</li></ul>Nuclear Medicine Technologist Job Responsibilities:
<ul><li>Explains procedures to patients and families and answers any questions to ease anxiety and ensure patient cooperation.
</li><li>Assists the physician in performing a variety of examinations by using standard department protocols, isolation precautions, and/or sterile techniques. Demonstrates proper technique for injection of radiopharmaceuticals under the American College of Radiology guidelines.
</li><li>Demonstrates the ability to recognize clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with exams while taking appropriate action to resolve them and produce the most desirable outcome.
</li><li>Correctly identifies patients and their files by utilizing electronic medical records and picture archiving/communication systems while ensuring a high degree of accuracy.
</li><li>Demonstrates the effective use of radiation protection procedures with shielding, collimation devices, and protective shielding per supervisor observation. Maintains exposure reading within the ALARA limits.

JOB SUMMARY
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist, under general supervision of a Radiologist, performs nuclear medicine procedures on ambulatory and hospital patients as requested by a physician or other licensed provider for the diagnosis of disease and injury in accordance with established protocols.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE<ul><li>
Performs high quality nuclear medicine procedures, according to exam protocol, in a timely manner. Maintains production and quality of imaging procedures by following established standards and procedures.</li><li>
Utilizes AIDET when communicating with patients to: identify patient service requirements, ensure correct exam is performed on the correct patient, and establish rapport with patients and others. Instructs and communicates with patients and their family regarding the test to be performed and assesses patient's ability to tolerate exam.</li><li>
Prepares patient and area for procedure by positioning patient, adjusting immobilization devices, moving equipment into specified position and adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors.</li><li>
Protects patients and employees by adhering to safety requirements, infection-control, drug and radiation policies, protocols and techniques. Uses proper sterile techniques when setting up and performing invasive multimodality procedures and maintains hand hygiene requirements.</li><li>
Maintains equipment and work area to meet quality and cleanliness standards. Works with engineers and physicists to ensure optimal operational capabilities of equipment. Reports issues to management or appropriate department. Assists in maintaining supplies inventory.</li><li>
Ensures people are safe to enter the department by screening them according to approved policies and procedures.</li><li>
Obtains, verifies and maintains all relevant documentation such as requisition/chart, patient history, pregnancy status and shielding precautions taken, consent forms, policies and procedures, etc.</li><li>

Maintains records in accordance with various regulatory agencies and enters patient and study information into the radiology information system, and documents billing codes of procedures performed to ensure accurate patient charges.</li><li>
Identifies equipment performance issues and performs equipment quality assurance tests and calibration procedures. Reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate staff and evaluates new products and equipment.</li><li>
Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.</li><li>
Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.</li></ul> 
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:<ul><li>
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) certification issued by the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT), or</li><li>
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) certification issued by the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) or</li><li>
Registered Technologist (RT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and</li><li>
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) registration and certification issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) needs to be obtained within 2 years, and</li><li>
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.</li></ul> 
Education Required:<ul><li>
Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Radiologic Technology.</li></ul> 
Experience Required:<ul><li>
No experience required.</li></ul> 
Knowledge, Skills &amp; Abilities Required:<ul><li>
Knowledge of cross sectional anatomy and magnetic safety.</li><li>
Competent in IV and venipuncture (if required by facility).</li><li>
Excellent communication, interpersonal and patient service skills to work effectively with physicians, patients and other staff members.</li><li>
Ability to work independently.</li><li>
Intermediate computer skills.</li><li>
Certification Addendum</li><li>
Team members will maintain annual educational requirements for hospital based certifications (e.g.DNV, CARF or others).</li></ul> 
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:<ul><li>
Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders frequently throughout the workday.</li><li>
Must be able to:</li><li><ul><li>lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.</li><li>lift up to 20 lbs. over the head.</li><li>carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.</li></ul></li><li>
Must be able to:</li><li><ul><li>push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.</li><li>perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.</li></ul></li><li>
May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation and magnetic hazards as well as blood and body fluids; therefore, personal protective equipment must be worn as necessary.</li><li>
Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.</li><li>
