<div>POSITION SUMMARY
The Infection Preventionist Nurse This individual is accountable for decreasing the incidence and transmission of infectious diseases between patients, staff, visitors and the community. Through strategic planning, leadership and consultation, you will lead and direct a robust team in the identification and implementation of infection prevention goals and objectives throughout the facility.
The Infection Preventionist reports to the Director of Nursing and partners with the Medical Director and Pharmacist for Antimicrobial Stewardship, the QA Committee, and other stakeholders to develop a system of care that promotes sound and scientific infection prevention principles and practices.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Partners with facility leaders, physicians, local, state, and national agencies on activities related to infection prevention</li><li>

Participates in the national collaboratives and external reporting to CDC NHSN system, and other post-acute care specific quality organizations</li><li>
Authority and responsibility for ensuring appropriate intervention and education occurs with staff, volunteers and medical staff when healthcare infection trends, outbreaks or non-compliance to infection control/OSHA are</li><li>
Ensures that education and counseling on infection prevention is available for staff, volunteers, medical staff, patients and</li><li>
Support and participate in interdisciplinary performance and quality improvement</li><li>
Maintains current knowledge of federal, state and local regulations and ensures that the facility leaders are informed of appropriate issues. Understands and complies with infection control, safety and OSHA procedures and</li><li>
Partnering with department directors in providing in-service training, facility hygiene to recognize and mitigate workplace conditions related to infection control and relevant safety programs.</li></ul>

The Infection Preventionist supports the development, implementation, and sustainment of infection prevention and control practices across the organization. This role applies knowledge of infection prevention and control principles, epidemiology, regulatory requirements, and evidence-based practice to reduce the risk of infection transmission and support a safe environment for patients, staff, clinicians, and visitors. Essential Job Functions<ul><li> 
Infection Prevention and Control Operations</li></ul>
Assists in implementing and supporting the Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) program throughout the organization. 
Identifies infectious disease processes and supports strategies to prevent and control the transmission of infectious agents. 
Performs surveillance and investigation activities using epidemiologic principles to identify and classify events, indicators, measures, and outcomes.

POSITION SUMMARY 
This position assists the supervisor in organizing and directing the activities of the infection control program for all departments throughout a facility or ambulatory setting, including surveillance, infection prevention and control measures, and education for employees. 
 
CORE FUNCTIONS 
1. Conducts focused surveillance for healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), detects and records HAIs on a systematic and current basis, analyzes HAIs and prepares reports for the Infection Control Committee of the facility or ambulatory setting. Reports communicable diseases as required by regulation. 
 
2. Makes recommendations when problems are identified. Interprets department policies and procedures in conjunction with the supervisor. 
 
3. Interacts with physicians, nurses, department managers, supervisors, and other professional and non-professional staff members as a consultant. 
 
4. Enters data into computer, prepares reports, conducts analytical studies and summarizes surveillance data. 
 
5. Initiates epidemiological investigations of significant clusters of infections and single cases of unusual infection. 
 
6. Assists with continuing infection control education and inservice programs to departments, including orientation for new employees. 
 
7. Reviews and assists with evaluation of hospital policies, procedures and guidelines as they relate to infection control. Assists in writing and revising infection control policies and procedures. 
 
8. Makes recommendations regarding construction, renovation, environmental rounds, and assures compliance with national and/or professional standards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 
 
Requires a current RN license with BSN preferred, OR Masters in Public Health (MPH), OR certified medical technologist, OR a bachelor's degree in healthcare related field.
After completing 2 years as a full-time FTE or 4 years as a part-time FTE or 4 years as a BSS in the position and attaining Infection Prevention work experience, the Staff Infection Preventionist will have 6 months to achieve the Certification of Infection Control (CIC).
Infection Prevention Team members working primarily in an acute or ambulatory job location will be expected to maintain an active Basic Life Skills certification. 
Must have a minimum of two years clinical experience in a hospital setting or disease surveillance experience in a public health setting.

</li><li>Develop and update isolation techniques and procedures in accordance with current standards of practice, rules and regulations. Participate in maintaining policies and procedures which provide for a program of preventive medicine for hospital personnel to include establishment of policies and procedures relating to exposure to infectious diseases and prevention of cross-contamination. Recommend and evaluate procedures or policy statements relating to infection prevention/control within TCRHCC; maintain an updated reference manual on infectious diseases and hospital infection control as recommended by The Joint Commission.
</li><li>Evaluate the effectiveness of the surveillance plan and modifies as necessary.
</li><li>Report all in-house patients with communicable disease to the Tribal, county and/or state health departments and maintain appropriate records. Compile and interpret surveillance reports to Infection Prevention committee, specialty areas, nursing and executive medical committee on a regular basis. Select indicators based on the projected use of the data. Plan and participate in the budget process.
</li><li>Participate in quality/performance improvement activities by assessing, monitoring, and measuring hospital-acquired infections and evaluating outcomes on a continuous basis. Reports any interference for the implementation of infection control practices
</li><li>Assist in the organization of regularly scheduled Hospital Infection Prevention and Epi-Response team meetings and dissemination of recommendations hospital-wide.

Develop effective and relevant teaching tools appropriate in scope and complexity for the internal audience. Serve as a knowledgeable and available resource on infection prevention/control practices and policies to patients, families, staff, and health system employees. Maintain a knowledge base of current infection prevention and control information through peer networking, internet access, published literature and professional meetings.</li><li>
Participate in continuing educational activities at the department, state, and national levels to promote professional growth and maintain a current knowledge base commensurate with latest research and scholarly knowledge.
