POSITION SUMMARY:

Jewish Family Services of Greenwich seeks a motivated and compassionate Staff Attorney to join its Immigration Legal Services Department. Under the direct supervision of the Director of Immigration Legal Services, the Staff Attorney will provide immigration legal services to clients and support the continued development of a compliant, high-quality nonprofit immigration legal services program.

This position is ideal for an early-career attorney seeking supervised experience in nonprofit immigration law within a mission-driven organization. The role is in-person and will require the attorney to work at our Greenwich, CT office. 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

<ul><li> Provide direct legal representation and assistance in immigration matters, including:</li></ul>

&sect; Family-based immigration petitions

&sect; Naturalization and citizenship

&sect; Adjustment of status and consular processing

&sect; Humanitarian relief, including asylum, Temporary Protected Status (TPS), VAWA self-petitions, U visas, and T visas
<ul><li> Conduct client intakes, legal screenings, and consultations</li></ul>
<ul><li> Prepare and file immigration applications, legal memoranda, affidavits, and supporting documentation</li></ul>
<ul><li> Represent or assist clients before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS); any EOIR court practice will be consistent with attorney licensure and organizational authorization</li></ul>
<ul><li> Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential client files in accordance with EOIR standards and organizational policies</li></ul>
<ul><li> Communicate clearly with clients regarding eligibility, risks, timelines, and case progress</li></ul>
<ul><li> Collaborate with attorneys, interpreters, and social service staff to provide holistic, trauma-informed services</li></ul>
<ul><li> Participate in community outreach, legal clinics, and Know Your Rights presentations</li></ul>
<ul><li> Assist with case tracking, data collection, and grant reporting requirements</li></ul>

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
<ul><li> Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school</li></ul>
<ul><li> Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. state, or eligibility for admission within a reasonable time frame</li></ul>
<ul><li> 0&ndash;2 years of immigration law or related legal experience (including clinics, internships, or fellowships)</li></ul>

Job Description
The Staff Attorney, under the supervision of the Directing Attorney, will provide all general Staff Attorney duties and will work collaboratively with other staff to provide exceptional legal services in all areas of federal Indian law. In addition to these general responsibilities, 50&ndash;75% of their time will be dedicated to implementing grant-funded initiatives that expand access to legal services in bankruptcy, estate planning, and mobile homeowner rights. The role requires close coordination with program leadership to meet project goals, ensure compliant reporting, and support the development of sustainable long-term service capacity for Tribal communities. In addition to project-based work, the attorney will contribute to client development efforts and collaborate with staff across the organization to strengthen legal services delivery.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Bankruptcy, Estate planning, Mobile homeowner rights (50&ndash;75% of role)<ul><li>
Provide consultations and direct legal services; prepare legal documents and filings.</li><li>
Conduct community education presentations.</li><li>
Support homeowner-focused outreach efforts.</li><li>
Strengthen relationships with community organizations to expand awareness and improve service delivery.</li><li>
Primary lead for meeting assigned project deliverables that support increased access to legal services, prevention of displacement, preservation of homeownership, and the development of sustainable long term service capacity in these issue areas.</li><li>

General Staff Attorney Duties<ul><li>
Provide legal services in federal Indian law, environmental law, and expungement of criminal matters.
</li><li>Provide legal services unique to the Eastern Field Office: senior legal services, simple probate avoidance, civil legal aid, tenant rights/eviction defense, consumer rights, and public benefits.</li></ul>
Client Development &amp; Community Engagement<ul><li>
Develop and maintain strong relationships with Tribes and Tribal organizations in the service territory, including all funding sources.</li><li>
Ensure the office pursues and secures meaningful opportunities to work with Tribes, Tribal organizations, and Native American individuals throughout the service territory.</li><li>
Support client development tied to all CILS funding sources (grants, contracts, donations, etc.).</li></ul>

Essential Duties and Responsibilities<ul><li>Travel to and work in the Central Islip, Long Island office is required to meet client and organizational needs.</li></ul>

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)<ul><li>Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited US law school or international equivalent.</li></ul>

 The Maryland Coalition Against Sexual Assault (MCASA) is Maryland&rsquo;s sexual assault coalition and includes the State&rsquo;s rape crisis centers and others concerned with ending sexual violence. Our mission is to help prevent sexual assault, advocate for accessible, compassionate care for survivors of sexual violence, and work to hold offenders accountable.

This position, along with the rest of the agency, will entail significant virtual work and allows for flexible scheduling.
 
 
 Employees are expected to be available to travel to the MCASA office in Silver Spring within 90 minutes or live within the State of Maryland.  Position Overview
 
 
 
 SALI provides legal services to survivors of sexual violence, and technical assistance and training to professionals working with survivors. The Sexual Assault Legal Institute (SALI) is part of the Maryland Coalition Against Sexual Assault (MCASA), an organization devoted to ending sexual violence, equity, and justice.
 
 
 MCASA&rsquo;s SALI is looking for a full-time attorney to focus on legal representation and policy work related to schools and student survivors and/or child survivors of sexual assault and sexual abuse. Applicants should be passionate about anti-sexual violence work and eradicating discrimination in education. This position will focus on policy and practice in educational institutions, including colleges and universities, K-12, and technical schools, and/or increasing access to justice for survivors who were victimized when they were 17 years old or younger. The School Policy Staff Attorney will provide legal services to student survivors of sexual assault and assist in development and administration of SALI services, outreach, technical assistance, and training. This position works collaboratively with MCASA&rsquo;s training and outreach staff to ensure the needs of student survivors are addressed. The Children&rsquo;s Staff Attorney will provide legal services to child survivors of sexual assault and sexual abuse, including representation in both criminal and civil proceedings, referral to appropriate services, and safety planning. A significant portion of this position may be performed remotely. This position reports to a Senior Staff Attorney.

 Responsibilities And Duties

 Participate in efforts to improve systems responses to sexual violence in educational settings, including by:

 sharing information to help end sexual violence and support survivors.

 Conduct legal research and analysis, with a focus on laws governing school response to sexual violence and sexual violence prevention

 Provide community outreach, technical assistance, and training pertaining to student survivors, violence prevention, underserved populations, reproductive justice, and related issues

 Provide high quality and trauma informed legal services to survivors of sexual assault, with a focus on student survivors and/or child survivors of sexual assault and sexual abuse. Services include assessment and referral, legal consultation, and representation. Case types include Title IX administrative hearings, student misconduct administrative hearings, protective and peace order proceedings, victim compensation proceedings, victim/witness representation in criminal cases, representation in family court proceedings and other matters.

 Provide or assure provision of safety planning for survivors

 Maintain reasonable caseload in compliance with grant requirements and needs of office

 Review cases with SALI Senior Staff Attorney and seek assistance when needed

 Individuals holding a comparable position at the time of this posting and admitted to practice law in Maryland receive compensation ranging from $71,000-$75,000 and the salary for this position is expected to fall within this range for attorneys admitted to practice law in the past 5 years.
