DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS</b></div><div>

Library Assistant I is the entry level class in this library paraprofessional support series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents perform the more routine duties while learning County policies and procedures and becoming familiar with library systems and practices. This class is alternately staffed with Library Assistant II and incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency that meets the qualifications of the higher level class.</div></div><p></p>

</p><ul><li>Serves as first point of service for patrons entering the building or calling the library for assistance, referring to other departments as necessary. May encounter irate patrons or handle emergency situations.
</li><li>Assists with training and supervision of part-time library clerks. Serves as In-Charge staff in absence of Clerk III.
</li><li>Charges/Discharges library materials using an integrated library system, including Interlibrary loans, patron holds and Partnership library reserves.
</li><li>Routinely uses software applications, shelving classifications, internet, email, spreadsheets to complete daily tasks, utilizes Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), converts collections on-the-fly as necessary.
</li><li>Inputs and maintains patron data in automated circulation system. Maintains patron records. Issues library cards. Follows Patron Confidentiality Policy.
</li><li>Assists patrons paying for overdue fines and/or lost materials-handles cash, cash register, credit cards and equipment. Counts, reconciles and balances accounts, prepares daily deposits and monthly reports.
</li><li>Reroutes circulation materials to other branches. Routinely loads/unloads bins of library materials weighing up to 25 lbs. Receives, sorts and processes new, existing and/or donated delivery items.
</li><li>Routinely pushes loaded book trucks, searches shelves for missing or requested items, shelves books and other library materials, prepares items for the Hold Shelf.
</li><li>Receives/checks-in new periodicals, journals and newspapers, processes and maintains the collections. Weeds older or damaged materials.
</li><li>Attends and participates in staff meetings, Staff Development Day, committee meetings and training sessions.

The primary responsibility of the Access and Resource Sharing Assistant is to support the Interlibrary Loan team in facilitating access to materials for library users. This position includes Interlibrary Loan tasks such as borrowing request processing, customer service, and physical monography processing. With a primary focus on Interlibrary Loan borrowing activities, the Access and Resource Sharing Assistant will be responsible for using a variety of sources to verify citations, send requests to potential lenders, problem solve issues related to borrowing requests, and maintain a professional and courteous demeanor while providing high-quality customer service.</p>

RESPONSIBILITIES</b></p>

Borrowing Request Processing</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Processes Local Holding requests to either fill digital requests, route the requests to Lending or override the local holding.</li>
<li>Requests books, book chapters, articles and other physical or digital items for patrons.</li>
<li>Interacts with patrons and lending institutions to clarify request details.</li>
<li>Uses a variety of services to fill requests, including RapidILL, DOCLINE, Rapido, Florida State Partners, Alma Peer-to-Peer, ALA Email, External Systems and Open Access.</li>
<li>Searches a variety of databases, especially WorldCat, to verify and locate cited material.</li>
<li>Corresponds via phone or e-mail with libraries throughout the world to resolve borrowing issues.</li>
<li>Stays informed on current professional resource sharing topics related to copyright, Interlibrary Loan policies, updates, systems/software changes, and workflows.</li>
</ul>
<p><b>Monograph Processing:</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Processes ILL borrowing returns in ILL software and sorts materials for return shipping.</li>
<li>Assists Borrowing and Shipping Specialist with preparing items for patron use (banding).</li>
