The Varsity Football Head Coach will be a 12-month contracted position (salary commensurate with both education and previous experience), and will additionally be paid the following annual stipends:</p><ul><li>
$5,600.00 stipend for head football coach duties</li><li>
$5,000.00 stipend for duties associated with weight room activities and scheduling.</li></ul><p></p><p><b><br>
Essential Functions:</b></p><ul><li>
Coach the high school varsity football team.</li><li>
Build and maintain a sustainable, winning football program by organizing and directing the activities of the assistant coaches from Middle School to High School.</li><li>
Teach fundamental football skills to student athletes incorporating the appreciation for its traditions and values of sportsmanship.</li><li>
Assure that all student-athletes are eligible to play and enforce the academic tutoring plan for Roanoke City Schools.</li><li>
Participate in the evaluation of all football coaches in the relevant high school and middle school football programs.</li><li>
Develop and/or expand relationships with WFHS athletic booster club and community-based athletic organizations.</li></ul><p></p><p><b><br>
Required Qualifications:</b></p><ul><li>
The head coach must work in the building.</li><li>
Three to five years of experience as a head football coach or assistant football coach in a high school, collegiate, or professional football program.</li><li>
Successful record of accomplishment in creating a high-quality football program.</li><li>
Strong values of leadership, sportsmanship, fair play, and interpersonal relationship skills.</li><li>
Able to serve as an ambassador for both the school division and the football program in the community.</li><li>
Hold all certification(s) required for coaching high school football, and meet all coaching requirements of VHSL, RCPS, and/or other entities with standing.</li></ul><p></p><p><b><br>
Preferred Qualifications:</b></p><ul><li>
The preferred candidate will possess or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license at the high school level and meet standards for highly qualified under Every Student Succeeds Act. Working in a teaching position in order to coach is not a requirement, though it is preferred that the individual be employed in some other capacity within the school building.</li></ul><p></p><p><br>

General Summary:</b></p><p>
The Assistant Coach is responsible for helping each participating student achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem. The Assistant Coach reports to the Head Coach and works under the auspices of the Varsity Head Coach and on-site Athletic Director.</p><p></p><p><b><br>
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:</b></p><p></p><p><br>
Administrative Responsibilities</p><ul><li>
Adheres to the Code of Conduct for coaches; acts as a positive role model on and off the court/field/site, etc.;</li><li>
Adheres to Playing Fair: A Guide to Title IX in High School and College Sports;</li><li>
Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved;</li><li>
Maintains competency in rules, rule interpretations, meet procedures, coaching techniques, and general information about all aspects of the sport;</li><li>
Works cooperatively with all TCAPS coaches, athletic directors and students to ensure a healthy, positive cross town rivalry;</li><li>
Supports the Head Coach in the conduct of his/her particular sport and the total athletic program;</li><li>
Fulfills all responsibilities assigned by the Head Coach;</li><li>
Is prepared to assume the responsibility of the Head Coach, if and when necessary;</li><li>
Assists the Head Coach in planning transportation and appropriate supervision at away contests in compliance with district travel policy and guidelines;</li></ul><p>

Assists the Head Coach in maintaining accurate statistics, records, and results of the season;</li><li>

Assists in maintaining a detailed inventory list of uniforms, equipment and supplies, and recommends uniform, equipment and supply requests to the Head Coach;</li><li>

Athletic Behavior/Eligibility Responsibilities</p><ul><li>
Reinforces the Head Coach in all rules of the Michigan High School Athletic Association related to his/her sport;</li><li>
Reinforces the Head Coach in discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and abides by established penalties for breach of such standards by individual students;</li><li>
Assists the Head Coach in establishing performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in this sport.</li><li>
Checks with the Head Coach on individual athlete&rsquo;s eligibility;</li></ul><p>
Injury/Safety</p><ul><li>
Assists the Head Coach in overseeing the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present;</li><li>
Reinforces rules and regulations concerning conditioning of players and their health and safety;</li><li>
Reports injuries to the Head Coach or completes and submits accident reports to the on-site Athletic Director;</li><li>
Exercises great care in dealing with all injuries and particularly those that are of a serious nature. In all cases, the coach should assure that the injured athlete is receiving competent medical care. Following injuries of a serious or prolonged nature, the coach should secure the signed approval of the doctor and parent before the athlete is allowed to participate again in athletic activities;</li><li>
Provides supervision of all athletes until they have left the building and/or site;</li><li>
Ensures that all windows, doors, and gates are locked in any area that has been used;</li></ul><p>
Team Activities</p><ul><li>
Assists the Head Coach with all practice sessions and out-of-season conditioning program;</li><li>
Ensures a positive environment free of hazing, harassment, bullying and intimidating language and behaviors;</li></ul><p>

