Job Summary and Qualifications</h5> 
Cath Lab Technicians are Cardiovascular Technologists who work in our facilities and run tests on heart health. They assist with the insertion of catheters into the heart and are responsible for measuring and administering special fluids. 
What you will do in this role: 
 
 
<ul><li>Under the general supervision of the Cath Lab Supervisor and the CV Services Director, the Cardiac Cath Lab Technologist, in cooperation with the physicians and nursing personnel, assists with diagnostic and therapeutic invasive cardiology patient procedures in the catheterization labs.
</li><li>Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of radiographic imaging, patient physiologic monitoring and cardiac arrhythmias recognition.
</li><li>Complies with principles of sterile techniques.
</li><li>Collects and assembles data for database, outcome analysis and performance improvement.
</li><li>Responsible for carrying out any other activities assigned by the Cath Lab Supervisor or CV Services Director to ensure the department runs effectively and efficiently.
</li><li>The Cath Lab Tech must participate in the on-call rotation and respond within 30 minutes to the Cath Lab when on call.</li></ul> 
What qualifications you will need: 
 
 
<ul><li>Graduate of an accredited Radiology Technologist program or Invasive Cardiovascular Technology program preferred.
</li><li>Two years of current experience in Cath lab may be substituted for completion of Radiology Technologist program or invasive cardiovascular technologist (CVT) program completion.</li><li>
Current BCLS certification required within 30 days of start date and maintained.
</li><li>ACLS certification required within 6 months of employment.
</li><li>Active RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist) or RT licensure preferred.
</li><li>If a new Invasive CVT graduate, must attain credential within 1 year of eligibility date.</li><li>
One year of experience in Cath lab, or equivalent clinical experience as part of educational program.
</li><li>OJT with current 10 years or more of experience may be substituted for completion of Radiology Technologist program, Invasive Cardiovascular Technology program and RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist).</li></ul>

General Statement of Duties:
The Cardiac Cath Lab Invasive Specialist- Certified plays multiple roles on the Cardiac Cath Lab team as the Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist during Cardiac Catheterization procedures. In both roles he/she demonstrates technical proficiency in all Cardiac Cath Lab procedures and equipment; applies anatomical and physiological knowledge to proficiently assist the Cardiologist or Electrophysiologist with providing cardiac patient care. As the Invasive Specialist he/she maintains good communication with the Cath Lab team to ensure proper equipment set up, accurate monitoring, and quality data collection.
Minimum Education, Experience, Training, Required Knowledge, Skill, Abilities and Other Job-Related Characteristics:
1. Education and Experience: All of the following: &bull; High School graduate or GED
2. New hires as of 6/1/2013 have to have ONE of the following:<ul><li>
One (1) year fulltime Invasive Cardiovascular Technology experience.</li><li>
An Associate Degree or equivalent college hours (62 semester hours) in health, science, natural science, nursing, engineering or any primary science or higher.</li><li>
Graduate of an accredited (by CHEA, USDOE, or CMA) program in Invasive Cardiovascular Technology.</li><li>
Graduate of a NON-Programmatically accredited program in Invasive Cardiovascular Technology which has a minimum of one (1) year of specialty training and includes a minimum of 800 clinical hours.</li></ul>
3. Employee completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service line, facility and department/unit which are specific to the needs of the patient population served (if applicable). Includes specific competency in:<ul><li>
Diagnostic Cardiac Catheterization</li><li>
Peripheral Angiography</li><li>
PTCA, Stent implantation</li><li>
Aspiration/Extraction devices</li><li>

6. Preferred: Baccalaureate in health, science, natural science or nursing, engineering or any primary science AND six (6) months of (fulltime or fulltime equivalent) in Invasive Cardiovascular Technology.
Minimum License, Certificates, or Registrations Required:
1. Required (must hold one of the following credentials):
ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) OR
2. Must have ONE of the below listed certifications: Current certification eligible Cath Lab Technicians must successfully pass RCIS/RCES exam in 24 months from start date.<ul><li>
RCIS (Registered Cardiac Invasive Specialist) from CCI (Cardiovascular Credentialing International)</li><li>

