The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing an excellent customer experience in a team based environment while assisting in all aspects of medical practice under the direct supervision and responsibility of a physician or physician assistant. This position is responsible for patient safety, performing phlebotomy, point of care testing, assisting in minor procedures, processing lab specimens, safe operation of medical equipment, provides patient instructions, and for handling and administering medications according to regulatory standards and organizational policy and procedure under the direct supervision of a physician or physician assistant. This position is responsible for the collection, communication and documentation of accurate patient information/data and maintaining medical records according to regulatory standards and organizational policies and procedures. Other responsibilities include coordinating requests for information and prescriptions, maintain and preparing patient care areas to ensure efficient, effective and safe patient care delivery. Late hours, holidays and weekends may be required. Other duties as assigned by the Manager/Supervisor of the department.<h2 class="jobSectionHeader">
Requirements</h2>
Education:
High School Diploma or GED Required. Completion of a medical assisting program or postsecondary medical assisting program accredited to prepare the medical assistant to take national CMA (American Association of Medical Assisting), CCMA (National Health Career Association), or RMA (American Medical Technologists) medical assistant certification exam preferred. 
Experience:
Medical Assistant experience preferred but not required for graduates within 2 years completion of a medical assisting program or postsecondary medical assisting program accredited to prepare the medical assistant to take the national CMA (American Association of Medical Assisting), CCMA (National Health Career Association), or RMA (American Medical Technologists). 
1 year of Medical Assistant experience in a physicians office or hospital outpatient

Job Description Summary:</h1>
Assist physicians with medical procedures in office. Responsible for phlebotomy, laboratory testing, quality control, instrument troubleshooting, and maintenance.<h1 class="jobSectionHeader">
Primary Key Performance Areas:</h1><ul><li>
Responsible for performing proper quality control procedures before proceeding with patient testing.</li><li>
Perform laboratory blood work.</li><li>
Perform blood draws Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing. Perform technical laboratory procedures in a timely manner with accuracy and precision, meeting the standards of all accrediting and regulating agencies.
</li><li>Prepare blood or bone marrow slides for evaluation.</li><li>
Send outside labs to appropriate facility as dictated by patient&rsquo;s insurance plan.</li><li>
Maintain test report logs, quality control logs, equipment records, and checklists according to all regulatory agencies.</li><li>
Will follow the AON patient I.D. policy and procedure with every patient encounter.</li><li>
Obtain vital signs, height, weight, pain level and PHQ9 depression screening of patient as requested by physician and document in the Onco/EMR system.</li><li>
Place patient in exam room and prepare for physician in a timely manner.</li><li>
Receive lab reports via the telephone, lab system, or fax and document in the patient&rsquo;s chart or Onco/EMR for physician&rsquo;s review.</li><li>
Assist physicians with medical procedures: bone marrows, fine needle aspirate, paracentesis, and pelvic exams.</li><li>
Schedule outside testing, referrals to other physicians and hospital admissions as ordered by physicians, if applicable.</li><li>
Documentation: Thorough documentation in medical record chart of testing/treatment rendered to patients. Prepares encounter form to charge patient for services received in office or initials all steps in process in EMR for electronic superbill. Documents all QC and QA corrective action.</li><li>
Show physician critical blood counts according to guidelines.</li><li>
Obtain all pertinent scan and CDs and prepare for physician&rsquo;s review.</li><li>
Maintain adequate inventory of supplies. Place orders with purchasing as needed.</li><li>
Initiate troubleshooting procedures when instrument malfunction occurs and contact central lab or instrument service company, if necessary.</li><li>
Perform EKG testing where applicable.</li><li>
Perform any and all duties required to keep laboratory in compliance with state and federal regulatory agencies. Must be able to perform compliance testing.</li><li>
Must take the required number of CEUs annually to meet C.O.L.A. requirements.</li><li>
Observe established safety guidelines and maintains cleanliness of the laboratory and equipment.</li><li>
Comply with all Federal and State laws and regulations pertaining to patient care, patients&rsquo; rights, safety, billing, and collections. Adhere to all AON and departmental policies and procedures, including IT policies and procedures and Disaster Recovery Plan. Maintain and ensure the confidentiality of all patient information at all times.</li><li>
Assist in training new employees to related job duties.</li><li>
Will be expected to work at any AON location to help meet AON business needs.</li><li>
Will be expected to work overtime when given sufficient notice of required overtime.</li></ul>
