Law clerks serving more than two years may be moved to senior law clerk status. This is professional legal work performed for the Honorable Judge Cunningham of the 13th Judicial District in Billings, Montana. This position's start date is January 2nd, 2026.</li><li>
Work involves the performance of professional legal research and other related clerical/administrative work in the preparation of memoranda, opinions, or orders for a judge concerning the cases before him/her. Work is performed under general supervision of a judge and is reviewed through conferences and written reports.</li><li>
Reviews, studies, research, and annotates laws, court decisions, documents, opinions, briefs, and related legal authorities.</li><li>

<li>Receives and processes referring court records from the trial court. Maintains the referring court record server. Transmits records to litigants. Processes and returns records upon mandate.</li>
<li>Accepts and processes payments via cash, check, and credit card for court fines, fees, filing fees, and bonds. Reconciles cash drawer and income daily and prepares the daily deposit.</li>
<li>Responds to customer's inquiries via phone, email, and voice mail. Acts as liaison between division/Judicial Officer and customers, directs parties to correct location and/or divisions, de-escalates situations of stress or conflict, and explains court processes without providing legal advice.</li>
<li>Trains within trial court/appellate court procedures.</li>
<li>Issues orders and notices from the court, including orders regarding case deadlines, orders of extension of time, notices of new case filings, notices of oral argument, receipt of trial court records, and mandates returning authority to a trial court once case is complete. Ensures service to all necessary litigants and trial/appellate courts.</li>

The Office of the Minnesota Attorney General is currently seeking three Spring Law Clerks to work directly with Assistant Attorneys General across all divisions of the Office, and gain hands-on experience reviewing documents, researching legal issues, drafting written product, and appearing in court. This position allows law students to develop professional skills and expand their knowledge while performing meaningful and challenging work on a wide variety of issues. We require our law clerks to assume a significant amount of responsibility over their files and put forth the very best work on behalf of the public.
</p><p>Applicants should be prepared to work 20 hours per week during a ten to twelve-week period beginning in January. Law Clerks receive a salary of $20 per hour. This position is eligible for a hybrid work environment (combination of in-office and telework).</p>
