</b></p><p>The UW Medicine - Department of Laboratory Medicine &amp; Pathology (DLMP) in Seattle, WA has a fantastic opportunity for a <b>Clinical Laboratory Coordinator </b>with the <b>Anatomic Pathology Slide Room Team </b>at the University of Washington Medical Center &ndash; Montlake.
</p><p></p><p>Under general supervision, the Clinical Laboratory Coordinator performs critical tasks related to the Materials/Slide Room area of Pathology. Routine tasks include storing and archiving pathology materials, filling requests for materials internally and from external providers and facilities, and communicating material retention, storage, and release protocols with department members and other departments/facilities.

</b></p><ul><li><p>Maintain and secure Pathology slides and tissue blocks. Scan, sort, and file materials.
</p></li><li><p>Use Pathology software applications to send, retrieve, and track Pathology and outside institution slides and blocks.
</p></li><li><p>Use Pathology software applications to investigate, locate, and document materials and inquiries/requests. Perform four daily runs to distribute material to labs and pathologies.
</p></li><li><p>Use spreadsheets, word processing, and database software to develop and maintain records.
</p></li><li><p>Deliver materials to residents, faculty, and other areas of the department as scheduled or as needed.
</p></li><li><p>Prepare Pathology material for transport via established courier runs.
</p></li><li><p>Process, track, and return all consult materials to originating institutions. Archive Pathology materials according to retention policies and retrieve/return archived materials as necessary.
</p></li><li><p>Process requests for additional materials from other institutions at the request of Pathology faculty and trainees. Create invoices for send-out material/FedEx.
</p></li><li><p>Answer the Materials Room telephone in a professional manner and direct calls as appropriate. Respond to requests for information regarding Pathology materials, reports, and Materials Room operations.
</p></li><li><p>Interact professionally and communicate appropriately and clearly with physicians, office management, and office staff in DLMP and other departments/institutions.
</p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Notify supervisor of problems and help supervisor with investigations and resolutions.
</p></li><li><p>In conjunction with supervisor, develop documentation and process improvements for areas of responsibility.
</p></li><li><p>Archive surgical slides and block for pervious and current year.
</p></li><li><p>Perform other duties as assigned.

<div><div><p>Under the supervision of the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Quality Systems Division Director, we are seeking a Coordinator for Laboratory Communication and Document Control. They are accountable for managing, maintaining, communicating and continuously improving controlled laboratory documentation to support safe, standardized, and compliant laboratory operations. This role partners closely with laboratory leadership, technical teams, Pathology Informatics, and multidisciplinary stakeholders to ensure policies, procedures, and supporting documents accurately reflect current practice, regulatory requirements, and system‑wide standards.</p><p>
The coordinator facilitates workgroups, leads document‑related improvement initiatives, and applies Lean and quality management methodologies to evaluate current workflows, identify risks, and drive standardization. Prepares and maintains POC operating procedures to meet accrediting and regulatory requirements and in PALM-approved standardized format. Collects quality data to plan and lead educational efforts to facilitate awareness and to implement improvements. May assist caregivers and other healthcare workers in the development of staff training and ensure accrediting and regulatory compliance for (POC) laboratories.</p><p><b>
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</b></p><p>

Clinical Coordinator - Laboratory - Full Time 8 hours Days (7:00AM to 3:30PM) (Non-Union, Non-Exempt)

<div><p>At NorthBay Health, The Point of Care Coordinator reports directly to the Laboratory Director and the Medical Director or designee. This individual maintains a current knowledge of federal and state laboratory laws and regulations. S/he develops, participates in and oversees the Quality Management activities required by the clinical laboratories at NorthBay MedicalCenter and VacaValley Hospital. These activities include performance improvement, safety, and accreditation readiness. The required quality activities include responsibility for laboratory and point of care procedures, record retention and documentation in order to meet the standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies. This position will also ensure the laboratory is following hospital safety rules and regulations by overseeing the laboratory safety program and as a liaison to the hospital safety program.
</p><p>This individual must be fiscally responsible, be able to take on new responsibilities as needed, be able to accept accountability and operate effectively under pressure, display confidence and integrity and maintain a sense of humor. Must be able to use critical thinking skills, make independent judgment based on knowledge of laboratory medicine and disease processes while also working as an effective member of a team. Promotes collegial relationships based on mutual respect and support. Participates in multidisciplinary teams within the organization. Represents the Supervisor or Director during his/her absence.</p></div>
<br><div><p><b>Education: </b>B.S. degree and graduation from an approved school of medical technology. Master degree and quality certification preferred.
</p><p><b>Licensure: </b>State of California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License. ASCP or equivalent desired. Meets state and federal requirements for supervising the performance of high complexity laboratory testing as outlined in CLIA 88 and the State Title for Laboratories.
</p><p><b>Experience: </b>Six years as a registered technologist in an acute care hospital desired. Quality experience preferred. Demonstrates supervisory and leadership skills.
</p><p><b>Skills: </b>Demonstrates initiative, follow through and ability to work independently. Demonstrates effective project management skills and a results-oriented management style <b>. </b>Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills. Must have basic medical terminology, typing, math and excellent computer skills. Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skill in providing appropriate care for patients in the following age groups: Geriatric, Adult, Young Adult, Pediatric and Neonatal.

