General Information:</b></p><p>
Library support staff perform a variety of duties that help the library serve its communities and help the patrons who visit library locations. The level of duty and responsibility assigned to an employee is related to their relative educational background and experience.</p><p>
Support staff may be required to perform any of the following duties:</p><ul><li>
Serving patrons with a strong customer support attitude at the library service desk, both in person and over the phone</li><li>
Processing library materials for distribution</li><li>
Assist co-workers and supervisors with special projects or programs, as assigned</li><li>

Working with the public daily. Position requires excellent customer service, oral and written skills.</p><p>This position requires strong computer skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The person in this position will often need to provide computer support for library users, including Windows, MAC, iOS, and Android devices.</p><p>Consistent, personalized customer service that follows library policy is a priority. The library assistant must be able to maintain a calm, professional demeanor when dealing with stressful situations.</p><p>Manual dexterity and physical ability to reach and shelve library materials, sort books, use software and a variety of media formats at a variety of heights is required. Sufficient vision, hearing and speech are essential to communicate with patrons and to assist them in locating materials, using computers or other office equipment. Must have sufficient hand eye coordination and manual dexterity to operate a personal computer and keyboard, telephone, and other office equipment.</p><p>Physical exertion will be required to lift library materials and other supplies from overhead and from the floor. Must have the ability to move around the library. Yakima Valley Libraries

<div><p>Yakima Valley Libraries is seeking four (4) temporary, part-time (15 hours per week) Library Assistant II candidates to join us this summer. The selected candidates will join us from May 18 through July 31 to support the library during its busiest time of the year.</p>

Library Assistant II - Substitute

<div><p>The primary responsibility of this position is to provide coverage at the Circulation Desk with minimal supervision, while providing outstanding customer service to all library users&mdash;including students, faculty, staff and alumni. Document and communicate any user experience issues/complaints to appropriate Supervisor(s) and Library Administration</li></ul><p><b>
Circulation and Systems Support:</b></p><ul><li>
Learn and utilize the Folio Library Services Platform to check in/out materials including Textbooks on Reserve, and search catalog.</li><li>
Assist patrons with placing holds, renewing materials, user record updates, and understanding borrowing policies.</li><li>
Reshelve returned materials and conduct regular shelf reading to ensure order.</li></ul><p><b>
Technology Assistance:</b></p><ul><li>
Troubleshoot and resolve basic computing, printing and scanning issues; ensure printers on all floors are supplied and operational.</li><li>
Provide assistance with print account access and printing procedures.</li></ul><p><b>
Facility and Safety Monitoring:</b></p><ul><li>
Monitor library spaces during shifts to ensure a safe, clean and respectful environment.</li><li>
Be aware of emergency procedures and report any incidents or facility issues to appropriate library and campus personnel.</li></ul><p><b>
Additional Responsibilities:</b></p><ul><li>
Be available to pick up open shifts when possible, especially during midterms &amp; finals.</li><li>
Perform closing/opening duties depending on assigned shift.</li><li>
Assist with library displays, signage, and events as needed.</li><li>
Perform additional duties as assigned by library staff.</li></ul><p>
