<p><b>POSITION OVERVIEW</b></p><p>The U.S. District Court Clerk&rsquo;s Office for the District of Minnesota is seeking a Court Reporter to office in Minneapolis, Minnesota with travel to Minneapolis, Duluth, Fergus Falls, and Bemidji as required.</p><p>The primary focus of the Court Reporter is to provide court reporting services to the Court. This position serves the Court en banc and can be called upon to cover court reporting of proceedings held before the Court, and for the transcription of those proceedings upon request.</p><p><b>REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES</b></p><p>&middot; Attend and record verbatim proceedings held before United States District and Magistrate Judges and transcribe those proceedings upon request. ABOUT THE POSITION</b></div><div>
Under general supervision, the Official Assignment Court Reporter, working on an intermittent basis, reports and transcribes verbatim stenographic record of official court proceedings. A stenographic record is defined as using the voice method or the machine method. The Official Assignment Court Reporter prepares and certifies transcripts, and, at the direction of the Court, reads the report aloud in court, in accordance with applicable code sections; and performs related tasks within the area of assignment.</div><div></div><div><br>
The Official Assignment Court Reporter is distinguished from an Official Court Reporter in that the classification provides additional courtroom support from time to time on an as-needed basis. Incumbents will be expected to gradually perform a broader range of duties with increasing responsibility and independence as experience is gained. An Official Assignment Court Reporter is expected to qualify for advancement to Official Court Reporter by the end of a fifty-two (52) week probationary period. There is no permanent status in the Official Assignment Court Reporter classification. Upon advancement to Official Court Reporter, incumbents are placed on a six (6) month promotional probation period.</div><div></div><div><i><br>
Duties for the classification may include, but are not limited to:</i></div><div></div><div><br>
1. <div><p><b>Judge Michelle L. Clark, who is chambered in the Douglas County Courthouse, Alexandria, Minnesota, seeks qualified candidates for a Court Reporter position, preferably Stenographic. </b>The ability to travel is a requirement for this position as the court reporter will occasionally work in other counties within the Seventh Judicial District.
</p><p>This position is responsible for the verbatim recording and transcription of testimony from judicial proceedings, hearings, and conferences, in compliance with all applicable statutes and court rules or as directed by the appointing authority. Additionally, the court reporter serves as the judicial officer's confidential assistant.
</p><p>Alexandria is a beautiful, vibrant community of approximately 15,000 located midway between Fargo and the Twin Cities along Interstate 94. </i></p><p>Graduation from high school or equivalent; <b>and </b>Graduation from a court reporting school approved by the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) within the past two years; <b>or </b>Compliance with one of the following: Received a Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) designation from the NCRA; <b>or </b>Received an equivalent certification from another state or territory of the United States, or professional court reporter association; <b>or </b>Have been practicing proficiently as a professional stenographic reporter for the past two (2) years and within one (1) month of hire, accurately take a minimum of 20 minutes of court proceedings alongside a stenographic court reporter who has an RPR designation or certification as provided in clauses (a) or (b), and then produce a transcript with 95% accuracy as described in (d) below; <b>or </b>Obtain RPR designation from the NCRA within two years of hire. Pending receipt of the RPR designation, must, within one (1) month of hire, accurately take a minimum of 20 minutes of court proceedings alongside a stenographic court reporter who has an RPR designation or certification as provided in clauses (a) or (b), and then produce a transcript. The participating RPR certified stenographer will determine that Ninety-five (95) percent accuracy is achieved to successfully complete this requirement.

Stenographic court reporters who do not meet requirements as noted above must become certified by the Minnesota Judicial Branch or the American Association of Electronic Reporters and Transcribers (AAERT) as an Electronic Court Reporter within three months of hire and take the record electronically until they are in compliance with a, b, c, or d above.
</p><p><b>Electronic Court Reporter </b>: <i>A person seeking employment with the Branch for the position of official electronic court reporter must meet the following minimum qualifications:
</i></p><p>Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the knowledge, abilities, and skills listed in the classification specification; <b>and </b>Compliance with one of the following within three months of hire:

The United States District Court for the Western District of Texas is seeking qualified applicants for the full-time position of Official Court Reporter in the Austin divisional office. An official court reporter is responsible for the verbatim reporting of proceedings held before United States District Judges and Magistrate Judges and for the transcription of those proceedings upon request. Occasional travel will be required as the Court is designated to preside in other locations throughout the Western District of Texas.</div></div><p></p>
<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Responsibilities</b></h2></div>
<p></p><div><ul><li>Attend and record verbatim court sessions for both civil and criminal proceedings; read back portions of court record as required.</li><li>
Provide transcripts within the time and cost limitations set by the Judicial Conference; electronically file with the Clerk of Court a copy of all transcripts prepared concurrently with delivery to the requesting parties.</li><li>
Provide transcripts and/or a Realtime feed to the Court upon request, without charge.</li><li>
Perform administrative duties as required, such as billing for transcripts, financial and other record keeping, preparation and filing of required Administrative Office reports, and responding to official correspondence and telephone calls.</li><li>
Maintain and safeguard records until they are disposed of according to statutory requirements and national and local policies.</li><li>
Adhere to the requirements of <i>The Guide to Judiciary Policy</i>, Volume VI, as well as the Court&rsquo;s local Court Reporter Management Plan.</li><li>
Perform other duties as assigned.</li></ul></div><p></p>

<p></p><div><div><b>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</b></div><ul><li>
Must possess a minimum of at least one (1) year of prime court reporting experience in a court, or in the freelance field of service or a combination thereof.</li><li>
Must have passed the Registered Professional Reporters (RPR) examination administered by the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) or passed an equivalent qualifying examination* such as the Certified Verbatim Reporter (CVR) administered by the National Verbatim Reporters Association (NVRA).</li><li>
Realtime court reporting proficiency, Realtime certification is <i>preferred.</i></li><li>
Must own or be willing to purchase, upon entry on duty, realtime court reporting equipment.</li><li>
Excellent organizational and communication skills to permit the production of transcripts within strict time limitations.</li><li>
Work well under pressure and be willing to work as part of a team of court reporters fulfilling the needs of all judicial officers of the Court.</li><li>
Must possess tact, good judgement, poise, initiative, and always maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.</li></ul><div></div><ul><li><br>
<i>Equivalent Qualifying Examination - Professional associations (other than the NCRA) and state license examinations may be acceptably equivalent to the NCRA testing, but the requirements for the examinations at the time of administration should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis as the requirements change from time-to-time.</i></li></ul><div></div><div><b><br>
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS</b></div><ul><li>
