The transportation aide is responsible for non-emergency medical transportation of elderly individuals to
routine doctor appointments, activities, or hospital admissions/discharges.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:<ul><li>
Oversee patient activities and does not leave patients unattended to ensure safety.</li><li>
Escort and remain with the patient during appointments as necessary.</li><li>
Adheres to safety regulations of facility as per policies and procedures and external regulatory.</li><li>
Complies with standard/universal precautions and infection control policies and attends required in-services to keep self-informed.</li><li>
Performs safety observation and fall protocol and one to one protocol as directed; assists at risk/physically challenged patients with mobility needs as needed.</li><li>
Communicates and documents patient observation and date effectively.</li><li>
Communicates with the administration to establish a schedule for picking up and dropping off patients in a timely manner; communicates with referral sources and patient families in appropriate manner while transporting patients.</li><li>
Maintains the on-call phone to be available to communicate with nursing and admission staff while transporting patients.; communicate patients not able to be picked up/absentees to nursing staff in a timely manner.</li><li>
Communicates follow-up on patient care responsibilities; incomplete assignments, ongoing activities and current patient needs that affect attendance.</li><li>
Perform safety checks and vehicle inspections as required.</li><li>
Practices safe driving and obeys all traffic laws and reports any incidents and accidents immediately.</li><li>
Performs other duties as assigned.</li></ul>
Requirements:
<ul><li>Must have a valid Driver&rsquo;s License with a clean driving record.</li><li>
Prior experience transporting patients/residents in a healthcare setting preferred.</li><li>
Must be able to interact positively with residents, families, and regulatory agencies, and work collaboratively with employees at all levels.</li><li>
Must be able to maintain consistent attendance and be willing to work long or irregular hours, often under pressure.</li></ul>
Physical Requirements:<ul><li>
Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and remove assistive devices as needed to clean equipment properly.</li><li>
Must comply with all local health regulations and successfully complete a post-offer health assessment.</li><li>
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.</li><li>
Physical and Sensory Requirements (with or without the use of mechanical devices):</li><li>
Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English to communicate effectively with residents, families, staff, and community agencies.</li><li>
Ability to perform physical activities such as walking, reaching, bending, stretching, pulling, and lifting.</li><li>
Adequate fine and gross motor coordination to carry out required tasks.</li></ul>
