<div>PEN America, a nonprofit organization working at the intersection of literature and human rights, seeks a dynamic and results-oriented program manager of U.S. journalist safety to lead our work supporting journalists and media professionals, as well as their allies and employers, amidst an increasingly hostile environment for press freedom in the U.S. This is a full-time, union-eligible position based at PEN America&rsquo;s New York City headquarters; applicants based in Washington, D.C. will also be considered. The position reports to the Director of Digital Safety and Free Expression in the Free Expression Programs department. This position has an initial 12-month term subject to extension contingent on funding. 
 
The program manager will drive forward our work to support journalists and media professionals, as well as their allies and employers, in the face of online abuse, threats, and other intimidation tactics in the U.S. by managing and growing our journalist safety training program, including leading trainings and giving presentations; expanding our engagement with impacted audiences in the media sector; strengthening existing partnerships and forging new ones; following current developments in safety, press freedom, and digital rights; and coordinating with colleagues focused on policy and advocacy. The program manager will have opportunities for public speaking, travel, and relationship building in the media and digital rights sectors. 
 
The ideal candidate will be passionate about journalist safety and press freedom, deeply committed to making online spaces safer and more equitable, possess an understanding of intersectionality, and be attuned to safety challenges in an era of rapidly evolving technology and growing hostility to the press. The position requires: an energized, highly organized, and collaborative work style; the ability to navigate complex questions about identity, harassment, and free expression; and the drive to strengthen PEN America&rsquo;s impact in the media sector. 
 
All positions are subject to a five-month trial period and assessment. In alignment with PEN America&rsquo;s current policy, all applicants should be available to report to the office at least three days per week. 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Defense News and Military Times publications seek interns for our 2024 internship program. We&rsquo;re looking for students and recent graduates with experience writing and reporting who will work with our news team on daily coverage of the defense industry and military/veteran affairs. Our ideal candidate will have published articles to submit. This is a rare opportunity for candidates looking to practice journalism that focuses on business, national security and the concerns of military service members, veterans and their families. You will be assigned byline stories to report and write for publication on our sites and in our print editions. You&rsquo;ll also support larger team-reporting projects.
 
 
 Our editors value accuracy, clarity, and a good story. There are opportunities to work with our video team and on audio projects for candidates with the right skills. Daily News Reporter/Journalist Are you a curious, go-getting journalist with a passion for our community?Local Daily Media is seeking a daily news reporter/journalist for our local news publication, Port City Daily (PCD).We are seeking a motivated candidate who is passionate about journalism, thrives in a fast- paced environment, and is able to adapt in the ever-changing world of digital production.Duties:<ul><li>Conduct research and interviews</li><li>Write multiple news articles/features daily</li><li>Build professional relationships within the communities that we serve</li><li>Shoot photographs and/or videos to accompany written pieces</li><li>Provide content for presentation on a variety of digital platforms (WordPress, social media, etc.)</li><li>Work independently to meet deadlines and exceed expectations</li><li>Maintain regular communication with the editor regarding creative planning and performance</li><li>Attend meetings</li><li>Other duties as assigned</li></ul>Requirements:<ul><li>An associate&rsquo;s degree or comparable experience</li><li>Strong collaborative and communication skills</li><li>Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills</li><li>A commitment to digital and multimedia storytelling</li><li>An organized self-starter who works well independently</li><li>Seek story ideas and work on multiple projects at once</li><li>Meet measurable goals as set forth by editor</li><li>Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and within flexible hours that may include nights, holidays and weekends</li></ul>Candidates will be asked to submit a portfolio of work upon request.Job Type: Full-timePay: From $16.00 per hourBenefits:<ul><li>401(k)</li><li>Dental insurance</li><li>Health insurance</li><li>Life insurance</li><li>Paid time off</li><li>Vision insurance</li></ul>Work Location: In person
