Maintain a safe, clean, professional environment to the youth and families of Jasper County.</p><p><b>Duties and Responsibilities</b></p><ul><li>Supervise activities of juvenile detainees.</li><li>Supervise the daily chores assigned to the youth, such as cleaning, laundering of detention clothes/bed linens and other laundry as needed, recreational activities, meal classroom periods, on a 24 hr. basis.</li><li>Supervise telephone calls and visits by family members.</li><li>Escort youth to designated areas in the facility when necessary.</li><li>Must help in the providing of meals for juveniles.</li><li>Apply CPI restraining techniques (training provided) when necessary.</li><li>Attend to the Control Room , including telephones , monitors, electronic door systems, intercoms, radios, visual monitoring of detainees sleeping units/ movements, and maintain Activity Logs of such.</li><li>Maintain the general cleanliness and order of the secure detention area, and provide for proper placement of all equipment and supplies.</li><li>Assure proper maintenance of all equipment, including radios, chargers, intercoms, etc.</li><li>Meet training/ certification requirements as prescribed by the Jasper County Youth Detention Facilities management and attend all mandatory staff meetings/ training sessions.</li><li>Maintain a healthy and professional appearance by wearing a clean, assigned uniform (provided) that will pass inspection requirements.</li><li>Keep physically fir to carry out the duties of a detention officer.</li><li>Preform all intake procedures to include but not limited to search and personal property documentation.</li><li>Submit Incident Reports and other reports on a timely basis.</li><li>Computer requirements needed for this job include but are not limited to Microsoft Office, Excel, secure Case net, knowledge of and ability to use the statewide Juvenile Information System( JIS training provided.</li><li>Understand and use mandatory reporting of child abuse and neglect system.</li><li>Any additional duties assigned by the Detention Superintendent , or Supervisors</li></ul><p><b>Qualifications</b></p><ul><li><b>Must be at least twenty-one years of age with a High School Diploma or GED</b>.</li><li>Preference given to candidates with college degrees/ credits or Associate&rsquo;s Degree in the area of Child Development, psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice or related fields.</li><li>Minimum of 1(one) years&rsquo; experience in a youth- related program.</li><li>Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.</li><li>Ability to handle stressful situations with courtesy and good judgement</li><li>Create and maintain a positive image and rapport with youth, law enforcement officials, co-workers and the public.</li><li>Pass drug/alcohol test prior to and as a condition of continued employment.</li><li>Meet physical standards in a post job offer physical examination.</li><li>Must have no criminal or child abuse/neglect history. The officer shall provide services to and supervise assigned juveniles and their families under the auspices of Title III Texas Family Code and departmental policies. The field officer will be responsible for the assessing the individual treatment needs of each probationer and assigning the appropriate level of supervision to ensure the child&rsquo;s accountability and rehabilitation. The field officer will be responsible for developing a treatment plan designed to meet the individual needs of each probationer and their family, ensuring their compliance with the plan and updating all plans according to policy. Field officers will monitor children to ensure their compliance with all court orders and report to the court any violations.

  Essential Duties

   Receive assigned incoming juvenile referrals and make personal contact with the juvenile within 5 working days of receiving the assigned case.
  </li>
  <li>
   Determine appropriate action for each referral based on case facts of the offense, child's history, familial status, assessment instruments, progressive sanctions and departmental policy.
  </li>
  <li>
   Refer juvenile to appropriate service agencies within 2 weeks of determination of needs. Ensure their needs are identified in their case plan.
  </li>
  <li>
   After consultation with the Assistant Probation Supervisor make detention/release decisions in accordance with Title III Texas Family Code.
  </li>
  <li>
   Maintain current, accurate statistical information on caseworker system regarding each child. Ensure that each contact with child, parent, school, placement, and all secondary contacts are documented in caseworker within 5 working days of the contact.
  </li>

