JOB DESCRIPTION
<br>Primarily responsible for the supervision of juveniles certified as adults and pending trial who will be housed in the Juvenile Detention Facilities pursuant to further orders of the court or in some instances a certified juvenile may be transferred to an Adult Detention facility by order of the court.
<br>RESPONSIBILITIES
<br>1. Provides direct day-to-day supervision to juveniles in a 24-hour detention/jail facility in manner that ensures the health, safety and welfare of each youth.
<br><br>
2. Provides intervention techniques to all juveniles to promote and increase personal awareness of responsibilities and alternatives.
<br><br>
3. Provides critical sound judgment and decisions during crisis or potentially dangerous situations, conducts crisis intervention, and notifies the supervisor of concerns.
<br><br>
4. Disciplines juveniles by enforcing the rules of the facility/jail, monitors behavior and other specific information and forwards to appropriate personnel. Accurately documents juveniles’ behavior and activities in observation logs and incident reports.
<br><br>
5.Enters data into AIS–adult system as well as coordinating hearings in the adult court, communicates with clerks of the courts, and possibly District Attorney and Public Defenders.
<br><br>
6. Serves as back-up to staff and assumes all duties as necessary, i.e., administering medications, transporting youths to appointments, processing intake assessments or discharges, and disciplining youths. Must be physically able to perform “handling with care techniques, including takedowns, chasing and restraining youth” as outlined in the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) requirement.

7. May transports juveniles to and from appointments.

8. Conducts routine inspections, rounds and drills, which include room checks and pat down searches of juveniles.
<br><br>
9. Performs other duties as assigned.
<br>QUALIFICATIONS
<br><br>
<b>Education, Experience and Training:</b><br>
Education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Criminology, Corrections, Counseling, Law, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Cultural Anthropology, Business Management, Public Administration, or in a job related field of study. Two (2) years of work related experience.
<br><br>
<b>Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:</b><br>
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments and the general public. Must be certified as a JSO within 180 days of hire date. Must have current Red Cross First Aid/CPR certification or obtain within 90 days of hire. Must maintain 40 hours of training yearly. Proficiency in using word processing, spreadsheet and database software. Must be certified as required by applicable standards of the facility/department assigned. Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license, with a good driving record. Must pass an extensive background investigation. Mandatory drug testing prior to employment and will be subject to random, unannounced drug and/or alcohol testing during employment. The employee will also be subject to shift changes based on the needs of the facility.

<li>An employee may be transferred to another department, shift, location, or facility based on the needs of the Department.</li>

<b>Physical/Environmental Requirements:</b><br>
Works inside a secured facility with potential exposure to hepatitis, tuberculosis, lice and other diseases. Ability to appropriately apply approved physical restraint technique. May be required to utilize vehicle to transport youths.

</b></h2><p>The purpose of this position is to assist in the oversight of Juvenile Community Supervision agencies who receive state general funds through a grant process. This position coordinates and conducts fidelity and quality assurance reviews of juvenile community supervision agencies; providing feedback and recommendations to ensure fidelity to evidence-based principles and compliance with KDOC operating standards. This position will work with other division staff to ensure juvenile supervision agencies implement quality assurance practices in accordance with their annual comprehensive plans and in compliance with policies, procedures, statutes and regulations, etc. Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with Directors, staff, advisory board members and other community agencies/partners is necessary in this position.</p><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:</b><b>
</b></h2><p>In conjunction with other division staff, provide, across all agency levels, the feedback, coaching, modeling, training and other support necessary to help juvenile supervision agencies increase their capacity to engage in fidelity and quality assurance practices, including:</p><ul><li>
Develop and implement a plan to conduct fidelity and quality assurance reviews/audits of all juvenile supervision agencies</li><li>
Developing and maintaining necessary review/audit tools</li><li>
Scheduling and conducting on site and/or remote reviews/audits</li><li>
Preparing reports from reviews/audits, with recommendations</li><li>
Reporting findings</li><li>
Taking steps as directed by supervisor to follow up on recommendations</li><li>
Preparing aggregate reports regarding findings in audits, and recommendations.</li></ul><p>
Assist in reviewing juvenile supervision agency grant applications, including:</p><ul><li>
Receiving the application and preparing team for review</li><li>
Analyzing the plan and prepare feedback</li></ul><p>
Assist the Director of Grants and Quality Assurance in data collection and analysis; in reporting on trends and progress; in providing updates; in carrying out on site meetings, trainings, and statewide conferences; and otherwise supporting recidivism-reduction capacity-building in juvenile supervision agencies and the department.</p><p>
In conjunction with other division staff, perform an annual review of the Community Supervision Standards for Juvenile Intensive Supervised Probation and Community Case Management programs; present recommended changes to the Director of Grants and Quality Assurance and the Director of Community Based Services; implement approved changes.</p><p>

