Trouble-shoot, maintain, repair, and install mechanical components and sub-components of cranes, conveyors, turntables, transfer tables, car wash machines, diesel locomotives, engines, and other heavy equipment/machines.</li><li>
Clean tools, equipment and parts with wire brushes, torches, and cleaning solvents.</li><li>
Inspect various equipment types for structural damage, integrity, and wear according to Federal Railroad Administration, Association of American Railroads and LIRR policies/regulations. Responsible for grinding, boring, cutting, bending, sizing, shaping, slotting, milling, planning, sanding, fabricating, and filing of various machine and engine parts. Will operate grinders, borers, drills, sanders, lathes, and milling machinery.</li><li>
Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, shop drawings, technical manuals, and other written documentation in the completion of assigned tasks.</li><li>
Inspects various engine fluids for viscosity and presence.</li><li>

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p><br>
<ul><li>Operate basic machining equipment such as lathes, mills, and drill presses under the supervision of experienced machinists.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics to understand project specifications.</li></ul>

<ul><li>Ability to shape metal parts to close tolerances and perform standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds of machines, fittings, and assembling parts into mechanical equipment.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Secure the job site at the end of the shift to minimize the risk of loss or theft.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Knowledge of how to properly handle and store all hazardous materials.</li></ul>
