Job Summary<ul><li>
The Landscaper I provide landscape maintenance support to a variety of industrial, commercial, and public properties. This position involves performing basic landscaping tasks under supervision, supporting the safe operation of commercial-grade landscaping equipment, and assisting with the maintenance of plant materials and other landscape features.</li></ul>
Duties and Responsibilities:<ul><li>
Cut turf using various-sized power mowers, trimming, and edging using a gas-powered edger/trimmer, and operating a gas-powered blower</li><li>
Prune shrubs and low trees as needed to improve the shape or growth habit, or to remove damaged branches</li><li>
Plant and maintain flower beds</li><li>
Operate the edger and line trimmer along sidewalks, flower beds, trees, buildings, fences, and other objects</li><li>
Pick up trash and blow leaves and other organic debris onto the turf before mowing.</li><li>
Mulch the leaves and organic matter when mowing</li><li>
Perform weeding by hand or using a garden hoe or hula hoe</li><li>
Perform basic, preventative maintenance to extend the life of equipment</li><li>
Properly remove trash, dead plants, and suckers from the landscape</li><li>
Maintain a polite, friendly, responsive demeanor with guests and customers</li><li>
Report unsafe conditions to the Crew Leader as appropriate</li></ul>
Education and Experience:<ul><li>

Certified on level 1 equipment (backpack blower, stick edger, string trimmer, walk-behind mower)</li><li>
Familiar with basic horticultural maintenance operations/practices</li></ul>
Physical Demands/Requirements:<ul><li>
Ability to lift and carry 40 lbs. (mulch, fertilizer, etc.)</li><li>
Ability to load/unload burlaps with plant cuttings onto trailer (up to 50 lbs.)</li><li>
Be at least 18 years old (21 if operating company provided vehicles)</li><li>
Possess strong stamina and have the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions including extreme heat and cold.</li><li>
Able to safely operate landscaping equipment (e.g., mowers, trimmers, blowers, edgers).</li><li>
Able to bend, stop and twist continuously throughout the day and perform manual labor using a variety of hand tools (e.g. shovels, rakes)</li><li>

Job Description
 
OVERVIEW: 
Construction laborers range from semi-skilled to skilled workers whose duties include, but are not limited to, handling the materials for irrigation, planting, and construction. Laborers are generally needed on virtually all types of landscape projects. A laborer must know how to work efficiently with their hands and with tools such as shovels, rakes, and wheelbarrows. Construction laborers may also work with irrigation materials and small engine machinery. Construction laborers assist in clearing and grubbing, hand grading, digging plant holes, trenching and cleaning trenches, gluing pipe, running wires, backfilling and covering pipe, spreading decomposed granite, keeping sites clear and clean, and performing a variety of other functions when requested.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
Education: High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
 
Experience: At least 2 years of experience in construction or landscape.
 
Language skills: Ability to communicate effectively in English or Spanish.
 
Math skills: Basic math skills preferred but not required.
 
Physical requirements: Ability to lift, pull, and push up to 50-80 lbs., carry materials, bend, twist, kneel, climb, and balance. Ability to walk at a brisk pace and work in a kneeling position for extended periods of time. Ability to work in the rain and in extreme temperatures. Ability to withstand dust, pollens, and gas fumes on a daily basis.
 
Other: Ability to understand and follow oral instructions. Ability to arrive on time to work and to work an 8-hour day. The ability to transport to the office in Phoenix. Ability to respond appropriately to supervisors and co-workers. Although typical workdays are Mon-Fri, you must be able to work the occasional weekend.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT: 
Construction laborers work primarily outdoors but may occasionally work indoors. Laborers may work above ground or underground. A certain amount of strength, dexterity, and alertness is necessary due to proximity to equipment, tools, and other trades. Because laborers work in so many varied conditions, they must be knowledgeable of the hazards and safety requirements of each and every project.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
