It operates under cyclic loads, tight sealing constraints, thermal gradients, structural dynamics, and grid-interactive performance requirements typical of commercial power generation equipment.

The Engineering Learning Center at the University of Michigan-Dearborn offers assistance to students in CECS courses and other academic success programs. Mechanical Engineering and Bioengineering (ME/BENG) tutors provide drop-in assistance to students in ME/BENG courses. Anticipated start date: August 24, 2026</p><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Responsibilities*</b></h2><p>
The ME/BENG tutor in the Engineering Learning Center will:</p><p><br>
Provide drop-in tutoring for lower-level ME/BENG courses in the ELC<br>
Assist in production of short video-tutorials related to topics tutored in coordination with ELC leadership, faculty and CECS Online<br>
Refer students to appropriate campus resources as needed<br>
Attend training sessions related to academic success and best practices in ME/BENG tutoring<br>
Promote the ELC at events<br>
Assist the ELC coordinator with projects and other administrative tasks</p><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Required Qualifications*</b></h2><ul><li>
Must be undergraduate students in CECS who have taken the courses they will tutor at UM-Dearborn.</li><li>
Applicants must be recommended by a faculty member who can attest to the applicant's ability to tutor ME/BENG material.</li><li>
Applicants must have completed ENGR 100, ENGR 216, ENGR 250,ME 230, ME 260 or 265 at UM-Dearborn with grades of B or better</li><li>
Must be able to communicate professionally and effectively with a wide range of students. Must be patient and flexible.</li></ul><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>

</b></h3><div><div><p>We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with expertise in battery safety, thermal management, and/or computational modeling. This position integrates rigorous experimental characterization with multiscale simulation to understand failure mechanisms and improve safety at the cell, module, and pack levels. The successful candidate will contribute to research on lithium-ion and next-generation batteries, with emphasis on thermal runaway, predictive diagnostics, and mitigation strategies. Candidates with strong backgrounds in either experimental battery safety or battery-focused simulation are encouraged to apply; applicants bridging both areas are especially welcome.</p><br>

Key Responsibilities:</p>
<ul><li>Design and perform experimental studies to evaluate the thermal stability, abuse tolerance, and safety limits of lithium-ion and next-generation batteries using ARC, DSC, overcharge, and mechanical abuse testing.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Develop and validate electrochemical-thermal-mechanical models to simulate battery behavior under normal operation and failure conditions, including thermal runaway initiation and propagation.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Analyze coupled failure mechanisms involving heat generation, gas evolution, internal shorting, and structural degradation, and connect them to cell- and pack-level safety performance.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Design model-based and data-driven frameworks for battery management systems, including health monitoring, early fault detection, and safety-oriented control algorithms.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Investigate thermal management, fire suppression, and propagation-mitigation strategies for safer battery module and pack design.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Prepare technical reports, manuscripts, and presentations; collaborate closely with interdisciplinary researchers; and mentor graduate students when needed.</li></ul><br>
