Responsibilities:

The Senior Counsel is responsible for the provision of legal advice regarding various legal matters of The Johns Hopkins Health System Corporation (&ldquo;JHHS&rdquo;) and its affiliates. It includes responsibility for the interpretation of laws and regulations specific to assigned practice group. This position also assists the General Counsel and the Deputy General Counsel, as needed. The Employment and Labor Affairs Practice Group provides legal advice and opinions to The Johns Hopkins Health System Corporation and its affiliates. Overall responsibilities are to inform clients of rights and obligations under employment and labor laws; monitor, review, and comment on proposed legislation; review and draft policies and procedures; negotiate, review, and draft various types of agreements; develop and facilitate training; represent clients before governmental agencies, in court, or during arbitration proceedings; lead, facilitate, or serve on multidisciplinary committees; develop strategic positions and review or propose courses of action; manage union avoidance activities in coordination with local labor relations offices. Senior Counsel is also responsible for advancing the professional development of practice group members.</p>
<p><i>
Role Accountabilities Include:</i></p>
<ul>
<li>Representing clients before various local, State, and federal regulatory agencies regarding administrative charges or complaints filed by employees.</li>
<li>Developing and providing training to human resources staff, management and executives regarding compliance with all employment, labor laws, including but not limited to the Family Medical Leave Act, Fair Labor Standards Act, American&rsquo;s With Disability Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, as well as other laws impacting corporate employers.</li>
<li>Drafting and negotiating, severance, settlement, non-compete, non-disclosure, non-solicitation, and other agreements.</li>
<li>Reviewing, drafting and updating human resources and other corporate policies and procedures.</li>
<li>Directing and reviewing all internal investigations of alleged violations of fair employment laws and all investigatory reports.</li>
<li>Participating in the internal investigation resolution committee and overseeing follow-up with committee recommendations</li>
<li>Providing legal opinions and guidance to insure clients understand obligations they must meet to comply with labor and employment-related laws and regulations.</li>
<li>Reviewing and drafting proposed legislation.

<li>Preparing clients to testify at depositions and before administrative agencies.</li>

<p><b>Qualifications:</b></p>
<ul>
<li>A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school. Continuing legal education involving legal seminars, review and study of legal periodicals and review of judicial decisions and legislative enactments and pronouncements.</li>
<li>Ten (10) years of related or relevant experience, including seven (7) years of legal practice as a licensed attorney. Of the total experience, five (5) years should include demonstrated leadership responsibilities such as managing projects, assigning work, or leading teams.</li>
<li>Member in good standing of the Maryland Bar or other jurisdiction; and eligible to become licensed to practice in Maryland or Florida.</li>
<li>Employment, labor or HR experience of the healthcare industry or health services administration preferred</li>
