The Supervising Librarian is the first supervisory level in the professional Librarian series. Incumbents are responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating and administering activities and staff required to accomplish major system-wide library service programs or functions or the operation of a large branch library. This class is distinguished from Library Division Manager in that the latter is the first management level with major division level administrative responsibilities. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

JCLS has a 16-step salary schedule with each step at 1.5%. The starting salary will be based on steps 1-5 on Grade N of the schedule. New hires are placed based on applicable education and experience to the job, as well as keeping within Oregon state pay equity laws. The starting range for this position is $28.31 to $30.08 per hour or $29,442 to $31,283 per year. Staff members who pass a Spanish language or American Sign Language competency test are eligible for a Bilingual Stipend per JCLS policy.

As a member of the Immigration and Citizenship Program, you will join an incredibly talented and hardworking division dedicated to assisting adult learners in the preparation for the naturalization interview and exam, helping people to advance Houston Public Library&rsquo;s impact in the Houston region.Reporting to the Coordinator of Citizenship Services, the Citizenship Instructor is responsible for providing education to adult learners to prepare for the USCIS naturalization interview, ESL instruction to adult learners preparing for the Civics and English Competency Exams, providing support, education, and connection to local resources. This position may require some evenings and weekends (Saturdays).Core Duties and Responsibilities:<ul><li>Provides quality instruction to adult learners who are interested in applying for citizenship.</li><li>Integrates meaningful classroom activities and valuable experiences that facilitates a student&rsquo;s learning goals and skills.</li><li>Supports Citizenship Program at assigned library locations by assuring that students are making level and gains, and by managing students in this program.</li><li>Travels to multiple Houston Public Library locations across a region of the Houston area to provide scheduled classes weekly.</li><li>Supports the Coordinator of Citizenship Services with data collection.</li><li>Supports Immigration and Citizenship Program with outreach activities.</li><li>Respond to inquiries, requests, and complaints as directed.</li><li>Perform other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Citizenship Services.</li></ul>Qualifications Education Required: A Bachelor's Degree in Education (K-12 Social Studies, English Language Arts, History, or Adult Education), Teaching, Social Work, or a related field.
