JOB SUMMARY
As a Landfill Equipment Operator, you will be responsible for inspecting incoming loads for compliance with waste management regulations, operating heavy machinery like dozers and compactors, and assisting with manual labor as needed.
To succeed in this role, you'll need to operate heavy equipment efficiently and understand basic maintenance practices. While experience with compactors is advantageous, it's not required. We seek individuals who can quickly learn, pay attention to detail, and follow instructions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Inspect incoming loads for unauthorized waste and complete load inspection reports.
Enforce safety protocols throughout the landfill.
Perform heavy manual labor when necessary.
Report safety or compliance incidents to supervisors.
Pick up litter and assist with litter fence management.
Follow oral and written instructions while working independently.
Operate heavy farm and landfill equipment, such as dump trucks, bush hogs, and skid-steers.
Operate heavy earth-moving equipment like excavators and bulldozers.
Complete daily equipment inspection reports electronically.
Identify repair needs and perform minor maintenance on equipment.
Suggest improvements for operational efficiency.
DESIRED SKILLS
High school diploma or GED
Experience in a related field is preferred
Experience operating a compactor is a plus!
REQUIREMENTS

Supervises Landfill Operators I, II, and III. 


Capable of supervising multiple facility operations.

Environmental Factors: 


The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibrations, hazards, atmospheric conditions and oils. The worker may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and infectious agents and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment. 


Special/Additional Requirements: 


Subject to a complete criminal history background search and drug screening with acceptable results.

What You&rsquo;ll Do

Landfill Operations and Grounds Maintenance
<ul>
<li>Operate the following equipment, including conducting pre- and post-trip</li>
<li>inspections and cleaning/maintaining as appropriate: water truck, off-road truck, loader, hydro-seeder and other equipment as necessary</li>
<li>Visit identified locations and collect and record pump data using paper forms or other technology when available</li>
<li>Walk the Granger grounds, including the landfill and the main public road, picking up loose trash</li>
<li>Shovel dirt as needed in the landfill area</li>
<li>Seed and lay erosion control materials in prepared areas.</li>
<li>Shovel snow and apply ice melting material by hand and mechanical spreader.</li>
<li>Assist crew in plastic pipe welding and placement in trenches.</li>

Recycling Center
<ul>
<li>Operate the following equipment, including conducting pre- and post-trip inspections and cleaning/maintaining as appropriate: forklift to weigh and stack bales and load semi-trailers, skid steer to manage materials, baler, conveyor belt and other equipment</li>
<li>Operate roll-off truck to service Recycling Center and Disposal Center containers.</li>
<li>Guide vehicles entering and exiting the Recycling Center</li>
<li>Perform housekeeping duties in the building and outside areas</li>
<li>Perform production duties, as directed, for the sorting and processing of recyclable materials, such as cardboard, paper, plastic, glass, tin and aluminum</li>
