Role Overview:
As a Nonprofit Accountant, you&rsquo;ll take primary responsibility for the day-to-day financial operations of one or more clients. You&rsquo;ll be supported by our internal team and collaborate closely with client staff. Your work will help nonprofits manage their finances with confidence and clarity.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Working under the direction of the CFO, Staff Accountants support the organization&rsquo;s financial operations in all areas of the Finance Department including, but not limited to, general ledger activities, reconciliations, financial reporting, journal entries, month end close, daily cash, accounts payable, budget support and analyzing data. This position ensures accurate financial processing and timely reporting. This role is detail orientated, organized and experienced in nonprofit accounting organizations. The Y&rsquo;s environment is a team culture; this role will support all areas in the success of the organization&rsquo;s mission and its financial stability.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
<ul><li>Daily accounting activities required to maintain the association&rsquo;s general ledger</li></ul>
<ul><li>Bank account reconciliations and cash management</li></ul>
<ul><li>Prepare monthly journal entries</li></ul>
<ul><li>Share Accounts Payable Process</li></ul>
<ul><li>Monitoring of monthly grant activity</li></ul>
<ul><li>Account reconciliation&rsquo;s &ndash; including most balance sheet accounts</li></ul>
<ul><li>Assist in preparation of monthly and annual financial statements</li></ul>
<ul><li>Assist in annual audit preparation</li></ul>
<ul><li>Assist in the preparation of annual department budgets</li></ul>
<ul><li>Attend and participate in all mandatory staff meetings</li></ul>
<ul><li>Weekly software backup</li></ul>
<ul><li>Process quarterly state sales tax</li></ul>
<ul><li>Assists other association personnel in resolving complex accounting issues</li></ul>
<ul><li>Make and implement recommendations to improve accounting processes and procedures</li></ul>
<ul><li>Represent the association, build and maintain its relationship with other organizations in the community including local boards, committees, or groups</li></ul>
<ul><li>Maintain a strong commitment of the YMCA, its Mission and members</li></ul>
<ul><li>Other duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer</li></ul>
QUALIFICATIONS:
<ul><li>Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field strongly preferred, associate&rsquo;s degree required.</li></ul>
<ul><li>A minimum of 3-6years of experience in a finance department required, non-profit specific experience preferred.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products &ndash; specifically Excel</li></ul>
<ul><li>Strong attention to detail</li></ul>
<ul><li>Understands GAAP and the role it plays in finance</li></ul>
<ul><li>Basic knowledge of accounting software</li></ul>
<ul><li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills</li></ul>
