This position directs the Newsroom team and manages the Newsroom products and processes. Newsroom is a core function of the Church Communication Department and is charged with strategically planning, producing and helping tell the story of the Church, its leaders, and members, with an eye towards a worldwide audience. The medium is heavily influenced by digital-first products including video and includes social media platforms and channels. Newsroom includes the planning, coordination and dissemination of news of the Church globally, and responding to breaking news, major issues, media inquiries, stories and other broadcast programs. Some travel, including international, is associated with this position.</p></div>
<br><div><ul><li>(50%) Sets goals and direction in concert with the department and division in consultation with the Church Communication Department Leadership Council and maintains direction through constant monitoring, interaction, supervision, and initiatives. A special focus on accuracy, tone, and attention to detail is a must. This also includes healthy and appropriate scheduling of staff assignments, tasks, and responsibilities. This role will chair a Newsroom meeting at the start of each day to review overnight and breaking issues and carry selected items from that meeting to the daily media meeting (which includes community relations, area team, and social media representatives).

Media Relations, Senior Manager

<div><p><b>SUMMARY:</b> The Marketing and Public Relations Director provides coordination, supervision and execution of activities in the Marketing and Public Relations department. The job involves the management of all operations pertaining to marketing, media relations, advertising, fundraising, and internal and external communications. This position works closely and collaboratively with all other departments within Goodwill. Other areas of responsibility may be added in the future.</p><p><b>
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</b>: Include, but are not limited to the following as other duties may be assigned:</p><ul><li>
Promotes the general goals and objectives of the Heart of Texas Goodwill Industries.
</li><li>Create, implement, and provide continuous quality improvements for Goodwill&rsquo;s PR and community affairs.</li><li>
Responds to requests from the media or designate appropriate spokesperson or information source; writes interesting and effective press releases, prepares information for media kits, and develops and maintains the company&rsquo;s internet and intranet web pages to include social media postings.
</li><li>Identifies main client groups and audiences, determines the best way to communicate publicity information to them, and develops and implements an effective communication and public relations plans for Goodwill by using various marketing, communications, or public relations tools to educate those audiences about Goodwill's mission and programs.</li><li>
Confers with other managers to identify trends and key group interests and concerns or to provide advice on business decisions.
</li><li>Prepares and delivers speeches to further public relations objectives.
</li><li>Plans, manages, and coordinates events hosted by Goodwill.
</li><li>Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with representatives of the community, customers, employees, and public interest groups.
</li><li>Develops and maintains the company&rsquo;s corporate image and identity including the design of newsletters, news releases, advertising, brochures, pamphlets, radio/TV copy, newspaper articles, videotape, slides, signage, and other promotional materials.</li><li>
Maintains contact with area media to encourage the publication of Goodwill news and features, and with businesses, organizations, and individuals to assess community needs and promote Goodwill services.
</li><li>Manages Goodwill&rsquo;s voice messaging system (hold music, staff directory, &lsquo;on hold&rsquo; information, etc.).</li><li>
Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains staff.</li><li>
Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.</li><li>
Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.</li><li>
Other duties as assigned.</li></ul><p><b>
Qualification Requirements</b><b>:</b></p><p>
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must pass a drug screen. A criminal background check is required. A driver&rsquo;s license check is required. Must show proof of current driver&rsquo;s license and minimum auto liability insurance coverage.</p><p>

Education and/or Experience, Technical Skills:</b>
</p><p>Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in Journalism, Communication Arts, Public Relations, or Marketing; a minimum of three years&rsquo; experience in the practice of marketing and public relations; or an appropriate combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:</b></p><p>
Must maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record acceptable to Goodwill's liability insurance provider.