   Conduct initial interview within 10 working days of receiving all assigned cases, complete all required supervision and agency referral paperwork.
  </li>
  <li>
   Complete individual case plan and CSE-IT on all official probationers within 30 working days of case disposition. Reassess individual case/program plan every 30 days or when there is a change in the program or needs while the child is under supervision with child and family. Reassess individual CSE-IT no less that once every six months or when there is new information gathered. Conduct Case Plan Reviews within 15 calendar days after a child&rsquo;s probation is modified or a Courtesy Supervision is received.
  </li>
  <li>
   Update all changes (school, phone number, addresses, etc.) in JCMS and maintain accurate, current documentation in chronological order in dictation section of files. Ensure that each contact with child, parent, school, placement, and all secondary contacts are documented within 5 days of the contact.
  </li>
  <li>
   Provide counseling, crisis intervention and assessment/referral to all youths and families, as needed, assigned to your caseload. Provide informal supervision, pre-court supervision and regular probation supervision to children in accordance with risk assessments and the supervision and merit system.
  </li>
  <li>
   After consultation and approval of the assistant probation supervisor, file violations of probation and new referrals with the Criminal District Attorney&rsquo;s office in a timely manner. File petitions with CDA on children in detention in accordance with the 15/30 day filing deadline. All other cases should be filed within 10 working days.
  </li>

   Take juveniles into custody according to policy.
  </li>
  <li>
   Restrain residents who are out of control, damaging property, and/or presenting a danger to themselves or others. Utilize non-violent physical restraint methods and mechanical restraints as warranted in accordance with departmental policy. Submit written report of mechanical restraint usage to assistant detention superintendent within one hour of usage, unless restraints are used for transporting residents.
  </li>

   Recommend disposition of adjudicated youth to the juvenile court following progressive sanctions guidelines, as well as assessment of court fees, probation fees, restitution and support fees.
  </li>
  <li>
   Ensure all ordered fees are collected. Inform your supervisor in writing quarterly when the child is not meeting their ordered financial responsibilities.
  </li>
  <li>
   Maintain files in an orderly fashion according to file maintenance policy (i.e. sectional content, labels, etc.), including electronic uploading

   Maintain current information form on each child. Ensure that information is accurate and corresponds with dictation section.

   Prepare all other reports, applications, billing and statistical information as required.

When identified on a position description, a valid driver&rsquo;s license is required. If initially hired with an out-of-state license, the Florida resident must obtain a valid Florida state driver&rsquo;s license within 30 days of hire. Licenses suspended or revoked for any reason, work permits (Business purpose/Employment/education only licenses) and some types of restricted licenses are not acceptable. Licenses that have Corrective Lenses Restriction are acceptable, provided the driver wears corrective lenses while operating the vehicle.</div>

Positions that include the transportation of youth while performing any work or work-related functions on behalf of DJJ, require: (1) a valid driver&rsquo;s license; and (2) a three-year acceptable driving record as defined in FDJJ Policy 1920.</div>

Successful candidate must be certified in accordance with State of Florida Department of Juvenile Justice direct care training policy or obtain such certification within 180 days of employment. In order to obtain certification, the candidate must attend and successfully complete a mandatory residential training academy located in Quincy Florida. Such certification must be maintained.</div>

For those candidates who are not currently in the state system as a direct care worker for DJJ at the time of application, the top-ranking candidate(s) after the interview phase will be required to take and pass Ergometric's IMPACT Assessment and Training Test in order to be considered for this direct-care employment opportunity. This test will be used to measure the candidate's overall suitability for working with Juvenile Justice involved youth. Test results will be used for a period of six months after initial testing for candidates who reapply during that period for another position for which testing is required.</div>

985.66 Florida Statute Requirement</b></div>

Be at least 19 years of age.</div>

Be a high school graduate or its equivalent as determined by the department.</div>

Not have been convicted of any felony or a misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement or have received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States. Any person, who after September 30, 1999, pleads guilty or no lo contendere to or is found guilty of any felony or a misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement is not eligible for employment, notwithstanding suspension of sentence or withholding of adjudication. Notwithstanding this subparagraph, any person who plead no lo contendere to a misdemeanor involving a false statement before October 1, 1999, and who has had such record of that plea sealed or expunged is not ineligible for employment for that reason.</div>

Abide by all provisions of s. 985.644 (1), regarding fingerprinting and background investigations and other screening requirements for personnel.</div>

Execute and submit to the department an affidavit-of-application form, adopted by the department, attesting to his or her compliance with sub paragraphs 1-4. The affidavit must be executed under oath and constitutes an official statement under s. 837.06. The affidavit must include conspicuous language that the intentional false execution of the affidavit constitutes a misdemeanor of the second degree. The employing agency shall retain the affidavit.</div><p>
