College of the Environment Dean&rsquo;s Office has an outstanding opportunity for Marketing and Communications Specialist to join their team!
The Marketing and Communications Specialist is responsible for producing and managing the College's social media content and website content. This position also manages the proofing and approving of email newsletters across the College and produces College-wide digital newsletters, and will provide minimal support to the Advancement team as needed (e.g., supporting occasional events, etc.). This position is a key communicator and coordinator across multiple teams in the Dean&rsquo;s Office and across the College&rsquo;s many units. They must have strong editing and writing skills, interpersonal skills, the ability to move several tasks forward simultaneously, and the flexibility, creativity and customer service-oriented values to interact with the College&rsquo;s many audiences.
Duties &amp; Responsibilities:
Social Media (30%)
<ul><li>Manage the College&rsquo;s social media accounts, including the content calendar. Serve as the primary creator of social posts and lead strategist for how to effectively reach key audiences.
</li><li>Collaborate with social media managers across College and UW units to effectively share and amplify content across our channels.
</li><li>Use data, metrics and industry knowledge to make content recommendations to increase social media traffic and engagement.
</li></ul>Email Marketing (30%)
<ul><li>Review and approve digital newsletters produced by the College&rsquo;s unit partners and sent through the UW&rsquo;s email marketing platform.
</li><li>Assist with producing the College&rsquo;s newsletters, event invites and other email communications.
</li><li>Together with the Director of Marketing, explore best practices for email marketing tactics including personalization, audience segmentation, A/B testing, etc. Analyze email data and use insights to modify campaigns and strategies to enhance performance and engagement.
</li></ul>Web (30%)
<ul><li>Answer basic questions and requests from the customer support inbox.
</li><li>Proof and approve College website edits.
</li><li>Assist partner units to ensure consistently strong website content.
</li><li>Together with the Web Design Specialist, conduct training for unit web editors, ensure new web features work as they should through testing, conduct informal user testing, add and remove users from unit sites and help with bugs that don&rsquo;t require code fixes.
</li><li>Contact units to collaboratively update sites according to best practices.
</li><li>Format web content.
</li><li>Post relevant, external stories to the College website and ensure the homepage is refreshed with featured stories, calendar items and other key elements.
</li></ul>Coordination and Administration (5%)
<ul><li>Manage the Marketing and Communication team&rsquo;s general email inbox, routing messages as appropriate.
</li><li>Manage the College events calendar and work with units across UW to promote events.
</li><li>Respond to requests for information and develop correspondence as needed.
</li><li>Assist with orders and purchases.
</li><li>Help schedule team events.

Minimum Qualifications:
<ul><li>Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or other related field and at least two years of related work experience. Equivalent experience can substitute for degree requirement.

The Communications Specialist performs professional communications and digital media work in support of the Parks and Community Engagement (P.A.C.E.) Department. The Communications Specialist assists in coordinating, developing, and implementing a strategic communications and marketing plan. This role encompasses branding, media relations, crisis communication, website and social media management, all aspects of publication creation, and supervision of the Communications Assistant. 
Performance Responsibilities 
<ul><li>
Lead the production of Excelsior, the district&rsquo;s printed newsletter, by overseeing content creation, photography, interviewing, and distribution logistics.</li><li>
Strengthen the district&rsquo;s brand identity by designing and producing high-quality marketing materials, advertisements, and school publications.</li><li>
Partner with schools to surface and promote success stories, student achievements, and key district activities.</li><li>
Manage the weekly internal digital newsletter by contributing content, editing, and proofreading.</li><li>
Manage all social media presence and website updates, ensuring all digital content is in full compliance with digital accessibility (WCAG 2.0) standards.</li><li>
Develop and execute a comprehensive annual social media content calendar.</li><li>
Utilize data analytics to evaluate the performance of social media accounts, marketing campaigns, and website engagement.</li><li>
Liaise with internal departments and external partners to align communications with student achievement goals.</li><li>
Draft speeches, talking points, press releases, and media advisories.</li><li>
Act as the official district spokesperson and handle emergency communications, such as school closings, as required.</li><li>
Proofread and edit content created by other departments.</li><li>
Ensure all internal and external messaging is consistent, adheres to the district&rsquo;s brand standards, and represents KPS&rsquo; mission.</li><li>
Leverage graphic design expertise to create signs, flyers, banners, and promotional merchandise.</li><li>
Maintain media relations by managing contact lists, responding to media inquiries, coordinating interviews, and monitoring and analyzing media coverage.</li><li>
Assist with crisis management communication as needed.</li><li>
Organize and manage storage and accessibility of digital assets and publications.</li><li>
Provide communications-related professional development.</li><li>
Approve community flyers for distribution on Peachjar.</li><li>
Support special events, including opening day convocation, ribbon cutting and groundbreaking ceremonies, and the retirement dinner.</li><li>
Attend Board of Education meetings when needed.</li><li>
Attend community and school events in the evenings and on weekends to represent KPS and to take photos or videos.</li><li>
Supervise the Communications Assistant.</li><li>
Perform other duties as assigned.</li></ul> 
 Minimum Qualifications 
<ul><li>
Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in Journalism, Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, or related field.</li><li>
Minimum of three years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role.</li><li>
Evidence of excellent communication, including writing, editing, and proofreading skills.</li><li>
Demonstrated experience creating content and managing websites and social media platforms.</li><li>
Proven ability to successfully manage multiple projects concurrently.</li><li>
Flexibility to cover events during the evening and/or weekend.</li><li>
Ability to form collaborative work relationships.</li><li>
Proficient use of Google Suite and graphic design software.</li><li>
Evidence of a desirable work record (high accuracy, low absenteeism, flexibility, and good performance).</li><li>
Possess a high level of organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and effectively in stressful situations.</li><li>
Maintain integrity and an ethical approach to duties and responsibilities.</li></ul> 
 Desirable Qualifications 
<ul><li>
Accreditation in Public Relations (APR)</li><li>
Member of the Michigan School Public Relations Association (MSPRA)</li><li>
Member of the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA)</li><li>
School public relations experience.</li><li>
Knowledge of Kalamazoo Public Schools.</li></ul>
