 Job Summary
 The Marysville Library is recruiting for a Public Services Assistant I to perform basic public service and library support tasks to contribute to their effective operation, providing library services, spaces, and resources that are representative of diverse cultures and perspectives, intentionally inclusive, and accessible to everyone.
 This position will work a 15-hour per week schedule, including Monday evenings, Thursday mid-day shifts, rotating Fridays and Saturdays, and one Sunday in a 4-week rotation. Successful candidate may be required to adapt to future schedule and location changes depending on library needs

 GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIESThis position is responsible for direct public contact and clerical work in the Leon County Public Library system and assisting customers at Main Library, all branch libraries and outreach locations. Work involves, but is not limited to, providing patrons with courteous and prompt customer service; working at an information desk greeting customers, directing patrons, and monitoring the security entrance; answering the telephone, making public address announcements; and issuing library cards and voter registration applications. Assists with reshelving of materials in all formats. Assistant patrons with internet sign-in and time limits. Makes referrals to librarians for information inquiries. Skilled in accurate cash register procedures and financial transactions, including collection of state tax when necessary. Skilled in analyzing patron records and taking appropriate actions to resolve any question, conflict, or situation. Skilled in accurately handling all circulation transactions. Skilled in resolving difficult and delicate problems and issues using tact. Ability to provide excellent public service to a widely diverse clientele, often under the stress of many patrons waiting for assistance. Ability to understand very complex situations, interpret, and make correct decisions in application of library policies. Ability to work well as a team member, to have positive, supportive work relationships, and to present information in a clear, concise manner. Ability to learn and adapt quickly to changing procedures. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSRequires a high school diploma or an equivalent and one year of clerical, public service, or retail related work experience. Necessary Special Requirements: Must be able to push heavy bins and carts of books. Must be able to bend and lift books and materials repeatedly throughout work shift. Must be able to work days, evenings, and weekends.All Leon County employees (regular full-time and part-time, OPS, and PRN) are required to work before, during and after a Declared Local State of Emergency (DLSOE). The Library Desk Clerk provides customer service to library patrons, performs clerical work relating to the public services, and assists in other support tasks as assigned. The work schedule for this position is: Monday – 11:45AM-8:15PM; Tuesday – 4:15PM-8:15PM; Wednesday: 8:30AM-5PM; Friday – 8:45AM-6:15PM; Saturday – 8:15AM-4:15PM (Friday and Saturday shifts alternate and are scheduled on a rotating basis). These hours may change to meet the needs of the library.
 
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
 Provide high quality customer service to patrons in a confidential manner via various communication methods, and a focus circulation, technology and readers’ advisory.Perform functions related to the circulation of library materials such as check library materials in/out, library card registration, curbside service delivery, alphabetical and Dewey Decimal System sorting, collect fines and fees, and shelve library materials.Answer basic reference questions and refer more detailed inquires to professional staff.Participate in the maintenance of the library collection and inventory such as making minor repairs to library materials and equipment and bringing non-working or poor condition items to the attention of appropriate staff.Receive and process all incoming/outgoing mail, parcels and shipments. Complete opening and closing procedures as directed.Plan, prioritize, and organize workloads and assignments.
