 A registered professional nurse who functions under the direction of the Manager of the Operating Room and is responsible for providing leadership and assistance in directing all activities/services for the Operating Room of the Hospital. Has shared responsibility for supporting and adhering to standards of practices, system and department policies and procedures, and ensuring quality patient care. The Koman Family Outpatient Pavilion is an outpatient clinical facility on UC San Diego Health's La Jolla campus. The facility includes eight surgery suites, basic and advanced imaging, physical therapy and pain management &mdash; plus infusion and apheresis services. The four-floor, 156,000-square-foot facility opened in March 2018.
Under the supervision of Perioperative Leadership (Nurse Director and/or Nurse Manager) the Nurse Coordinator performs daily administration of surgical scheduling, conflict checking, and staff assignments for specific surgical service line(s).
As the clinical expert in the surgical service line, the coordinator will perform active scrub nurse/direct patient care duties as needed to maintain skill set, serve as a role model, and develop new policy and procedures for the service line(s).
Daily work entails morning and afternoon rounds to preemptively manage issues. Develop work schedules as required for the specialty teams using established guidelines within the Periop program. Review daily OR schedules and changes of shift assignments, adjusts staffing needs to meet team and unit needs. Perform conflict checks for equipment, instruments, devices, and ancillary staffing requirements.
Long-term strategic planning and program development activities include: ensuring systems, procedures, and equipment/supplies are organized such that direct patient care activities achieve the highest level of quality/cost standards. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams (CC, ORSC, Anesthesiology, Surgical Teams, Surgical Pavilions, Strategic Sourcing, Biomedical Engineering, Data Administration, Facilities, Information Technology, Central Sterile Supply, Radiology) in order to proactively plan for department growth, on boarding of new surgeons, the addition of new procedures and technology.
Quality management and Process Improvement activities include: Development of, or participation in, departmental quality metrics and QA activities for specialty service line(s).
Education and training activities include: in services for new hires, mentoring and coaching of nurses cross covering service line(s); on boarding of new surgeons/residents/fellows to the service line; in services for new procedures, equipment or technologies used by the service line(s). Development of teaching/training materials for new procedures, equipment or technologies used by the service line(s).<div>

DEPT. SCOPE OF SERVICE:
Perioperative Services consists of the Operating Room (OR), Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU), Endoscopy, Minor Procedures and Sterile Processing Dept. Patients are cared for from 10 months until the end of life. General surgery, OB/GYN, orthopedic, urology, dental, ophthalmology, and podiatry are performed in the three rooms. Endoscopy is performed in the Endo suite or OR Rooms. Cesarean sections are performed in the Birthing Center operating room.
Perioperative Services is staffed by Registered Nurses, Surgical Technologists, Scheduler/Assistant Staffing Coordinators, Sterile Processing Technicians, LNA, Operating Room Assistant, OR &amp; ACU/ PACU Supervisors and a Director of Perioperative Services.
The OR provides care 24 hrs a day, each day of the year for patients aged ten months until the end of life. The OR&rsquo;s elective schedule is from 7:00am to 3:30pm. Care is coordinated between physician offices, the OR, Anesthesiology, and the Perioperative Director. Predictable starting times for surgery and admitting times for patients are established by the Director or designee.
The PACU has an area for the immediate preoperative care and reassessment of patients for surgery, for the admission and discharge of select ACU patients, and primarily, for the provision of intensive observation and care of patients following operative and special procedures.
Sterile Processing processes and decontaminates instruments and equipment for the OR and Nursing Units house wide.
The ACU, cares for surgical /medical patients, and providing pre and postoperative care and education services.
Pre Anesthesia Screening area is staffed by a RN&rsquo;s, Workflow Coordinator and Unit Secretary. Patients are interviewed prior to surgery, pre-op consults and test results reviewed and anesthesia guidelines followed to assure adequate patient assessment and preparation prior to surgery.
Requirements:

Education: High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
Experience: One year&rsquo;s clinical experience in accredited hospital with OR experience preferred.
