.</li>
<li>Documentation: Accurately document all care, medications, and any observed changes in residents’ conditions in accordance with company policies.</li>
<li>Emergency Response: Act promptly and calmly in emergencies, following established protocols to ensure resident safety.</li>
<li>Family Communication: Communicate with residents' families regarding health status, medication changes, and overall care updates, fostering trust and transparency.</li>
<li>Compliance: Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations, as well as company policies regarding healthcare and safety standards.</li>
<li>Other duties as assigned</li>

REQUIREMENTS: 
<ul>
<li>High school diploma or equivalent required.</li>
<li>Previous experience in healthcare setting, preferably in assisted living, long-term care or community based care.</li>
<li>Ability to work independently and as part of a team.</li>
<li>Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help others.</li>
<li>Good organizational and time-management skills.</li>
<li>Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and assisting clients with mobility.</li>
<li>Must be able to stand, walk, and reach for extended periods.</li>
<li>Ability to pass a background check.</li>
<li>Experience: Prior experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in assisted living, long-term care, or community-based care.</li>
<li>Skills: Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.</li>
<li>Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move residents as needed, as well as stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.</li>
