During the past 60 years, UNHCR and the Turkish State&rsquo;s Institutions have been working together in close partnership in international protection field. In 2013, T&uuml;rkiye adopted a new legislation, the Law on Foreigners and International Protection (LFIP) and established a central civilian authority in charge of procedures for foreigners. As the main partner of the Turkish State in the field of international protection, UNHCR T&uuml;rkiye provides support to the Presidency of Migration Management (PMM) and the relevant national institutions.

UNHCR Representation in T&uuml;rkiye operates through a Country Office based in Ankara, and through sub-offices and field offices in Gaziantep, Istanbul, Izmir, and Ankara, as well as field units.
<br>
<br>
Purpose and Scope of Assignment:
<br>
<br>
The Interpreter will engage in the EU funded project, &ldquo;Supporting T&uuml;rkiye&rsquo;s International and Temporary Protection Processes&rdquo;. UNHCR is the implementing agency of the project which aims to enhance quality and efficiency international protection procedures, provide technical and operational support to PDMMs and PMM while supporting improved access to protection and services. Within this framework, the Interpreter will be responsible for translating all project-related materials to and from English and Turkish, ensuring that every document&mdash;such as training materials, guidelines/SOPs, event reports, and other project outputs&mdash;is available in both languages. S/he will ensure that all translations are accurate, consistent, and aligned with the project&rsquo;s technical terminology and objectives.

The Interpreter will serve as a member of the Protection Unit and report to the Associate Protection Officer, under the overall supervision and oversight of the Senior Protection Officer, Head of Unit. S/he is expected to:

<br>
<ul><li>Translate project-related written materials to and from English and Turkish, including training materials, guidelines/SOPs, event reports, meeting minutes, technical documents, presentations, and other materials produced under the project.
</li></ul><br>
<ul><li>Provide interpretation during project meetings, workshops, trainings, field visits, technical discussions, and consultations with PMM, PDMMs, and other project counterparts, whenever required.
</li></ul><br>
<ul><li>Assist the project team by ensuring that all written and oral translations reflect appropriate technical terminology.
</li></ul><br>
<ul><li>Maintain an organized system for managing translated documents to ensure timely delivery.
</li></ul><br>
<ul><li>Perform other duties directly related to the translation and interpretation needs of the project, as required.

Monitoring and Progress Controls

The incumbent will receive guidance from the Senior Protection Officer in the operation and will be under the direct supervision of the Associate Protection Officer. UNHCR Manual, Operations Plans, UN, and UNHCR financial/budgetary rules and regulations will guide the work of the Senior Protection Associate. S/he is expected to stay abreast of the challenges posed to the region by the political context, the UN and humanitarian reform, and institutional developments. A performance evaluation will be completed covering the duration of the contract.

Required qualifications, language(s) and work experience:

Education: Bachelor's or equivalent in interpretation, literature or any other relevant field is required.
<br>
<br>
For IC4 - 1 year relevant experience with a High School Diploma, or Bachelor's or equivalent or higher.
<br>
<br>
Language Required: Turkish and English are required
<br>
Desirable: Any other UN language
<br>

<b>General Notes</b> <p>The Department of Internal Medicine at the Dell Medical School is looking for a Designated Healthcare Interpreter.</p><p></p> <b>Purpose</b> <p>The designated healthcare interpreter interprets all aspects of patient care and academic practice between patients, clinicians, and departments. The primary function of the Interpreter is to provide interpretation between signed and spoken language to a deaf physician in all areas of the physician's work, including but not limited to: clinical, education, research, academic, and administrative settings. The interpreter works to relay information accurately and completely in compliance with all clinical site policies and procedures, particularly relating to patient confidentiality and informed consent, as well as the Code of Professional Conduct and Code of Ethics as set forth by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf and the Board for the Evaluation of Interpreters.</p><p></p> <b>Responsibilities</b> <ul><li> Interpret for Deaf and Hard of Hearing clinicians in their interactions with patients, families, trainees, care providers, and other hospital personnel in all settings and areas of the physician's work </li><li><p>Interpret complex and/or sensitive medical and personal information, including diagnostic and surgical procedures, medical histories and medical, social and psychological assessments, and diagnostic and treatment plan development.</p></li><li><p>Meet regularly as scheduled by deaf physician to assist in coordination of schedule for language access services in all settings and areas of the physician's work</p></li><li><p>Work as a team with other interpreters when needed.</p></li><li><p>Communicate with UT, and partner hospital-related faculty, staff, trainees, and visitors as necessary</p></li><li><p>Enhance community outreach through partnerships and collaboration with local, state, regional, and/or national interpreting and healthcare organizations</p></li><li><p>Maintain position-related documentation (e.g., time logs, professional development, academic activities)</p></li><li><p>Engage in professional development activities (e.g., BLS, professional CE activities) as necessary to maintain appropriate credentials</p></li><li><p>Undergo health care maintenance (e.g., annual PPD, annual influenza vaccine) as necessary</p></li><li><p>Read and respond to electronic mail in a timely manner</p></li><li><p>VA-specific needs.</p></li><li><p>Other related duties as assigned.</p></li></ul><p></p> <b>Required Qualifications</b> <p>Minimum of current RID and/or NIC and/or Texas BEI certification. Highly developed sense of discretion in dealing with confidential information. Ability to multi-task and work well in a fast-paced, stressful environment while maintaining confidentiality. Professional appearance and demeanor. History of regular and punctual attendance in the workplace. The Interpreter consistently will work in high-level, high-stakes circumstances, and must possess advanced proficiency with medical concepts and terminology, in both lay and professional language, and in both spoken and signed modes. Interpreters without an academic degree may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. </p><p></p> <b>Preferred Qualifications</b> <p>Bachelor's degree.
