The Pfeifer lab is a collaborative Research group within the School of Dentistry, Department of Biomaterial and Biomedical Sciences. The lab was established in 2011 and has been continuously supported by the NIH-National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, and others. We have a strong track record in the fields of Biomaterials and Polymer Chemistry, with over 150 publications and several full patents. Our focus is to develop materials solutions for use in healthcare applications (including oral) with a heavy emphasis at the interface with microbiology and host tissue interactions. We have been able to be successful in this quest thanks to a multi-disciplinary team of highly collaborative individuals, including materials scientists, clinicians, engineers, chemists and microbiologists. Dr. Carmem Pfeifer seeks an Assistant Staff Scientist with extensive knowledge of microbiology and materials science related methods to drive research projects to academic and translational goals. This person will contribute to scientific direction of numerous projects and share the management responsibilities for lab members working on those projects. Technical expertise in the area molecular biology and molecular design, as well as collaborative research approach are key to success in this role.</div>
Required Qualifications:
<ul><li>PhD in relevant field (Bioengineering, Biology, Biomaterials, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science)</li><li>
Doctoral degree in Biomedical Sciences or related fields and a minimum of 3 years of post-doctoral work experience in a research lab with a focus on material-tissue/biofilm interactions</li><li>

<div>The Research Associate position will independently design, collect, and analyze research data for several experimental projects investigating the origin of genetic coding and protein synthesis according to a coded template. One studies the translatomics of ribosome-free coded peptide bond formation. The other examines structure/function studies of reconstructed aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase cognate tRNA pair likely to resemble evolutionary intermediates in the evolution of the genetic code. An ideal candidate will have extensive experience and enthusiasm for molecular biology, preparative biochemistry, laboratory conditions for RNA biology, on the one hand, and enzymology and data analysis on the other hand. The selected candidate will be expected co-author papers as well as present results at meetings and conferences. The position will offer considerable independence and facilitate collaboration with multiple groups supported by the two funding sources.</div>

<div><p>The Theodorescu Lab within the University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC) is looking to hire a postdoctoral researcher with a strong background in cancer cell and immunobiology and the tumor microenvironment (TME). In addition to work in cancer cell and immunobiology, projects will also be inducing and characterizing induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) with emphasis on mechanisms of transformation orchestrated by genomic alterations found in cancer. The trainee will use techniques of biochemistry, molecular biology, and Crispr/Cas9 technologies, functional genomic approaches (loss of function/synthetic lethal), next generation sequencing including single cell RNA sequencing, together with the use of innovative mouse models we have developed. Examples of the type of work that will be undertaken by the trainee can be seen by our papers by Chen (Nature. 2025 Jun;642(8069):1041-1050), Abdel-Hafiz (Nature. 2023 Jul;619(7970):624-631), Gouin (Nature Commun. 2021; 12;12(1)), Agarwal (Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A. 2021 Sep 21;118(38):e2102423118) and Tu (Science Adv. 2019; 20;5(2)). Our final goal is to identify novel biomarkers and interventions for cancer that will improve patient outcomes.</p>

This individual would join a vibrant cancer research group. The successful candidate will be a driven, creative, team-oriented individual with a passion for helping discover fundamental cancer biology mechanisms with potential clinical impact, and who can eventually be moved towards clinical settings. We employ a range of in vitro and in vivo approaches and seek individuals with a strong background in cell and molecular biology.  The Blanchard Laboratory at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is seeking passionate and highly motivated individuals to join our team working on a funded NASA-supported research program investigating how spaceflight and environmental stressors influence the human brain and neurodegenerative disease risk. Researchers will work closely with members of the laboratory to engineer iPSC-derived vascular and multicellular 3D models of the human brain and apply these platforms to study mechanisms underlying Alzheimer&rsquo;s disease and related neurodegenerative disorders. These models are also being adapted for spaceflight experiments on the International Space Station, providing a unique opportunity to participate in cutting-edge work at the intersection of stem cell biology, neuroscience, and space medicine. The successful candidate will contribute to the generation and characterization of human stem cell&ndash;derived brain models and will assist with experimental workflows supporting both ground-based and spaceflight studies.

   Culturing and maintaining human iPSC lines and derived cell types
  </li>
  <li>
   Generating and maintaining 3D brain and vascular models
  </li>
  <li>
   Performing microscopy-based analysis and experimental assays
  </li>
  <li>
   Assisting with the design, execution, and analysis of experiments
  </li>
  <li>
   Preparing specialized culture media and reagents Maintaining inventories of stem cell reagents and laboratory supplies
  </li>
  <li>
   Managing cryopreserved cell line stocks stored in liquid nitrogen
  </li>
  <li>
   Supporting laboratory organization and experimental documentation This position works closely with the lab director, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students in a collaborative research environment.
