Purpose:</b><br>
Assist physicians with various aspects of patient care (including clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks) ensuring patient satisfaction. In addition to core Medical Assistant responsibilities, serves as lead person for team regarding day-to-day workflow issues or office procedures.<br>

<b>Responsibilities:</b><br>
</p><ul><li><p>Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.</p></li><li><p>
Performs other duties as assigned.</p></li><li><p>
Answering calls and providing pertinent information including patient education as directed.</p></li><li><p>
Check schedules and organizing patient flow. Accompany patients to exam/procedure room. Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc. Collect patient information/history, taking vitals, performing screenings per provider guidelines. Relay instructions to patients/families.</p></li><li><p>
Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e., OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health). Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data. Comply with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.</p></li><li><p>
Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc. Complete forms/requisitions as needed. Schedule appointments. Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics. Prepare and managing charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately. Other front office responsibilities, as required.</p></li><li><p>
Perform phlebotomy, EKG's, and level one labs. Perform clinic procedures according to policy and procedure. Assist physicians with procedures. Document patient information into the medical record.</p></li><li><p>
Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol. Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control. Clean according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records. Manage inventory of supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms.</p></li><li><p>
Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance. Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations.</p></li><li><p>
Under the direction and supervision of a physician, administer injectable medication and vaccines when appropriate.</p></li></ul></div><div><ul><li>
High school diploma or equivalent is required.</li><li>
Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.<br>
<br>
<b>Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:</b><br>
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.<br>

Responsibilities:
<ul><li>Responsible for all duties included in the Medical Assistant job description.</li><li>
Takes inventory and performs ordering of supplies.</li><li>
Assists with coordinating staff meetings.</li><li>
Supervises work performed by department and may delegate work to staff members.Counsels and coaches the team by guiding, directing, motivating, and mediating conflict resolution.</li><li>
Assists with staff development, new employee orientation, and training. Monitors and ensures staff compliance with policies and procedures.</li><li>
May be responsible for performance evaluations as required by Human Resources.</li><li>
Responsible for managing the schedule, time keeping, and payroll if necessary.</li><li>
All other duties as assigned.</li></ul>
Qualifications:
<ul><li>High School diploma or GED and a graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant or Paramedic program required.</li><li>
Certified or Registered preferred but not necessary</li><li>
CPR Certification required</li><li>
A minimum of 2 years MA/CMA experience preferably in the medical field</li><li>
Experienced in staff roles with a history of good performance</li><li>

The compensation for this role includes a base pay range of $18.00-26.45 based on certification, with the actual pay determined by factors such as skills, experience, education, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. Additional compensation may be available through shift differentials, bonuses, and other incentives. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package.</div></div>