The mission of the Division of Youth Services (DYS) is to protect, restore and improve public safety utilizing a continuum of care that provides effective supervision, promotes accountability to victims and communities, and helps youth lead constructive lives through positive youth development. The strategic goal of DYS <i>is to operate healthy trauma-responsive organizational environments as demonstrated through prosocial, safe, and non-violent interactions.</i></div><div></div><div><br>
DYS provides a continuum of services that encompass juvenile detention, assessment, commitment and parole. DYS is the agency statutorily mandated to provide for the care and supervision of youth committed by the District Court to the custody of the Colorado Department of Human Services. The Division operates 15 secure facilities that serve youth between the ages of 10 and 21, who are pre-adjudicated, sentenced, or committed. For pre-adjudicated youth, the Division is also responsible for the management and oversight of the Colorado Youth Detention Continuum; a State-funded, locally administered program that provides services to youth at risk of further progressing into the juvenile justice system. In addition to residential programming, the Division administers juvenile parole services throughout the State. About the position:</b><br>
This position is a direct care/essential role that provides direct and engaging supervision of Youth in DYS State Operated Secure Facilities. Specific duties and expectations are: Safety/Security, Youth Center Programming, Documentation/Recording and Reporting, Training, and Organizational Accountability. Positions may be required to work overtime on a rotating basis, based on business needs.<br>

Safety/Security</b>. Work involves providing direct care, safety, security, and supervision of adjudicated and/or pre-adjudicated youth in a secure setting. Monitor, participate, support, and enforce behavioral management plans for individual youth as directed (e.g. Behavioral Contracts, Individual Growth and Change Plans). Duties include supervision of youth or group of youth, supervision of daily activities, youth orientation, intervention in crisis situations, non-escalation, de-escalation, use of physical response/restraint in emergency situations, debriefing of all incidents, and conducting searches.</div><div></div><div><b><br>
Youth Center Programming</b>. Actively and with positive engagement, implement and follow the Youth Center&rsquo;s behavioral management program, teach, coach, and redirect youth within the program. Support DYS initiatives and strategies as they relate to youth programming and crisis intervention.</div><div></div><div><b><br>
Documentation/Recording and Reporting</b>. Document observations of youth behavior and response to program(s) and document all unit activities and required information in appropriate logs and records systems. Document all youth group activities in appropriate database systems.</div><div></div><div><b><br>
Organizational Accountability. </b>Through all communications and behaviors demonstrate, support, and contribute to a healthy, positive, and respectful cultural climate throughout the Youth Center by adhering to our organizational values of Nonviolence, Open Communication, Social Responsibility, Growth and Change, Social Learning, Democracy, and Emotional Intelligence. Requirement to adhere to the CDHS Code of Conduct, DYS Compliance Review Standards, and CDHS and DYS policies. Training.</b> Complete DYS Pre-Service training academy, Youth Center training, and orientation process as a new employee. Some travel may be required. Correctional Officers fill a critical role within correctional institutions by working together as a team to maintain safety and control of offenders. This position is in the new medical institution located in Lexington Kentucky.<br>
<br>
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
<ul><li>Maintains control of the institution to provide safety and security of the facility inmates, staff, and general public by enforcing rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
</li><li>Supervises inmate activities in housing units, dining areas, recreation and work areas.
</li><li>Attends to the medical, visitation, personal property, and recreational needs of the inmates.
</li><li>Inspects and patrols the grounds for contraband, unauthorized personnel, and for other security risks.
</li><li>Completes required reports and daily logs.
</li><li>Conducts inmate counts, security rounds, and searches.</li></ul>
The ideal candidate for this position will have:
