New Mexico State Police (NMSP) serves our state as the premier law enforcement agency. Our mission begins with establishing partnerships and relationships within our communities that mitigate and prevent crime. The NMSP Communications Bureau provides 911 dispatching services to NMSP and various partnering agencies throughout the state. It provides emergency and non-emergency service response to the citizens and visitors of New Mexico. We have three Communications Centers across the state where dispatchers receive, evaluate, and transmit information via telephone and multi-channel radio that frequently involves emergency and critical situations affecting human welfare and safety. This position is based in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
 
The starting hourly wage for a non-certified dispatcher (Associate Public Safety Dispatcher) is $22.94. The hourly wage for certified dispatchers with 2-9 years' experience is $25.67, 10-17 years' experience is $26.40, 18-24 years' experience is $27.13 and 25 years or more is $27.89 an hour. Certified dispatchers may receive extra compensation for having a degree or certain certifications.

Under general supervision, to learn to receive and dispatch routine and emergency radio and telephone communications; to dispatch law enforcement, emergency medical, and other public safety personnel and equipment; to maintain field communications during incidents; to learn to serve as Public Safety Answering Point for the 911 System for unincorporated areas of Siskiyou County; to process warrants; to perform general office support assignments; and to do related work as required. This classification is a for cause, non-exempt position.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is the entry and first working level in the Communications Dispatcher class series. Incumbents have responsibility for dispatching and maintaining field communications with public safety personnel. Incumbents also process warrants and perform a variety of office support responsibilities. Communications Dispatcher I=s perform many assignments in a training and learning capacity. When an incumbent becomes familiar with the Sheriff/Coroner Department and the dispatching systems and policies and demonstrates good sustained work performance, they may be promoted to the Communication Dispatcher II. Incumbents in these positions will be expected to work ten hour shifts. Work shifts may rotate.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS 
This is the second level in the Communications Dispatcher class series. The incumbent has responsibility for dispatching and maintaining field communications with public safety personnel. Incumbents also process warrants and performs variety of office support responsibilities. This class is distinguished from Communications Dispatcher I in that incumbents perform a greater scope of assignments requiring more in-depth knowledge of County dispatching and Emergency 911 Systems. It is distinguished from Sheriff Communications/Dispatching Coordinator in that Sheriff Communications/Dispatching Coordinator performs supervisory, staff scheduling and training activities as well as dispatching duties. Incumbent in this position will be expected to work ten hour shifts. Work shifts may rotate.
