The Tax Litigation Division defends the State when it is sued by plaintiffs challenging their tax liabilities, unemployment benefits decisions and wage claim decisions. The Division represents the Comptroller of Public Accounts and the Texas Workforce Commission as its clients in these cases. Suits against the Comptroller often have millions of dollars at issue with large, well-known companies on the other side. TWC suits challenge employers&rsquo; unemployment tax liability as well as the agency&rsquo;s decisions on unemployment benefits and wage claims, which allow the opportunity for frequent court appearances. The Division&rsquo;s cases generally involve discovery into a plaintiff&rsquo;s business practices to determine whether their business model fits into the tax exemption they seek. Math is almost never involved, and tax experience is not required, nor preferred.</p>

<p>Full-time (35-40 hours per week), Legal Secretary/Assistant to Class Action Litigation Partners in Plaintiff Law Firm.</p><p>Candidate have strong organizational skills and attention to detail.</p><p>Position includes reviewing court rules and calendaring due dates for filings; setting follow-ups for tasks and communicating with attorneys on these items; drafting simple pleadings for attorney review (e.g. motions for extensions); saving emails and attachments in the appropriate file; formatting documents (including table of authorities and table of contents); preparing exhibits for filings; filing pleadings in state and federal court; client communication; handling payments of certain costs; tracking research assignments; locating items for attorneys in files as needed; attorney time entry; miscellaneous projects.</p><p>Candidate must be proficient in MS Office, Adobe Pro, and possess the ability to work with legal technology (court-filing systems, PACER, etc.)</p><p>Job Type: Full-time</p><p>Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour</p><p>Benefits:</p><ul><li>401(k)</li><li>401(k) matching</li><li>AD&amp;D insurance</li><li>Dental insurance</li><li>Disability insurance</li><li>Flexible spending account</li><li>Health insurance</li><li>Life insurance</li><li>Paid time off</li><li>Retirement plan</li><li>Vision insurance</li></ul><p>Work Location: In person</p>