3. Certified Surgical Tech or Registered Respiratory Therapist OR

Essential Job Functions:
1. Demonstrates technical proficiency for all cardiac catheterization procedures while functioning in a primary role as a Cardiac Cath Lab Invasive Specialist.
2. Consistently and correctly identifies cardiac structures, coronary vasculature, and the associated disease processes.
3. Practices radiation safety and observes all principles to ALARA. This includes a good knowledge of all regulations and requirements set forth by the Texas Bureau of Radiation Control and the Methodist Radiation Safety Committee and the proper use and storage of personal radiation badge.
4. Assists the physician in obtaining or entering data into the Physiologic Monitoring System(s) for accurate assessment of left and/or right-sided Hemodynamic pressure measurements. Assures accurate information is gathered or entered for the calculation of intra-cardiac shunts, valve areas, and pressure measurements throughout the catheter path.
5. Accurately reports Ejection Fraction by demonstrating proficiency in the assessment of Cardiac function, utilizing Left Ventricular Analysis program(s). Understands the disease processes that result in depressed Cardiac function such as: Coronary Artery Disease, Cardiomyopathy, Myocardial Infarction, Valvular disorders, etc.
6. Consistently assures that Angiographic and procedural data is properly archived for long-term storage. Verifies the presence of all components of procedure information in both hard copy and computerized formats.
Additional Job Functions:
1. May have access to contrast agents and other non-controlled medications as appropriate to diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
2. Takes &ldquo;Call&rdquo; on a rotating basis.

Cath Lab Tech

Bryan Health

Performs general equipment cleaning and stocking. Prepares machines and other equipment for sonographer use. Performs diagnostic electrocardiograms as well as cardiac monitor placement. Cleans and processes transesophageal probes.
 
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 
1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
 
2. *Participates in identifying and reporting patient safety issues.
 
3. *Assists cardiovascular sonographers and coordinators as requested.
 
4. *Cleans, disinfects and sterilizes all cardiac and vascular equipment (ultrasound machines, ultrasound probes including transesophageal probes, ECG equipment, etc.), following current infection control guidelines.
 
5. *Performs diagnostic electrocardiograms, signal-averaged electrocardiograms, flight physical electrocardiograms, and holter and event monitor applications in accordance with established departmental policies.
 
6. *Takes calls from account hospitals for "Stat" overreads; contacts Cardiologist 24/7 for urgent interpretation.
 
7. *Receives event monitor transmissions of ECG strips and contacts Cardiologist for "Stat" overreads.
 
8. *Recognizes and reports "Discrepancy ECG".
 
9. *Prepares unconfirmed ECG's for cardiologist overread.
 
10. *Transcribes cardiologist overreads, creating a confirmed ECG; distributes copies of confirmed ECG.
 
11. *Performs routine equipment maintenance.
 
12. *Transports patient and/or equipment, alone or with assistance, in bed, wheeled cart or wheel chair to designated area.
 
13. Informs supervisor of any institution or equipment concerns.
 
14. Maintains a safe working environment.
 
15. May deliver medications received on unit to the appropriate patient, RN, physician, medication drawer or medication storage place.
 
16. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
 
17. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 
High school diploma or equivalency required. Current progress towards a cardiovascular sonography degree required. Courses related to cardiovascular field at post-secondary level required including ECG course. Basic Life Support (CPR) with AED certification within three (3) months of hire required. Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Job Description: 
 
Assists physician during diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular, electrophysiology or peripheral vascular procedures, including circulating, scrubbing, monitoring and hemodynamic monitoring/recording. Follows department policies to maintain a safe, efficient environment while caring for the patient. 
 
Principle Responsibilities<ul><li>
Effectively operates laboratory equipment<ul><li>
Prepares and operates equipment within department, manufacturer and federal guidelines.</li><li>
Performs quality control and basic troubleshooting as needed.</li><li>
Promptly reports all equipment problems to appropriate source.</li></ul></li><li>
Performs scrub role activities<ul><li>
Ensures a safe and sterile environment for the patient.</li><li>
Practices aseptic technique, maintains sterile field and reports/corrects any breaks in sterile technique.</li><li>
Prepares the equipment and competently assists the physician during the procedure.</li><li>
Understands the anatomy and physiology of the conduction system, and associated intra cardiac electrocardiographic signals.</li></ul></li><li>
Assists physicians in monitoring/circulator role<ul><li>
Detects and responds to changing patient conditions, observing EKG, blood pressure, and other electrograms.</li><li>
Performs complete diagnostic and provocative pacing protocols under the direction of the physician.</li><li>
Differentiates basic and complex arrhythmias and assists in mapping.</li><li>
