POSITION SUMMARY</div>

The Hewitt School is seeking a middle and upper school strings teacher and conductor.<br>
<br>
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES</div>
<ul><li>Teach beginner 5th grade strings class</li>
<li>Teach and conduct intermediate 6th, 7th and 8th grade string ensembles</li>
<li>Teach small group lessons to middle school students focusing on instrumental technique</li>
<li>Teach and conduct upper school chamber orchestra</li>
<li>Prepare ensembles for winter and spring concerts, assemblies, and special events</li>
<li>Collaborate with music faculty to support the overall K-12 music program</li>
<li>Act as an advisor</li>
<li>Design and deliver engaging lessons that challenge and inspire students of all levels</li>
<li>Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment while maintaining a high standard of excellence</li>
<li>Oversee instrument rental program and repairs</li>
<li>Write student reports and stay in regular communication with parents</li>
<li>Exhibit professionalism, excellent organizational skills, and strong written and verbal communication skills</li>
<li>Participate in admissions and parent education events</li>
<li>Engage fully in Hewitt&rsquo;s commitment to implementing current research on girls in the classroom and beyond</li>
</ul><div>QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED</div>
<ul><li>Demonstrated commitment to anti-bias education and social justice</li>
<li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in music performance (string instrument) or music education</li>
<li>Minimum of three to five years of teaching experience in a classroom setting</li>
<li>Experience in ensemble conducting</li>
<li>Proficiency on all string instruments</li>
<li>Ability to arrange music based on the instrumentation of the ensemble and experience level of the musicians using music notation software such as Sibelius and Dorico.</li>

Starting Salary Range: $65,000 to $95,000 (salary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience and expertise)<br>

 <b>POSITION PURPOSE: </b>To create and maintain a positive, stimulating environment for students to promote a culture of learning. Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students. Prepare, administer and evaluate tests and classroom assignments following curriculum guidelines. Guide and counsel students with adjustment and/or academic difficulties, or special academic interests.<br>

<b>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:</b>
<ul><li><div>Teaches courses in music appreciation, harmony, explorations in music, and in instrumental music and/or choral music.</div>
</li><li><div>Plans a balanced music program, and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.</div>
</li><li><div>Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the pupil. Encourages pupils to develop individual musical skills to the greatest extend possible.</div>
</li><li><div>Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages of skill levels of pupils.</div>
</li><li><div>Maintains surveillance over school-owned music, robes, uniforms, musical instruments and equipment in order to prevent loss or abuse. Makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required.</div>
</li><li><div>Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment during individual practice, group rehearsals, and musical performances.</div>
</li><li><div>Plans, rehearses, and directs pupils in musical programs for school and community.</div>
</li><li><div>Maintains professional competence through in-service education workshops provided by the district, and/or in self-selected professional growth activities related to music.</div>
</li></ul><b>ADDITIONAL DUTIES:</b> Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.<br>

<b>QUALIFICATIONS:</b>
<ul><li>Must have a valid South Carolina teaching or be able to obtain one within 60 days from being hired.</li>
