Duties &amp; Responsibilities
<ul><li>Teach 15 credit hours each fall and spring semester, which may include day and evening courses.
</li><li>Teach lower-level (1000-2000) undergraduate mathematics courses, including but not limited to Survey of Mathematics, Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, Trigonometry, Introduction to Statistics, Calculus, Applied Linear Algebra, and Discrete Mathematics.
</li><li>Deliver well-prepared, organized, and clear lectures and activities tailored for both in-person and online formats, aiming to facilitate student mastery of the course learning outcomes.
</li><li>Develop and submit course syllabi for all assigned courses, ensuring inclusion of all required components and tailored to the instructional modality utilized (online or face-to-face).
</li><li>Collaborate with department members and the Division Chair to develop and revise curriculum, select textbooks and equipment, create instructional materials, and ensure cohesive and uniform student assessment practices.
</li><li>Establish and maintain an effective learning environment across assigned courses, adapting to diverse modalities including face-to-face, hybrid, asynchronous and synchronous online, as well as dual credit and Early College High School instruction contexts.
</li><li>Utilizing course assessment practices, assess and communicate student proficiency in achieving course learning outcomes. Document findings in formal assessment reports as directed by the Assessment Council and the Executive Vice President.
</li><li>Utilize technology, including but not limited to Canvas, Starfish, MS Office, and the Internet, for classroom instruction. Provide students with timely and accurate information and feedback regarding their academic progress, using assessments such as quizzes, tests, homework, and projects.
</li><li>Throughout each contracted academic semester, maintain a daily on-campus presence from Monday to Thursday and ensure a minimum of 5 in-person office hours per week to assist students with questions, tutoring, and instructional clarification.
</li><li>Assist with organizing and conducting advisory committee meetings.
</li><li>Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and understanding of all college policies and procedures.
</li><li>Perform all faculty responsibilities, encompassing teaching, faculty service, participation in in-services, evaluating student academic achievement, participating in professional development activities, and contributing to orientations, committees, councils, and other assigned duties.

<h1 class="jobSectionHeader">ROLE of the POSITION
</h1>The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track (NTT), Assistant Professor-in-Residence of Mathematics with a dual appointment in the Honors College (HC) and the Math Learning Center (MLC), which is part of the Department of Mathematics. At UNLV, the &ldquo;in-Residence&rdquo; label refers to teaching positions with a service component but no research requirement. This Faculty in Residence (FIR) role is 80% teaching (typically four classes a semester) and 20% service. We seek candidates whose teaching and service have prepared them to enhance our commitment to student development and math literacy in higher education. The position is promotable through traditional rank. It is not a visiting position. The successful candidate will be employed as both a member of the Honors College and the MLC, reporting to the Dean of the Honors College and the Director of the Math Learning Center in support of gateway mathematics instruction and related academic initiatives. The anticipated start date is August 2026.
We seek a Mathematics instructor primarily for first and second year math courses in both units and occasional upper division Honors seminar classes for the Honors College. The faculty member&rsquo;s main duties are to teach algebra, precalculus, calculus, and statistics to HC students and gateway students using technology relevant to classroom pedagogy. FIRs are required to perform all standard teaching
duties, including holding regularly scheduled office hours, and providing mid-semester and final semester grades and assessment data for the classes taught.
The successful candidate is also expected to mentor Honors College students, supervise Honors research thesis projects, collaborate with faculty and staff in both units, and participate in appropriate levels of service to the college, university, and community.
<h1 class="jobSectionHeader">PROFILE of the HONORS COLLEGE
</h1>The Honors College at UNLV is a small, selective college within the university that offers an exceptional undergraduate core experience for highly motivated students. The Honors College provides students with a liberal arts experience in addition to their academic majors. The combination of a central Honors intellectual core and specialized learning in a major discipline helps develop graduates who are fully prepared to succeed in graduate and professional schools and in rewarding careers.
The Honors College at UNLV currently has 10 faculty-in-residence specializing in a variety of disciplines and approximately 1,200 students.