</b></p><p>NorthBay Health uses a structured compensation framework. Staff-level positions use a step-based system (Steps 1&ndash;5) based on years of directly related experience, with Step 5 representing 20 or more years of experience in the role. Manager level and above positions are paid a fixed annual base salary and are eligible for a variable incentive compensation plan. Physician compensation is structured based on specialty and role requirements.

Position Summary</b></p>

Performs various tests in the medical laboratory. Work encompasses abilities in discrimination between entities, correction of error, laboratory techniques, instruments, and confirmation of results using knowledge within specialty areas. May use knowledge consistent with interdependency of test results. Performs various degrees of quality control and instrument maintenance related activities. Performs various duties as assigned or required for the interdependent function of the section/laboratory. Job requires knowledge, skill, and ability to provide care for a neo-natal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric population.</p>

Responsibilities</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Prepare specimens for analysis and may be responsible for establishing chronological priorities in testing.</li>
<li>Conducts routine clinical laboratory tests within assigned section. Rotates between or among assigned sections.</li>
<li>Record test results according to established procedures and reports results; refers abnormal test results and/or problems to the Clinical Laboratory Scientist Coordinator for review.</li>
<li>Maintains equipment through making minor adjustments and running known controls to verify accuracy of test results. Notifies Clinical Laboratory Scientist Coordinator regarding serious equipment malfunctions. Refers all quality control data to Clinical Laboratory Scientist or to Clinical Laboratory Scientist Coordinator.</li>
<li>Assist the Clinical Laboratory Scientist Coordinator in demonstrating testing procedures and equipment to new employees.</li>
<li>Perform complex tests, in one or more sections of the department, on clinical specimens for diagnostic purposes, records and reviews test results for accuracy, records and plots known control values from technical instruments to insure reliability and accuracy in reporting of test results.</li>
<li>Perform routine as well as emergency maintenance on and calibrates instruments in assigned sections.</li>
<li>Keep current regarding developments in technical instrumentation and trends and techniques in medical laboratory testing.</li>
<li>Participate in the development and implementation of laboratory testing procedures as requested.</li>
<li>Assume charge &quot;tech&quot; scientist duties on afternoon and/or evening shift, as assigned.</li>
</ul>
<p><b>Requirements</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Job requires knowledge, skill, and ability to provide testing care for a neo-natal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient population.</li>
<li>Computer skills are necessary.</li>
<li>Must possess visual acuity to distinguish fine graduations of color and to closely examine specimens micro and macroscopically and possess manual dexterity sufficient to work with small instruments and delicate equipment.</li>
<li>Must be registered or registry eligible as MLS, or a Medical Lab Technologist (MLT)</li>
<li>Must have some analytical ability to resolve technical problems, relate test results to normal health state, and to the presence of diseases or other conditions, which may alter test results. Interprets quality control data.</li>
<li>Must possess equivalent of a Bachelor of Science degree in medical technology (biology, chemistry or biochemistry), which includes successful completion of a supervised course of clinical internship in an approved hospital laboratory or equivalent years of training and experience.</li>
<li>Work requires three to six months of on-the-job training to acquire necessary familiarity with department policies and procedures and testing protocols within assigned section.</li>
<li>Maintains certification in CPR.</li>
<li>LMH is accredited by DNV and TJC, and as such, may require specific annual education related to specialty certifications and standards.</li>