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</b></p><ul><li>
Learns and adheres to the coaching philosophy and program of the head coach.</li><li>
Accept and implement the co-curricular philosophy of High School.</li><li>
Follows the rules and regulations of the school, the conference and the State High School League.</li><li>
Attend the rules interpretation meeting held by the State High School League.</li><li>
Assist to develop continuity between the community and school programs.</li><li>
Provide leadership in his or her program for all levels (9th, 10th, JV and Varsity) of the sport.</li><li>
Only allows athletes certified by the Activities Office to participate.</li><li>
Maintains appropriate supervision of his/her program at all times (locker rooms, practices, events, bus</li></ul><p>
rides, etc.). Supervises any and all space used by athletes while they are present.</p><ul><li>
Assures that the squad at all times will reflect proper attitude and conduct at home or away.</li><li>
Encourages young men and women to participate in sports and other co-curricular activities other than his/her own but does not attempt to influence the specific sport or activity.</li><li>
Represent the school in a professional manner in demeanor, language, and conduct (based on standards established by the DSA).</li><li>
Teaches and emphasizes safe procedures to athletes.</li><li>
Conduct out-of-season training as needed.</li><li>
Attend athletic awards programs.</li><li>

EQUIPMENT AND FACILITIES:</b></p><ul><li>
Regularly inspect equipment and facilities to insure the safety of each student athlete.</li><li>
Assists in the responsibility for care of equipment and facilities being used.</li><li>
Assists in the issuance, return, and maintenance of equipment.</li><li>
Assists in ensuring that all equipment is cleaned, repaired, and stored properly at the end of the season.</li><li>
Makes recommendations to the DSA regarding needed equipment or repairs to the facility.</li></ul><p><b>
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:</b></p><ul><li>
Assist the DSA and principal in the hiring and retention of assistant coaches.</li><li>
Assist students in communication with prospective college coaches and provide letters of recommendation as requested.</li><li>
Direct, supervise, and evaluate regularly the performance of all assistant coaches of the respective sport.</li><li>
Enforces all building and district regulations and policies.</li><li>
Has knowledge and keeps current on rules and regulations regarding your sport and in accordance with VHSL, HCPS, and HHS.</li><li>
Keeps abreast of new knowledge and innovative ideas and techniques by attending clinics, workshops, or other methods.</li><li>
Registering and maintaining records on all athletes.</li><li>
Assures possession of a copy of each student&rsquo;s current physical before allowing the student to participate.</li><li>
Assures that a copy of the student&rsquo;s commitment form is on file in the athletic office before allowing the student to compete.</li><li>
Provides information on game times, bus schedules, and practice times to parents and athletes.</li><li>
Conducts self as a personal example of positive demeanor for the athletes and represents the school in a favorable manner.</li><li>
Responsible for reporting scores and disseminating team information publicly.</li><li>
Delegate responsibilities to the assistant coaches as appropriate.</li><li>
Organize and participate in an end of the season information and evaluation sessions with all assistant coaches.</li><li>
Works cooperatively with the DSA and principal on all endeavors related to assigned sport.</li><li>
Participate in pre and post season meetings with the DSA. The post-season meeting will serve as an evaluation conference.</li></ul><p><b>

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:</b></p><p>
Duties performed typically in settings related to athletics and include, but not limited to: gymnasiums, sport fields, locker rooms, activity buses, weight rooms, and other home and away recreational areas. Frequent walking, stooping, standing, lifting, up to approximately 50 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment/objects weighing in excess of 75 pounds. Other physical activities are required. Travel with students, coaches, trainers, and teams on athletic related trips is required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for determining injuries/illnesses; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise and hazards. Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required. Contact with athletic coaches, athletic trainers, administration, staff, and parents is required. Contact with medical professionals may be required. Frequent contact with parents by phone and in person is necessary.</p><p><i>
