POSITION SUMMARY: 
The high school librarian manages and supervises the building library and promotes the use of the library media center to students. 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage daily operations of the school library, including circulation, cataloging, and inventory of textbooks, library books and Chromebooks using the library management system.</li><li>
Maintain and develop diverse print and digital library collections aligned with curriculum and students' interests.</li><li>
Collaborate with teachers and staff to support classroom instruction and research projects.</li><li>
Provide instruction in research skills, information literacy, and digital citizenship.</li><li>
Assist students and staff in locating and evaluating information resources.</li><li>
Promote reading and literacy through displays, programs, and library events.</li><li>
Maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive library environment that supports independent learning and collaboration.</li><li>
Supervise library aides, volunteers, or student assistants as assigned.</li><li>
Manage library budgets, materials ordering, and resource subscriptions.</li><li>
Guide students in reading for understanding, pleasure and the exploration of diverse viewpoints and genres.</li></ul> 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:<ul><li>
Physically able to occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds.</li><li>
Ability to walk, stand, sit, stoop, bend, reach, kneel, crawl, and grasp as 
required to successfully perform all duties and requirements.</li><li>
Ability to focus (adjust eye to bring an object into sharp focus), clear vision at 
twenty (20) inches or less, and clear vision at twenty (20) feet or more.</li></ul> 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Prefer Masters in Library Information Science or a minimum of 36 hours in library media-oriented courses in print and non-print selection, cataloging, reference media utilization and production, curriculum and administration. 
EXPERIENCE: Academic background and coursework in Library Media, Successful teaching experience, and effective work with secondary students. 
CERTIFICATES &amp; LICENSES: Valid Washington State teaching certificate with Librarian endorsements 
CONTINUING EDUCATION/TRAINING: That which is required to be effective in the position and to maintain certification.
